The Philippine government claims jeepneys need to go because they are old, dirty and unsafe. But President Rodrigo Duterte’s crackdown on the top form of transport in the country has been criticised as ‘bogus and big business modernisation’
Jeepney is considered as national heritage, Philippine icon, and the symbol of our culture. Absolutely unfair and unreasonable to phase out the jeepney.
I'm so proud I own one.
A 1977, 6 seater Francisco jeepney.
Fully restored, roadworthy, low emission, and modified as well.
We need to phase it out. It’s no fun smelling like petroleum going into work. Jeepneys are still okay in rural areas. In cities, we need more trains, city buses, and subway.
@@vexcarius7100 cars contain 4x less people and are in bigger amounts and smaller sizes... I feel like you may need to focus on that before messing with Jeeps. Tho E-Jeeps are a thing too
@@lancetheking7524 But Cars actually expire unlike these jeepneys that may be over 30+ years old. There's a reason why Cars don't belch out black smoke like Jeepneys do.
@@Sabalas well simply allow it to... yk... not last for 15 years and have it replaced during then, or the "proper" time, and again, E-Jeeps
@@vexcarius7100 So you want subways in cities that are earthquake and flood zones? You also used some phrases that make me think you are not even Filipino, but a Euro .
Jeepneys are iconic in the country
Just Modernize the engines
But keep the designs

I agree..
Yes. Please."
Imagine electric jeepneys
That still have colorful designs
There is also converting them to electric just use lithium ion battery.
How long have you been driving?
ahh almost 30 minutes!.
Bwahahahahaha Classic
Maybe what he meand is how long is he on road that day
Yeah the question is very broad though
I visited the Philippines once with my girlfriend who was from there. They didn't have anything as cool as these. Beautiful place!❤️ NO CHINA CARS
There are a lot of Chinese cars in the Philippines

Modernize jeepneys! Clean engines, limit seating and do not allow "sabit" to avoid accidents.
i love "sabit" para di makaamoy ng anghit hahaha
Modern jeppneys are a buss not jeppneys!
sounds ur cringer..borring nmn kung walang sabit ok sbhin kahit 3 persons only..its tradition na kc un ok
The engine should be modernized but the looks should be the same. I always rode in the jeepney when I go to school. It has music And I love it.
Right
Jeepneys are Iconic in the country
And yes the engines should be modernize but the design is timeless keep it.
Right.! Thats why the new Jeep Wrangers' are named UNLIMITED.."
Iloilo jeepneys has been modernized since the 70's. You people in Manila are stuck with the Pollution.
Jeepneys are ICONS of Manila.
Keep them and replace the engines & exhaust systems.
Right
Jeepneys are iconic in the philippines.
Just modernize the engines are its ok.
I agree..
Bruh check out Jeepney in Iloilo City. We are ahead of you 3 decades ago.
jeepneys should be modernized also
Modernize the machinery, not the looks!

The 30 minutes made me laught to death 😂😂😂😂
I'm an American and I think that the Jeepney is iconic to the Philippines and should be treasured.
Build a museum.
No, it's just like the 1920s cars. We want it extinct.
@@Red-tag77 nobody wants 1920s cars extinct
@@garymorris7472 We don't want them being used as public transportation.
Just replace the engine and rehabilitate the body thats all if the government want a modernize the transport just gradual instead of mandatory
Jeepneys has been there for decades. And its Only in the Phillipines ..Cant find this in any other parts of the world.🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭☺
Most filipinos have not been in other countries. That's why they don't know anything better than this "jeepney". It's not their fault, inasmuch as it is their government's, who for centuries did not improve the system. No foreigners visiting the Philippines in their right mind would rely on this jeepney to move around the country. This is different in other countries, where foreign tourists take the public system together with the local people.
But the jeepney is an icon of the country. Its Iconic
It's really funny when you say Filipinos haven't been to other countries
when there's a lot of Filipino overseas. The government wants to replace
really old Jeepneys like 20 to 30 years old., in favor of New Models like
Electrical or Biogas, or newer engines, etc. I still hope they keep the Iconic look.
Filipinos know many cars bruh research before typing!
Cool and interesting video my favorite part was the interviews and seeing the illustrator's amazing artwork on the Jeepneys!
Well I agree that jeepney is really contributing to pollution but I'm against on completely changing everything on what jeepney is, Jeepney is our culture and it's an iconic unique vehicle in Philippines so why should we removed it? You just have to change the engine of the jeep and replace it with modern one's and you can modify the jeep to have airbags and better engineering while not ruing the whole thing
The Jeepney is iconic and unique in identity to the Philippines. Sadly the government left the industry hugely unregulated so instead of helping the drivers means of living and at the same time finding ways to manage the traffic congestion the opposite happened. Too many jeepneys plyin narrow thorough fares, declining unreliable income, and horrific traffic congestion so sad when proper planning should have been done from the beginning. Would be sad to lose this truly Made in the Philippines means of transportation
Love from India to Philippines
Did you know that we also used a lot of motorcycles from India here in Philippines? That thing where you can have at least 5 passengers

Glad you put Prov. 11:17 in the end.
And that is after I waste my time searching for it, and I'm not even a Christian! but I do like reading (quotes from) other holy book other than my own religion's though
maybe just make the engines better, that'll work
Someone should make a Philippine Jeepney Simulator, these are just cool.
yes yes yes yes I'll be the one who will make it (it will be available in android and ios) and
I love how they don’t seem concerned about infringing copyright trademarks in the artwork. Beautiful machines.
jeepney: we are the king of the road!
government: order 66
you answered the question you ask about proverbs 11:17 at the end. I like it
engines are the only problem with Philippine Jeepneys.
Instead of minibuses, change the features while keeping the iconic design or facelift it like a Jeep Wrangler or Hummer
They also made HUMMER replicas in Cavite. Made from Nissan Patrol or Hyundai parts. Also with airconditioning.
Like India have Mahindra Bolero jeeps in India aka Mahindra enforcer in PH.
That's an obsolete vehicle. We want that to be phased out. It can be displayed in museums anyway.
Who is 'we'?
@@blastermaster5039 The majority of Filipinos.

You mean the farmers that deliver their rice produce inside jeepneys?
You mean the fishermen who sold their catch to middlemen who then use thekr jeepneys to deliver the catch to market?
How about plantation owners who deliver tons of coconuts in the back of jeeps?
What about bakers who delivers their freshly baked goods to bakeries to feed the masses?
Or are you just talking about office types here being the """majority"" of the Filipinos?
@@blastermaster5039 Those are the places where that Jurassic jeepneys should be dumped. In the provinces that lack public transportation.
Why not make the Old jeepneys change their engines to more cleaner ones?
No, dont get rid off jeepneys just modify them.
These jeepneys are 20-30yrs old, they just upgrade/modify the look. And the driver will drive whilst asking for fare, giving back change and being attentive to the road it's passengers.
Also, everyone speaks English.
Just modernise the engines, but keep the design, they look cool out on the road hehe. Besides they provide many jobs and convenient transport services.

Sorry not sorry but we want SARAO JEEPNEY MADE IN PHILIPPINES ONLY NOT MADE IN CHIN/\
Don't worry all jeepney drivers are receiving money from the govt during quarantine period. And lots of relief goods too. That should be in the news. Unlike in other countries. Only Philippine govt gives money to its citizens during the pandemic!

We called it "king of the road" 👑😎
As iconic as it is, and as fun as it looks, they are a hindrance to modernisation. They need an affordable, clean, and organized public transport system, as well as better infrastructure. The Philippines is a fantastic place. There's so much talent, grit, and resilience, but they lack real leadership and long-term planning. What's horrible to see is how they treat their OFWs - their families and the government treat them like cash cows, milking them for every penny, while so little is being done to improve conditions and general quality of life. Meanwhile, they let POGOS operate without proper taxation and lenient enforcement. The Philippines will never truly be their own country until they learn how to value their citizens.
Lol POGOS are paying millions when PRRD asked them to do so.

time to end the jeepneys to stop heavy traffic and start focusing on trains and subways 🤷🏻♂
That's what the government is trying to do as seen in the video. Again?
how about just stop the poors from breeding
It's not jeepenys fault that heavy traffic in manila occurs.. it's the individual that keeps loaning cars with and also people from the province travels in manila to buy stufds they can't buy in province. Jeepeneys has been in the road for a long time before even these new car models rolls in these roads..
So we're going to forget about Corona 😬?
Each jeepneys is a piece of art.
1:37 funniest part they need the engine to replace not the look
Let us not be economically colonized by other countries more. Let's leave a little for ourselves as we can see that our country had been economically colonized as ever by other countries. The Jeepney is the stronghold of our true FREEDOM from all form of colonization. Nowadays wars are just an old fashion way of colonization. Economic colonization is the trend in millennial era isn't? We can see how powerful rich influential countries colonized small countries, ambitious countries through development of economy by partnership etc...
