High Five Ramen in Chicago. Just to be clear, I dig this place. The ramen is great, but be careful of the spice level. Half spice was almost too much for me. Hence I didn't "crush it". The wait can be crazy, upwards of two or tree hours sometime, but you can wait and have drinks upstairs. All-in-all, a must-hit spot for ramen lovers in Chicago.
My wife and I live in Chicago and we have been going to Highfive for years. I have ordered the Kanabo 3 times and it is very spicy! I prefer the regular or half spice because you can taste the Tonkotsu broth better--not just all spice.
There was no "crushed it" which tells me all I need to know about this place.
Honestly, a great bowl but I rarely crush spicy bowls
Beautiful video, I've become a spice enthusiast due to Strictlydumpling (another youtuber) and I would love to try this bowl!
Yay new video!!
I gotta grab a bowl of that Kanabo, yo! I loves me some spicy miso ramen!!
Hello from los Angeles! I saw th title and I had to CLICK SO FAST. I am a ramen lover and high five have been my favorite ramen shop in my entire life! My absolute favorite! Im so happy you made this video!!
Great! One of the best spicy bowls Ive ever had.
Ate there today. So, if you like a little heat I would go at least half spice IMO. Quarter spice barely made my nose run. They have chili oil you can add after you have your bowl. I thought it was very good. Get there early, 3:45 if opening at 4pm
Really nice music as outro
what is it? Ramen Adventures
Nice! Come to Toronto next please :)
Would love to
Dude! I live in Chicago! I've never been to this place but I dug "Ramen Misoya"(my favorite) & "Furious Spoon" for my Ramen needs! Get yourself an Italian beef & Chicago style hotdog while you're in town, too
I had a lot of great food in Chicago.
if you ever come to taipei again, I'd be happy to take you to my favorite shop(s)
Sure thing!
It was great, but as a pepper addict it was right where I would want a spicy bowl of ramen to be. Chef didn’t believe I’d finish it, turned out he was right but only because of the salt. Salty not withstanding, it was an amazing bowl of ramen and I can’t wait to go back.
+Mason Smith wow, I’m impressed by anyone who can handle this heat
すばらしい!ありがとう!
Please check out Furious Spoon if you are still in Chicago.
Next time!
I'm in the CHI!, GOING THIS WEEKEND!
That looked fucking tasty. That pocket wifi company seemed chill as hell. Are they only for Chicago or other places in teh US too?
They have models for anywhere in the world
Been following you for years, waiting for you to come to High Five here in Chicago and try the Half Spice! It seems that you really liked it, but I was a bit deflated by the lack of your assessment of how good it tasted when you left, as opposed to commenting on how authentic it is.
Yeah, I noticed that I didn’t really talk about it that way. I’ll try and up my commentary game.
Kanabo! that was the first bowl I tried at High Five. ahh when were you here?
This was in March I think.
iirc there's a ramen chain called 鬼金棒 that serves really spicy miso ramen.
One of the best
You should of gone to a few more shops around to city and compared. There’s a place called Wasabi that’s pretty good. Definitely worth the drive and wait.
I was only there a couple days, and didn’t eat much ramen.
So would you recommend the shop. I’m only asking because the only criticism you gave was it’s different. I was kind of hoping for more of a response to if you enjoyed it or not
I think you just answered your own question
I enjoyed it. It is delicious and a very interesting vibe. The wait can be nuts though.
Ramen Adventures thank you sir I appreciate your reply and opinion
Madison and twin cities have some legit shops, if you head that way.
Interesting. Maybe someday.
Hey bro... Im a new Sub. I just ate ramen the past 2 wks straight. 7 out the fourteen days. Im from southern cal...... here are some High recommendation:
Modan Artisan Ramen (south Pasadena Ca.
Ajisen Ramen (multi location: Rowland Heights CA)
SHINSEGUMI (multi location: Rosemead CA.
There are hundreds of Ramen houses in my area alone but those 3 are Highly recommended.
Thanks for the tips
the reddit ramen god /u/ramenlord does a ramen popup in Chicago every now and then, should definitely check him out
plaxagoras ;l
I searched and found a guy that had nothing to do with ramen :X
Haha, stay tuned
Yup, first thing I thought when I saw ramen and Chicago was u/ramen_lord
How did you start becoming a Ramen enthusiast?
Just loving it for about 10 years!
How is an almost 5 minute video about ramen, show virtually no ramen other than some placating shots of chop sticks pulling noodles out of a broth?
I didn’t realize there was so little. Sorry!
that Ramen looks like tasty .... and gotta say, the ramen shop design is pretty neat
so this is a commercial?
Based on the lack of praise, I would say no.
No
sichuan peppercorn on ramen? these hipsters are smoking too much
We find it in Japan quite a bit
Misoya is pretty good, and furious ramen. I don't think Chicago have lots of good ramens.
Barry Cai ramen santouka in the burbs is amazing and kizuki is also great. Tons of great ramen in Chicago.
Ive heard of many shops. I would like to try them someday.
Check out Misoya, Shinchan, & Kitakata Bannai in the burbs, High Five, Wasabi, & Takeya in the city.
Just no...
This place is wayyy overrated.
It is pretty hip, so I could see that, but the ramen was good.
Nothing to learn here folks, move right along. Seriously, where was the review?
The ramen was tasty.
5/5 🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜
Good thing you're not there for the pizza. They don't have pizza in Chicago. Just some deep dish cheesy meat pie with tomato sauce. Has absolutely nothing to do with pizza.
idiot
It's a joke, relax.
I ate at 3 of the popular spots. All great, but the wait situation could be a bit much.
boi finna start a fight
