    Good idea with the tap alignment. I use my drill press and chuck the tap up and run it by hand to keep my hole straight. I’m sure you’ve done the same before but if not, just a friendly suggestion to try. If you need a little more torque, I just use the chuck key or you could always just pull the belt so your not trying to turn the motor with it.

    Boy you sure do need a mill. That is tons of work but you made it work for what tools you have. Nice job.

    Nice build only suggestion I would add for the future is clean the mill scale off your steel before welding especially with a small machine where you don't have the power to burn through it you can often get away with it on thin tubing etc because it's a thin layer but plate and thicker metals have a lot thicker mill scale and while the weld might look ok on the surface they get very little penetration past the scale if at all without a lot of juice and are usually just laying on the surface and can usually be broken right off with a wrench just simply removing the mill scale can greatly improve penetration especially on small machines jody on welding tips and tricks has a great video demonstrating mill scale vs clean material as well as others for anyone interested short circuit is great but it has its limitations on certain materials again great build really not trying to be a jerk just passing on information👍👍👍

    I like your angle tap guide idea. I will definitely use that idea going forward. You're awesome. Thanks 🤟👍

    I really like the idea of the exchangeable and adjustable Y-Axis. Although with the play in the X-Axis maybe weld a piece underneath the water tank from side to side should make the play minimum. with a router installed it would put more pressure and play would be greater. Overall love the video's and the time you put into this work.

    Good thinking on the belt, that would have never crossed my mind.

    spent half a day trying to get my homing and limit sensors working the I notices the little red LED was dimmer than the other I changed it with another one and it worked. I f you buy these test them out right away because there is a high failure rate with cheap Chinese proximity sensors.

    If you would make a CD with complete plans and instructions, on building this table, including all measurements, I am sure you could sell the heck out of them. I would be first in line.

      All of the 3D drawings are available to Patreons. That's the best I can do right now.

    1:10 you can watch the belt movement when you move the gantry i think your pulleys are not inline with the belt meaning the pulley if slightly wider... or if you put washers between the pulley and the gantry plate it wouldn't ride on the edge of your pulley. I think a lot of your issue is the alignment tho.

      Not sure if it was in this video or the next one. But it turned out that the problem was a bad belt. I put on a new belt and all the problems went away.

    Love what you have done, but I have a quick question... why is the gantry offset to the left from the linear rail trolley? I would have thought it would be centered on the trolley. I would think it would put unnecessary rotational forces on the linear rail by being to the side? Thoughts? Am I off base?

    Awesome build, I'm loving this! By the way, something's wrong with the proximity sensor link, you might wanna check that, it goes to a generic Amazon page. Ciao, Marco.

      I fixed the link yesterday, it should be working now. Thanks for watching!

      LOL, Yeah, it's hot enough now that it will be tied back all the time. Thanks for watching.

    Why couldn't you just scribe a reference line on the linear rail's box steel using a straight edge or a taught piece of fine monofilament.

    IS THERE A REASON USING A DRIVE BELT ATO USE OF ACME SCREW SYSTEM

  • @seanmasse4002

    Any reason you went with belts vs a spur gear system?

    • @MakingStuff
      @MakingStuff  4 роки тому

      I already had the belt on hand.

      @seanmasse4002 4 роки тому

      Ok. I am just planning mine and thinking that the spur gears might be stouter. Have you seen the ones that stefan does? I like the extruded aluminum idea, should make be true than hss and no need to drill and tap a million holes.
      Great video series btw!

    what size are the pulley's?

    Never ever have gloves on when working with spinning machines like a drill press.
    Unless you want to get pulled into the machine that is but it's not advisable for your health.

      Making Stuff more oz-in is better? I want to build 5ft x 5ft plasma cnc

    • @MakingStuff
      @MakingStuff  6 років тому

      Yeah more oz-in equals more torque.

    Why didn't you leave the steel on the drill press and use a tap follower with your tap to tap? Extra hand, more true, and faster. Yes, just another armchair quarterback...

    • @MakingStuff

      My drill press sucks. Try not to use it much. Really, it's time for a new one.
