I found this very interesting. I'm part Choctaw. I knew my great-grandmother who was born on a reservation. She passed when I was 15 and had much she gave me in lore. I wish I knew more about the other nations. Thank you for this great presentation.

Sweat Lode ceremony.... 3 day fasting before hand..... Limit ur food to one small meal at night with water... Focus on communication with ur ancestors....pay attention to ur dreams ...once in the lode, mediate focus on ur breath and ur power/ chakras... From ur root to ur crown.... It's going to be hot.... If it gets to hot rub mud in ur nostrils and face/ body.... Dig a small hole and put ur face into it... Our native American culture/ beliefs and way of life goes all the way back to the creation of our existence..... Inside the sweat Lode we are in the womb of Mother Earth once done we are recreated/ reborn coming outta the lode/ womb covered in mud which we all where made from.....

thunder .. Thunder .. THUNDERBIRDS HO!
I really love the positive message you brought with this.
My Grandfather was full Blackfoot. I'm a mutt. But he gave me my Blackfoot name, a feather and a drum .. and beautiful stories like this, in his deep, thick accent that just conveyed so much wisdom. Thanks for bring back some beautiful memories my friend. ☮

Amazing thank you for saying that. I wanted to take a little more care with this one. With all the research I learnt more than just the myths, but also about the history of the indigenous tribes. I have a new found respect and appreciation for so much that has been lost. Thanks for watching and sharing my friend. ☮️

Excellent video. One thing you mentioned that a lot of people don't realize is how many nations there once was in this country. I am 63 years old and grew up hearing the stories of the Cherokees. My favorites were of the Tsuli Kalu (Sasquatch), the Nunnehi (Little People) and the Tlanuwa (the Thunderbird). Even though our stories were different from those of other native peoples or nations, there were still a lot of things in common.

Thank John, sir. I am relatively new to these stories, but I’ve found both the stories and the people fascinating. I’ll definitely be learning as much as I can and hope I can do future videos justice.

I'm from Illinois we have piasa bird. Which the native Cahokia ppl said to be sacrificed to it. Until it started to taking people that were not offered . So they planned an attack during the NXT sacrifice and shot it with arrows until it fell in the Mississippi River and was never seen again

That variation was made up by white people. The Algnonquian concept of Thunderbirds is markedly different from other Native cultures, as they present these shapeshifting beings who are so powerful, they fear accidentally hurting humans, and thus hide away from them in secret villages up in the mountains.

From what I understand of Thunderbird mythology, if a Thunderbird has picked up a whale and thrown it onto the land (or on the side of a mountain), it means the Thunderbird is punishing the whale for eating too many fish and disrupting the ecosystem (and not leaving any for the local tribe(s) to fish for).

I'm muslim and I think they are angels. I heard some other Native American stories about thunder birds and a lot of it aligned with how angel Gabriel/Jibril is described in Islam. seems like Native Americans maybe encountered Angel Gabriel at certain points. Also, In Islam we believe there was about 100k or more prophets sent throughout history by God to guide the people. Im wondering if anyone knows of any stories that might be of real prophets in the ancient Americas. Good video btw 😁

Was it real; there were many large birds, even large things that flew or glided in the air, as many stories its possible this is a story of only an echo what our ancestors saw, positive and negative interactions with these things. These stories overlook the ones about interactions between large birds and large snakes of swamps in Northern Illinois

American Centric surprises me always as I'm Indigenous From British Columbia in CANADA Many of our Costal Nations have different narratives about the Thunderbird as do all the People's of the Canadian Arctic including I believe Alaska. Also forgotten completely is the Indegionus Cultures of Central and South America. I have always loved your videos but this one with its limited scope needs a redo. In my humble opinion

I am full Cherokee and was raised with mostly other Cherokees for friends and neighbors. My maternal grand parents could hardly even speak English. I know my ancestors were not from India and that it was a mistake made centuries ago that led to us being called Indians. However; neither I nor anyone I know has any issue with being called Indian. My grandparents on either side could probably not have even found India on a map, but either of them would have been ready to fight if you had even suggested they were not Indian. If it bothers some people that is fine they are intitled to their opinions. I have come to accept the fact that we now live in a society where people are offended by pancake syrup.
