"Delicatessen" 1991 - a dark, post apocalyptic horror comedy.
"Yellowbeard" 1983 - a Pythoneseque pirate comedy, also featuring Marty"Young Frankenstein" Feldman.
"Withnail and I", have you seen that yet? British counterculture comedy with Richard E Grant and Paul McGann?

It’s DELIGHTFUL! I think that’s what I love about this movie-it dances that line between serious and campy so perfectly.
Director Donner used test audiences to time how long they'd look away from the screen once the sequence starts so that they'd look back _right_ when David Warner's head goes *SCHLUNK!*
The worst bit is his head comes to rest looking at its own reflection, like when he stared at himself after showing Thorne the photo of his accidentally-caught reflection.
But the pork chop is much better.
The composer Jerry Goldsmith won an Oscar for best original music score for this film 👍👍👍👍

My favorite Gregory Peck movie is "To Kill a Mockingbird". Great classic movie and a this is a great time of year to watch it too.

I remember the shocking thing about this movie is that it starred Gergory Peck who was a HUGE star throughout the '40s, '50s and '60s playing very serious dramatic roles.

He plays a pretty serious and dramatic role in The Omen here too @-hole. It's just a different kind of movie (a thriller).
What a remarkable film this is. I thought when I first saw this that it would be incredibly dated but it maintains its atmosphere of dread and suspense superbly.
Helped of course by what is definitely one of the all time scores.
Yeah, the score was great. They also knew when to drop it out completely and let the silence take over. Great tension with this one.
I think that word “dated” sucks anyway. I mean, does anybody actually care what kind of hairstyles, clothing fashions, and vehicle models are featured in a movie when they’re watching it? .. . or weather or not it features cgi visuals, big name People magazine’s “current HOT one hundred” celebrities in it’s cast, or “real bumpin” rap/hip hop/ thrash metal/emo music on the sound track? Well, I certainly don’t miss any of THAT stuff whenever I watch some oldie flick. Hell, as a matter of fact, I actually like that we have all these movies spanning well over a century - since Mister Edison invented the first motion picture camera, capturing and reflecting these different eras and displaying these different styles and methods. Its neat. I think it would be like, you know, boring if every movie looked like it came from two thousand (insert whenever year you happen to be reading this). This “dated” mentality is also the very thing which has recently resulted in this $h!tty Hollywood “reboot” trend which has been ruining cinema for the past fifteen, or so, years now.
David Warner (the photography) has an extensive list of movies & tv shows. He plays a time traveling Jack the Ripper being chased by HG Wells in a 1979 movie “Time After Time” that freaked me out as a kid. 😂
Great film that! and David was a class actor in many genres.
Now you have to finish the trilogy: DAMIEN: OMEN II next and then OMEN III: THE FINAL CONFLICT.

So...the photographer who's head goes *SCLUCK* is played by David Warner. He "dies" in 45 of the 200+ things he was in (a record, I'd guess?). You saw him bite it in Titanic...so 2 down! 43 to go!
Shouldn't spoil anything necessarily as he _only_ dies 23% of the time. Like in Star Trek, only 1 of the 3 species he plays snuffs it.

Christopher Lee holds the record I think, something like 70 deaths in film. I suppose playing Dracula a bunch inflates those numbers, lol.

Killer review man! I graduated in 1988. I watched horror movies on TV at my grandparents. 3 movies scared the hell out of me. One was the Omen, the other two were Salem's Lot and Carrie. Good spooky times indeed!

Great reaction, saw this in the theater as a 9 year kld when it came out so I can't imagine going through life without this film haunting my fears. Be sure to watch the sequel it is quite good but avoid anything after that, it's shit.
You might want to check out Good Omens. It's Niel Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's take on this story.
First of all I’ve never understood why the apostles of Satan told Thorne about switching the babies. Wouldn’t it have been better to do it on the sly so that he thought Damien was his biological child? He would have been much more reluctant to believe the priest & to destroy the boy if he thought Damien was his son by blood.
I’ve always found this movie to be more terrifying than The Exorcist since the child here IS the Ultimate Evil. If your child is possessed by evil you fight back to save your kid but what do you do if your child IS Evil?
The knowledge that the child you love & nurtured & protected is destined to destroy all of humanity - what do you do with that.
K!LL the child you adore to save mankind then live the rest of your life with what you’ve done & wonder if you were wrong about the kid being Evil. Or do you continue to raise the kid & hope you can teach them what is right & how to be a good person knowing that if you fail the child you love will destroy the world?
But the thing that terrifies me the most is the utter disregard & disrespect that is shown to the wife. She’s an intelligence & capable woman but she has no say in her own life or control over her own body. Her husband doesn’t tell her what happened to their child at the beginning of the movie & then she has to get permission from her doctor & husband to end an unwanted pregn@ncy as if she’s nothing but an incubator who’s needs mean nothing. The men own her body & soul. It’s disgusting.
You have a verl valid point. I saw another reactor give their review of this movie and they didn't like it because they didn't think it was scary. That's understandable because some people like different types of horror. And someone in that same reactor's comment section stated that other reactors were faking that they liked The Omen for likes because only religious superstitious would believe it. With that skewed kind of thinking, then why are people afraid of vampires and werewolves? Obviously some people like slasher and monster movies with a lot of gore. This movie is a lot more sophisticated than that. You hit the nail on the head that is it more terrifying to know that a child that is the Antichrist and represents the pure definition of Evil, more scarier to me than monsters, or killers that walk around stabbing people. How can anyone not see that it is more terrifying than someone possessed by an entity? Damien could have risen to a high position in government or leadership and could have spread much more terror and caused catastrophic events with his gain in power. Yes, the Exorcist is a great movie and scares the crap out of you and deserves to be recognized as one of the scariest movies ever made. However, the thought of having a real life Damien out there is a truly horrifying thought. That's why it scared the hell out of me.
Good reaction. Check out some basic Bible Prophesy. It explains a lot of this movie. I'm an atheist and don't believe in that sort of stuff, but I do find it fascinating. Most of the prophesies come from the Biblical Book of Revelation. The last book of the Bible. It states that a figure will appear in the future, called 'The Anti-Christ.' (Damien in this film) It states he was "Born of a Jackal" which explains the animal skeleton in the Graveyard sequence. It also says that the Anti-Christ will bear a mark of some type upon him. The marking represents Six Hundred, Sixty Six - 666. It is tripped out stuff, fake or not.
Love your reviews, man. Because they're reviews, not just reactions. I don't think I've seen anyone else provide as much commentary on the technical aspects as you have. This is an absolutely brilliant film, in terms of the writing and acting. Certainly not your typical horror fare from the era, and the music, lighting and camera work take it steps beyond.
If you're interested in checking out more of Gregory Peck's work, I would start with Cape Fear. It has more of what you loved about this film, and I think you'll love what's done with light and shadow in black and white. Another must-see is To Kill a Mockingbird, for his performance, if nothing else. Though there's plenty more to enjoy.

The omen is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. I mean, I really don’t know what else to say that hasn’t already been said about this movie. It is definitely a fucking classic. The score by Jerry Goldsmith is forever, bone, chilling, and legendary. And the direction by Richard Donner is a sight to behold. And the acting by Gregory Peck and Lee Remick is amazing. To be honest it really is a scary thought about the antichrist being here right now planning to kill and enslave the whole world but he’s just a little boy at this very moment.

Gregory Peck's best film, in my opinion, was his portrayal of Captain Ahab in the 1956 version of Herman Melville's "Moby Dick," but he has several excellent films to his credit.
I was born in 1976 and when I saw this as a kid it messed me up for a bit..lol
My version of this is the 1990 version of IT
It won the Oscar for Best Original Score.
The movie is said to be cursed:
Gregory Peck's eldest son committed suicide a month before they started filming and Peck had to take time off.
Both Peck and Director Richard Donner's plane were both struck by lightning.
A bomb went off in a hotel, killing some of the some of the staff, as the cast and crew were going to stay, but they arrived a day later.
Producer Mace Neufeld and his wife were having lunch and then, 10 seconds later after leaving, a bomb went off in thr kitchen, killing the staff
A lion tamer was killed by his own lion at the zoo, where they were going to film a scene thst involved Damien laughing at the man getting killed by the big cat. The scene was scrapped.
The Baboon Sequence almost ended badly as the Director had the alpha male in thr backseat of the car, where the baboons try to tear apart the car to save their friend.
Special Effects Supervisor John Richardson and his girlfriend got into a car accident, where his girlfriend got decapitated after she went head first right through the windshield. It happened near a road sign that read Onmen, 66.6 kilometers.

Thank you for a fantastic reaction! I actually visited the place where Robert meets Father Brennan. It's by the Thames, near Putney Bridge. I went on a cold Autumn day, it was quite chilling to be there! Damien: Omen 2 is one of the best horror sequels in my opinion, would be great to see you react to that too!

There's one made for television Omen IV The Awakening.

A great reaction (I found oddly enjoyable!) to a 70's classic that was one of the few films that scared me! Though it serves me right for staying up late one night as a kid to watch it! I remember being freaked out afterwards! Though I got over it eventually.. ;) Keep up the fine work buddy!
The sequel is good too, I've seen the third one and liked it but it has been 20+ years since I've seen it so I don't remember if it's actually good or if I just love Sam Neill.

this is the first time i see somebody so excited and amused while watching this movie. 🤣🤣
A classic. There was a 2016 tv series called “Damien” based off this that only lasted one season. It started Bradley James and a lot of other recognizable faces. Damien was a young adult & unaware of his identity in the beginning. I really liked it. I wish it would have continued.

One of my favorite classics in my collection this, The sentinel, burnt offerings and don't look now are great classics too. Oh by the way all kinds of insane horrific things happen during the filming of this one of the craziest things was someone that worked on the film was also a pilot that was forced to crash land in the city managing to only hit one car but that one car was his wife and kid

Here's a goof I just recently noticed. Right at the beginning, 6 am on 6th June should already be broad daylight not nighttime as portrayed in the movie.

@@rickardroach9075 sorry but this makes no sense. In order for it to be dark again it would have to be late evening again, like 10 pm. Also, it literally says 6am on the screen. It is what it is, a goof. But that doesn't make it a bad movie.
@@stephanx2384 25 minutes after sunrise is hardly "broad daylight," especially in a built-up, crowded city like Rome, where in June, the sunrise begins at the horizon, blocked by the city buildings, around 5:35+-am, and this film was not aimed at Roman audiences to nitpick over. The point of the slug line/title card was to set up the moment later in the film when Jennings reveals the potential "666" connection. Hardly a "goof" worth mentioning.

another good movie: THE BAD SEED.... 50s movie... pretty dark and first of its kind... paved the way for others like it...my mom played it for me i was surprised that was made in 1956... bet it was controversial as hell
DAM that sound score is creepy.... i saw a movie in theaters called SINISTER.. honestly Sinister has the creepiest soundtrack of all time. I even tried playing it to A PAGE OF MADNESS its a silent film from the 20s and its suppose to be like what insanity feels like lol not sure what i was thinking cuz there are 2 tracks i just CANNOT listen to on that soundtrack theres like chanting and very inhuman noises and to boot its very doom and gloom... its very uncomfortable to hear but i give props to whoever created that hellish Score. its like nothing i've ever heard in my LIFE.
i remember really liking the remake...it was savage! about 2005/06ish saw it in theaters... mia farrow was in it from rosemary';s baby...she was spooky in the omen remake with juliette stiles

Yes I advise people to watch- VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED, and NIGHT OF THE DEMON from 1958 probably the first marked for death type film made, dealing with Witch craft, & curses.

Set in 18th-century France, the film tells the story of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Whishaw), an olfactory genius, and his homicidal quest for the perfect scent." -Wikipedia
Tom Tykwer also directed Run, Lola, Run (1998) and Cloud Atlas (2012), both of which are great f**king movies. He directed Cloud Atlas with the Wachowskis of The Matrix fame.

This movie is one of my favourite horror movies. (This an "Jacob's Ladder" (1990). The ending with Damien ending up with the President sets it up for Omen II where he's a teenager, and Omen III when he's an adult.... But just remember that....He's brought up in a house of power and control...
This is kinda the Godfather of horror: great sequel, but the third one a bit below par. 😉
But still - you should definitely watch part 2.
Oh and if you're looking for Greg Peck's finest hour, To Kill A Mockingbird, Roman Holiday, or the original (and best) Cape Fear.

Great reaction to an absolute masterpiece. As you said, everything about this film is so brilliantly crafted . Great plot ,great cinemotography, great score & superb acting . Special shout out to Billie Whitelaw who portrayed the evil nanny magnificently & Patrick Troughton the priest ,who was of course the second Dr Who ! . Dont be afraid to look at more " older" films you have many undiscovered gems to unearth ! Enjoy.
Heeeeeee!!! This is a fun one, isn't it? The sequel is pretty good too, although not nearly as stylish and deliberate as this one. Richard Donner was in "Superman" hell when the sequel happened so it was a different director who didn't make as much of a meal out of everything. Similarly starry cast though, and there's some nice stuff in it. Only good thing about the third film is Sam Neill and Jerry Goldsmith's music.
Charlton Heston was the first one approached to play Gregory Peck's part and he was tempted but if memory serves he couldn't quite make the scheduling work with everything else he was doing that year. Peck was as good as he's been in this but I can't help wondering what Heston would have done with it. 😃
Gotta give another plug to "The Changeling." It really takes you on a journey. 😉
The first time I watched this, it was about 11 p.m. and I was by myself in my apartment. I knew it was about a devil child but didn't know much more. I remember when the chanting began at the beginning of the movie, a massive chill ran up my spine and the hair on the back of my neck stood up.
Always my go-to horror film for decades. Beautifully made, superbly acted and convincing. The follow up is enjoyable too but this will always be the best.
There’s a great documentary called The Curse of the Omen. It details all the unexplained events that plagued the making of this film.
This film is a bit of a trip from "I take it Black--just like my men." But I love them both equally, depending on my mood at the moment. 😅😅😅
Photos in films were used pretty often in this period. Try Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Thomas Crown Affair.
In the 50s & 60s it was common to use photo montages instead of filming a scene to save money & or running time (NB this was never done with key scenes and was less common by the time this film came out)🎩
