This is exactly the review I was looking for. I looked up the best headlamps and coast Portland came up. You just never know what is BS and what’s legit.
So here’s the thing I’ve used cost for a couple of years came across them randomly add a big box store appear in Canada knew nothing about them fell in love with them use them for a couple years then they reached out to me and sent some free stuff. This one was one of the ones they sent to me for free but I love it.
I think this is the most quality, it's really heavy duty and it'll definitely get the job done for years to come for certain. I've had a 2010 model for 12 years and it's still my prized lighting piece of equipment
Do any lithium batteries besides coast brand fit in there? 21700?
So from what I can find they are just a rebranded 18650 i belive but I found this on coasts website
“We do not recommend using 18650 batteries in our products. This has not been tested and can cause damage to the light that would not be covered under our warranty.”
From what I see on google the 34r uses a 21700 and the 30r uses an 18650. I'm deciding between the two now because I have samsung 21700s and a charger already

No lockout feature or easy way to get to the low setting.
I like to have a super high and high sitting but my main use is going to be with the low setting to extend duration and I don't want to have to cycle three different settings just to get to the low setting. Plus the lack of a lockout feature for $100 headlamp These are two red flags because Coast is making too many different models and trying to force people to buy multiple models to get what they desire. I will say I do have a couple coast headlamps that I do enjoy using but I'm looking for a features that are not offered in their line at present. It seems like they're shooting theirselves in the foot by trying to add certain features to one and not the other and fool people instead of just providing a complete package first of all you need to have a programmable button so you can program it to whichever setting you want for quick press To low setting or quick press to high depending on situation.
If they would have had a lockout feature and made the off and on button at least programmable by long press or double click to one setting - where the setting is selected (or programmed) by the user - I would buy multiple.

@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP so far so good, I had a Coast back in 2010 lol and finally decided to up grade, it was 12 yrs old lol I'm enjoying the rechargeable feature as well as the 2000 lumens I think this is the most awesome thing on Earth at this very moment the weight not so bad honestly the magnetic feature amazing Coast makes I think the best headlamps on the headlamp market at the very moment and I think it's been that way for the past 12 years from when I first got my first Coast. I haven't gotten a chance to run the battery all the way down rechargeable, but based off of the run times wats written on the package, I think I'll be extremely satisfied with the performance of this headlamp
