Emily call a plumber or watch a different video. The shower arm comes out and there is a mount with a screw that anchors the elbow (that the shower arm threads into) to a 2x4 that is behind the pipe. This moron's hack will cause you more expense when you finally have to call a plumber.
For anyone still wondering, what happens if the arm needed to be replaced. The tiles would also require replacing as the pipe runs directly behind the tiles. This makes it redundant whether this puddy is hardened to it or you leave the pipe wobbly.
Thank You for helping me fix this problem. My shower head was 10x worse than yours and every time I got in the shower I just want to rip the wall down and fix the damn thing. This is brilliant so easy. Thanks again
Thanks for posting this. I had a shower arm with a screw that completely came out of the stud. The opening was large enough for me to try to install a new, longer screw, but I was unsuccessful doing that. Bought a tube of WaterWeld and filled the drywall cavity. Had to use the entire tube. I had an issue with it setting the first time. I held the showerhead up in place for about an hour while it was setting to no avail. I disconnected my showerhead which was a pretty heavy rain shower head. Was able to get a decent amount of the putty back out and re-kneaded it, and installed it again without the weight of the showerhead. It set this time and I reinstalled the showerhead and the wobble is now gone.
It should work good for that as well. Just make sure there is no bigger issue in the wall. You can see or hear water in there. Sometimes they just don’t secure things good.
Sometimes they nail that in the back plate. Just make sure it is not a plumbing issue that will leak and hook it up. I’ve done this several times. Works well and can be removed.
That Fix It Guy it is. I think I know how to fix it, just a matter of planning the fix for a Saturday. The shower handle isn’t marked with a brand, so finding the right replacement washers might require some sleuthing
Jeeze, here I am thinking I need to tear out the wall on the other side and strap down the pipe, when I can just fill the gap with some JB weld. So easy thank you so much!!
@@ThatFixItGuy Just ordered it on amazon. Hey in a few months I'll add contractors to our app called SMART you should download it and check for updates I have a big one coming up soon. apps.apple.com/app/id1521331431 play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.realityapp
Thank you very much for making this video. My shower had exactly the same problem, I immediately went to the store and bought the water weld, my opening was a little bigger so I had to use the whole roll. It’s been a few hours and it’s perfect. I hope it lasts forever. Will it??? Thank you very much again.
That epoxy putty is awesome. I have used one brand or another for a long time. Helps for things like this or in a pinch when you have no parts to repair a pin hole.
“Where’s he going…NOWHERE, he ain’t going NOWHERE.” In all honesty, thanks for a quick video on this solution. My wife asked me to look into this very thing in our shower and first video I clicked on.
I'm assuming you have to scrape off all the old putty before inserting the new putty 🤔 as most of my old putty is still in place except immediately around the pipe itself.
Wow… I’ve ran away from this problem in at least two-three places I have rented. I assumed it was more of a professional job than my DIY tactics. Question, yours didn’t have much “play” from the wall. Maybe an inch or two? Mine has so much that it will pull out about a foot. Can I still use your solution with that much movement
My issue isn't this, but it has to do with a Delta shower wand and the ball and socket connector that it attaches to not staying in place. The ball and socket won't tight enough to prevent the weight of the wand from rotating downward in the plastic ball and socket. This a brand new shower wand. Ever come across this? Any ideas?
I have one right now that keeps loosening the whole shower head when you try to move the ball. I would contact delta or take it back and exchange it. Could very well be a defect.
That much movement makes me think the arm broken off some inside the nibble...or very close to breaking all way off! Need check for water leak inside the wall!
I have not had a issue with removing water weld. it is hard but not metal. Place it to where it is not touching tile, but only the backer board or green board behind the tile. That will make it easier.
Yep. get a tube of clear water clean up caulk. Just put some right around the edge. Wipe with your finger till it looks pretty won’t take much to hold that.
Would this work for an extremely loose shower head arm? I have a shower head arm in the house that I’m purchasing, that has A LOT of wiggle in it. I really don’t want to cut open the wall to secure the piping. Thanks in advance for your reply.
Is the nipple the arm threaded into secured or the arm broke inside the threads and stopping the "wiggle" still dont fix the problem! Actually it jt cahse ya not see the leak at the elbow!
Trying to put in new shower arm and the pipe goes back and forth and wobbles all around inside the wall. I live in a trailer and am so worried it will leak. Any tips ?
If it is side to side and back and forth movements it should not. Do you know what kind of pipe it is? If cpvc or pvc was moving like that I would be worried. If not those you should be fine.
You can just take a screwdriver or a chisel and knock that putty out. It does get hard but you will be able to knock it out. Thanks for the question. I am going to add this to my video list.
Great question! I’ve used another JBWeld product like this and it is like rock. I would have used a Hugh density foam and heavily caulked the escutcheon to the pipe. At least you can remove it later with ease. The JBWeld product instructions say it can be drilled and machined, etc. Sounds pretty permanent.
I see your wall is made of ceramic. My shower is made of ABS plastic, and the shower head goes through the drywall, above the shower. I am wondering if that putty works well with drywall? Thanks, great video!
I have used it on drywall walls were the shower arms comes through. You just want to fill that hole. If it is completely filled the movement will be restricted. I hope this helps.
It can be removed. I have taken it out with a hammer and screwdriver before. Or if you remove the shower arm then you can stick the screwdriver in the hole left the the middle and pop it out like a plug.
Ugh I can’t find anything to help me. The INSIDE of my shower head it wobbling. Like where the ball is connect to the head itself. It won’t stop wobbling or stay in place. Just aims straight down 😩 I need HELP
So, instead of fixing it the right way by refastening the flange ell to the wood, it's best to rig things hapazardly with cheap band-aid style products. Gotcha. Nothing like being penny wise and pound foolish!

What happens if you ever need to change out the shower arm?
The shower arm can still be removed easy. I am going to do a video on this. The question has been asked enough at this point.
any advice regarding how to remove head pipe (for replacement) after previously doing this with JB weld to secure it?
Screwdriver or little chisel and that plug will come out.
wow just wat i needed!!! much appreciated

I think I have this same type of putty in a shower arm that I need to replace. Any recommendations on the removal? Thanks.
Does the JB Water Weld dry hard, or is it pliable?
It dries hard.

How do you put handicap hold bars on any shower what's the easiest way
The easiest way would be to use those suction cup style handles to put in the shower. Do you have a tiled or fiberglass tub set up?
will this help with in and out movement
It totally should. The could that I have done this way have had no movement after dry time.
How can u make sure that the water is not leaking on the inside?
I slide the escutcheon out and use a flashlight to look at the connection and if you still can’t see get an inspection mirror to look inside there.
That much movement makes me think the arm broken off some inside the nibble...or very close to breaking all way off! Need check for water leak inside the wall!
The hole was big enough to look in. There is no leak on it at all. That is a good thought though.
Question-after doing this how do you replace the shower arm in the future?? Like how can this be removed without tearing out the tile?
I have not had a issue with removing water weld. it is hard but not metal. Place it to where it is not touching tile, but only the backer board or green board behind the tile. That will make it easier.
@@ThatFixItGuy would you chisel it out or how would you do it

Yep. get a tube of clear water clean up caulk. Just put some right around the edge. Wipe with your finger till it looks pretty won’t take much to hold that.

Should I caulk it after ?
Trying to put in new shower arm and the pipe goes back and forth and wobbles all around inside the wall. I live in a trailer and am so worried it will leak. Any tips ?

Could the looseness cause a leak?

The only bad thing is if it leaks behind the wall, the water weld will keep you from seeing it.
