In 1989, in Reno Nevada, I married a guy I'd known for 3 weeks. He was working as a contractor in the Bay Area, so I tagged along to work with him whenever I was on a break from Road to Avonlea. I learned about building and repairing houses. When Avonlea ended in 1996, the Women's Television Network was looking for a show about home repair, so a casting director recruited me. By then I had my contractor's license. And I'm still married to the guy, despite my mother's low expectations for a successful marriage!
