Joroussky's performance is perfection. I watched this live streamed from France and was stunned by the beauty of this production and the quality of musicmaking and the "life" Bill Christie brought to this rarely performed gem. The DVD was set for March, then April, now a May release. Let's hope it really arrives in stores next month. This is as good as it gets!

    DVD: SPRING 2008
Good news! "Les Artes Florissants" sent me this message: "Alessio" comes on a DVD during spring 2008, by Virgin Classics!
NB! If you want to compensate for its static scenery - the only NOT perfect aspect (unlike singing & costumes) - see the 2003-reprint "Il S. Alessio" by Arnaldo Forni Ed. Admire the 8 marvellous large 1634-engravings of the illusionistic, variated scenes made for the opera by Pietro da Cortona.

    "ALESSIO"-DVD RELEASE: MARCH 17
It's now available for pre-order on Amazon GB (region 2).
Hopefully, Christie and Jaroussky will secure this unique historical avantgarde piece enough commercial success to encourage future projects.
Thanks to the Barberinis for sponsoring its publication (1634), thereby saving it through a time when few operas outlasted the events they were made for, and to "Les Arts Florissants" and collaborators for their respectful musical and theatrical recreation.

She's done it again! Nina, you just keep on rocking, don't you? ^_^
Does the way those boys are leaning on the banister remind anyone else of the cherubs from Raphael's Sistine Madonna, or am I seeing things?
