I heard Johnston talk to Bolke about this test on Ballistic Radio and had a thought. What about the Super Duper Test!? Set up the same B-8 targets with one at 5, 10, and 15 yards with a couple of yards of distance in between the targets from the shooters perspective. Shoot the same course of fire but allow 2 seconds for reloads (maybe more for revolvers) between each target and shoot them all consecutively. It brings in all the fundamentals of the Super Test (stance, grip, enough sight alignment, enough trigger control, recoil management) with transitions and reloads thrown in. I'm sure I'm not the first one to think of this but that sounds pretty hard to me! Can't wait to try it.

The Pocket Pro 2 is probably the most popular one and it's pretty good. I have a CED 7000 and I like it because it's small enough to fit in my pocket (instead of clipped to my pocket or belt) but it has to be recharged often and doesn't take regular batteries.

If the hole breaks the line, you get credit for the higher scoring ring. But it has to be the actual hole, not just the tears in the paper. If there's any doubt, you can stick a cartridge in the middle of the hole and see if it really does touch the line, but I tend to err on the side of not giving myself more credit than I deserve for any questionable hits.

Tried to go when no one else would be there and made sure all my rounds stayed on paper (and not the target stands or launched over the berm). Nobody ever said anything... YMMV.
Indoor ranges where they yell at you for rapid fire even if your shots are all on paper probably have ceilings full of holes and lanes full of people who put holes in ceilings. I drive past several such places to get to an outdoor range where I get my own bay and I can do holster work, shoot steel targets, and do faster shooting drills.

I hope this is not a test for defending ones life. There is no movement to get off the X and no 360 degree checks. Now if its just marksmanship, then its fine.
It is a test of basic marksmanship. One of the guys who came up with it used variations of it to train and test members of his SWAT team. He noticed a very high correlation between guys who could perform well on tests like this and guys who could perform well in actual shootings. So no, it's not a very flashy drill, but it turns out basic marksmanship is pretty important when it comes to shooting bad people.

A super dooper pooper scooper test would have the target fire back at you if you’re inaccurate or too slow.
