- Hi all, Welcome to my video on breeding Pandas. Minecraft Pandas have 2 genes. The main gene and a hidden gene. The main gene is known by looking at the panda (normal, weak, etc). The hidden gene can only be found by breeding or using an NBT editor (not available on xbox one) And you need to know what the hidden gene is if you want to get a certain personality type when breeding.
Discovering the genes by breeding can be very time consuming and you may never really know what they are for both parents.
I show an **easy method to clearly find out. This method removes ambiguity and clearly lets you know the traits of your pandas.
Please take a look at the Minecraft wiki to see the details about the various personality traits of pandas.

Although I don't mention this in the video. The easiest way to do this is to save a copy of your map. Open the copy in creative mode, then spawn in a brown panda - do your testing, then record the results in your survival world. That saves you from having to find a brown panda in the wild. There are reccesive and dominant genes, recessive being brown and weak, if a recessive gene is the main one and a dominant one is the hidden one, it would appear normal
This is basically how Gregor Mendel started
if you consider just the weak trait and brown trait, then its like incomplete dominance, the F1 generation has a normal phenotype, but a genotype of brown and weak when weak and brown pandas pure breed. then there is a 1:2:1 ratio of phenotypes and genotypes for the F2 generation, 1 brown : 2 normal: 1 weak, with the normal children of F2 having the weak and brown allele which cancel each other out to make the panda have a normal phenotype

yes that would be 25% chance of heterozygotes having a homozygous recessive offspring
It could have ben a mutation. I read somewhere there is a small chance of a mutation where the baby gets a random gene. so you could have all normal/normal and still end up with an aggressive through breeding at some point, for example.
Since the time I did this video it seems that the breeding has changed a bit. I agree that there seems to now be a bit of randomness involved.
On my survival I tried to find a jungle but my world didn’t have a jungle but thanks anyway!
What is your platform? My first Minecraft was on xbox 360 and I had the same issue. No jungle. I even had an experienced friend come over and look at my trees. He finally told me that there were no jungle trees anywhere on my map. That is what I like about the xbox one and now even bedrock. The unlimited maps are nice for that reason.

It’s just a rare panda
So if I breed two Norm/norm and the babies are born normal and I breed them with another one of the norm/norms children will the only outcome
I get is norm norm ? Cause I’ve bred these two like 7 times and all of them just produce normal children
well then that must mean that the main gene and hidden gene is normal, so they can only pass on a normal allele to their children
consider the normal allele as N, all parents have a NN genotype, they pass on the N allele, each of the children are therefore all N.
Lovely video mate. Found a brown panda (on my 6th or 7th in-game day of searching) and to my luck, all but one of my pandas have brown genes! I’m very happy. Thank you!
if your assumption is true you could get brown pandas almost every time you bereed two brown pandas together right?
Should be able to, but the last time I tried this results seemed pretty random. Not sure if they may have changed things...

Only the brown baby panda is the rarest.
What's a pain is that if the dominant gene is brown, it doesn't matter what the other gene is, it will look like a normal panda

How do u get brown pandas?
Question: does it take a normal panda to mate with either: lazy,worried,aggressive,playful,weak to get a brown? I’m just curious on how to breed a brown panda WITHOUT one parent being a brown or both being brown.. anyone discover? ;-;
Aqua Panda originally it was supposed to take 2 naturally spawned brown pandas to breed and get another brown panda. However, in 1.9 release we got 5 different types, including brown from one pair of normal pandas. So, I don’t know if breeding is broken or if they just made it entirely random.

Retro_Rain you must have them very close to a lot of bamboo. I don’t know the quantity, but that is why I have a lot near my panda’s
@@poorjimbo7121 they are not near alot of bamboo but I can also not tame them. Idk if its a glitch on bedrock edition ps4 (we have many glitches do to microsoft not caring)
Retro_Rain you need to have at least 8 bamboo within a 5 block radius of the pandas to breed. Try putting more bamboo

why do I get a normal/weak panda when I breed two brown panda's together? I've never gotten a brown from breeding two brown pandas. Can you try to figure this out in another video?? Thanks!
I can confirm, my two brown pandas had a brown baby... I guess the % is low tho.. I'm about to start experimenting to see if I can get weak weak...

It seems to me that something has changed with the breeding since I did this video. Not certain, but it all seems somewhat random now.

Yes, it seems to me that the breeding has changed since this video was made. We took a pair and got every type of panda out of them. So it seems the wiki is wrong with the later updates.
I got the all the adult pandas not the what the babies I didn't care one we didn't get a brown panda
