    This terrain looks really great. I have to try to make some rock formations like the ones you made here. I have a bunch of leftover packing foam from various boxes I can cut up and use.

    Excellent video and some really good tips. I often make my own terrain to save money so I can spend it on these items I'm not skilled enough to make myself. Focused spending and a thrifty mindset go a long way in this hobby.

      Excellent points! Some items are good to buy just because they are really difficult to make. But many things can be made with a little bit of time and skill. I am very thankful to have a great second hand store nearby where I can always find tons of great materials for dirt cheap that can be transformed into some pretty great terrain items. Thanks so much for the visit! All the best!

    Wow, the end product looks great!! I watched the snow battle mat video and it also has a good look to it.
    Whats the quick version of how you did this battle mat? Brown sheet, with browns first then greens?

    • @GrayArmyGaming
      @GrayArmyGaming  2 роки тому +4

      Exactly! I started with a brown sheet, then went to the dark browns, followed by the dark greens, and finishing off with the light greens/yellows. I tried to layer it so that the lightest parts were always those that were on the top. Hopefully that gives a bit more of a textured (even 3D) kind of feel. Thanks so much for the visit! All the best to you, and good luck in your mat making adventures!

    This map looks absolutely fantastic especially for that scale!
    I bought 2 yards of a medium brown thick felt cloth to make something similar, but I just couldn't seem to commit to how to paint it (mostly because I've never tried it before).
    Do you think you might make a video on how to make a battlemat similar to this? I watched your video with the winter mat you made, so I could probably muddle my way through it, but man alive this looks almost exactly what I was hoping to make! I'm not sure if I'd make any changes for the scale of Battletech (I'm trying to get a campaign going), but even if it looked just like this it would be amazing.
    I even had a hex stencil made so thay I could also paint some minimalistic hex corners onto it as well, and I'm really hoping to get this campaign off the ground in the new year.
    Regardless, great video, thank you!

    • @GrayArmyGaming
      @GrayArmyGaming  Рік тому +2

      Wow! That is a fantastic idea with the hex stencil! I could imagine a quick one-over with some spray paint to get a slight shadow of the hexes could work great! Nice! I have had a couple of other people ask me about making a video about the earthen mat featured in this video, so I think I will have to do that! I use a lot of the same techniques as with the winter mat, but with a few small changes. I will definitely throw the idea into my list of videos to get to after Christmas. Have a great time with Battletech! This mat will be perfect for you! Kindest regards!

      Oh, man! Terrible conversion rate, and terrible jacking of prices for you guys down south! That really stinks! At least the free stuff (rocks, pebbles, sand, styrofoam from the trash, discarded foam seat cushions) costs the same!
      On a side note, I just saw a video about how Games Workshop is charging Australians something like over 500 AUD for a Space Marine statue that costs around 300 USD (still way over-priced!). How do you guys put up with such price gouging?!
      Thanks for stopping by the channel! All the best to you as you try to find the cheapest options possible for your terrain construction!

      @@GrayArmyGaming Honoured by the reply mate.
      We call it the "Australia Tax". First, the exchange rate, then postage and import fees, add GST, and finally some rottenness that gets lumped on top of it all that I'm sure an economists can explain and Aussies just seem to accept.
      Thanks for the video mate. Recently found your channel. Great content.
