Little story from when my grandma tried getting me into the military in 2018. I flunked out the physical tests within a week, and while being processed out over the next month -- in our barracks there was a TV. Someone had with them a box set of the entire series of a avatar. Over the course of those three week, we saw the entire series. Barracks sat around in chairs, in complete silence to not talk over the TV. It was the highlight of every day, everyone crowded around this one TV. Avatar is such a universally loved show.
Y'know, I didnt expect the funny, vtuber song guy to upload a 3 hour deep dive on a show I watched growing up, but can say this was a very pleasant suprise.
To me, Avatar stands as a beacon of what happens when a studio actually commits to and supports an idea and how good it can be compared to these days when shows suffer from being cancelled unexpectedly when a producer or studio gets cold feet and backs out. To this day I still feel like so many shows that had strong, long-running premises got jilted and are remembered poorly because they received a sudden cancel notice that forced them to rush the ending. I think we all know at least one show that fits that symptom.
@@dudeman5303 Fair I agree honestly. If I have a 8 hour video and a 5 minute video on the same topic I'd watch the 8 hour one every time without exception*
Something about seeing Zuko serving everyone tea at the end was a great touch. The Fire Lord serving tea like a waiter 🤌.... Yes, ik , im late to the party. I just watched this show.
@viedogaems His holiday spot. His oasis... Funny to think how Aang would have beaten Ozai without being in the Avatar state if he had redirected the lightning directly back at him. Tho Aang changed course due to the fact that it would have killed Ozai
With the beach, id say all of those things are normal interactions at a teenage party, not sure if youve ever been to one but, if people could firebend, there would be firebending at every party

For Tolkien fans there is the parallel of "yes return when you've captured the avatar alive" to " yes you can marry my daughter when you hold a silmaril in your hand" it just means when pigs fly for Tolkien, but for Avatar it means a lot more
The title has to be satirical as I saw the title and the run time and laughed, moreover each episode review is brief in it's telling so technically true to an extent in that regard. A good overview overall I'd say, accurate and has interesting opinions.

The actual reason why Azula attacked Iroh is that he noticed Toph and looked away from Azula for just a moment and that moment of weakness is when she strikes.
50:44 I would also argue that firebending is one of the weakest forms of bending out there. Without the technological superiority and military doctrine, the Fire Nation would be easily obliterated in combat. The main combat application of firebending is to serve as 'a lot of damage', which can still be done with the other forms of bending (except maybe airbending). Most of the abilities that firebenders have (which is either just shooting a short wave of fire, a long stream of fire or a direct fireball) can be countered by the other forms of bending. In fact, since fire requires air in order to creation friction, skilled airbenders could likely create a 'vacuum' (or some sort of 'air bubble') around firebenders to make their fire more difficult to create. Otherwise, airbenders could just evade most fire-based attacks coming their way unless they are cornered or outnumbered. In a similar vein, earthbenders could just create walls in order to block most fire (although the heat would likely still cause discomfort and potential burning, which what should have happened when Toph encased herself in metal when being blasted with fire streams). Firebending doesn't really have any sort of luxery with these 'miscelanous' application of the bending style (besides metallurgy and combustion, which are more 'commercial' practice) When it comes to lightningbending, it seems pretty much like a 'win more' so to speak. The wind-up time is extremely long (except for Ozai, but he'll be able to destroy you with regular firebending (or even without bending at all) regardless) without any sort of additional payoff. Sure, it does do a lot more damage, but if somebody is hit by your fire, they will most likely be dead or severely injured to the point where they cannot fight anyways (like what counts as 'casualities' in war). It seems like the main point of lightningbending outside of energy generation would be to use it as a 'sniper rifle' since it travels insanely fast (I think lightning travels at the speed of sound, but somebody much smarter than me can likely correct me on that), so if you catch your target by surprise (which good luck doing that due to the long wind-up time while generating the blue sparks making your location and intentions known).
Loved the vid, great to see all the love ATLA still gets. You had me fooled immensely tho, I was playing Skyrim while watching and had to check multiple times whether the music was in-game or not.

I don't know if someone said that already but in "The Chase" I don't think Azula shot Iroh because she knew he was the most important one for Zuko and that he's weak. I think it's the opposite. Highly disagree about painted lady. I think it gives a good insight into the devastating consequences of war and adds further worldbuilding. We learn about the firenation's massive inequality, the consequences of their imperial/industrial aims on civilians, and how the common people are dealing with the war. It helps to humanize the fire nation into something less than a monolith, while also being an important episode for showcasing Katara's empathy. It helps us learn more about how the citizens of the fire nation actually live and adds some worldbuilding through learning about another spirit. It's not critical to the main plot, but I think it adds a lot to the show.
Now funny thing for me and the idea of "Filler" in Avatar. I had always heard people online mention how The Great Divide is the worst episode ever and was pointless filler and usually is held up as the only "Filler" episode that isn't a recap like the Ember Island Players. But for me, personally? I always liked the Great Divide. It was great foreshadowing for the end of the series. Showing Aang stepping up as a uniter and peacemaker, instead of picking a side. How he both tries to accept the expectations of others, but also is willing to adapt and come up with solutions that no one else had considered. because it's an odd little theme in the series. The direct A to B route that all of the contemporaries to the world see is just not really what works in the end. That there needs to be a more nuanced and flexible approach. Obvious examples include book 2 where they try to force Aang into the Avatar State. Or how Zuko struggles with his Firebending in Book 3 because the simple solution of "Channel your rage" no longer works for him. Or how the direct and obvious plan everyone has "Invade the Fire Nation during the eclipse to win militarily" is a humongous disaster that destroys what resistance there was to the Fire Nation launching a larger invasion. And of course the finale where everyone says Aang needs to murder the firelord and he instead comes up with a solution no one even saw on the table. One that plays up better as it gives Zuko the chance to do something he really desired... find out what happened to his mother from him (I know that was a book they released, never read it, just that it was teased as the next thing to happen as though there was meant to be a fourth season about it). Or even how Aang has to eschew enlightenment and fully mastering his avatar state to save his friends. Which in turn is the right solution. For me the Great Divide was the moment that really first highlighted that theme and idea. Aang doesn't pick a side. Aang doesn't renounce both of them or take some petty vengeance as others might have. He doesn't perpetuate the feud. He does something no one considered. Just lying about a past so far removed that no one knows the truth anyway for a greater good. Something I don't think you needed to be the Avatar to do (they didn't seem to believe him because he was the Avatar, just because he claimed to be from that time and witnessed it. Could have worked with anyone just claiming to have heard that story I suppose). It's nice that way. Bumi's introduction is similar in that fashion. Also kind of touching bases on how seeing things in a different way could give an experience remembered for a lifetime. Instead of just seeing things how everyone else wants you to see it. I dunno. Just me. I seem to be very, very alone in that. Just a nice theme that when everyone gives you an A or B solution... maybe you want to look at C-G instead? Find something that works for you instead of letting yourself be told what needs to work.
I think its bad to redeem Jet, like zuko can be redeemed cause he was a victim of his own nation, but to expect Jet to look past the flag, well if he had an Uncle Iroh we can expect that of him, but really, they turned jet into too much of a hero. He was a leader for all those kids though so, it couldve been the plan all along. I think thats a nickelodeon decision though
The Headband is one way that the 22 minute cartoon format fucked them. The rest of the developments didnt have to be so rushed, they couldve got to the fire nation to hide with the intention of geurilla warfare, but none of them would wanna disrupt it, just like they all realized with the colony in the comics. Aang would enter the Avatar state, proclaim the plan, and Sokka would say "yeah and then we'll do this!" and claim the prophecy as his plan
i blame this show for my spiritualism i grew up on this show n now that i'm an adult i talk a lot about how we can achieve peace and how we need to fight with kindness and compaction
Hopefully it's just an out of context clip from an interview. From the question itself, it seemed as though they were merely toning down some of the dialog to better adapt the scenes in live action. But yeah, Sokka's sexism was a trait informed by his upbringing and was important to other journeys as well, like Katara's fued with Pakku reflecting her brother's earlier behavior. And Suki's romantic involvement also being linked to his growth.
@@viedogaems I agree completely. Hollywood is terrified of making flawed characters. This leads to characters nobody relates to because we are flawed. I think sokka having that attitude towards women and then learning like he does in the animated series would be good for young men to see. It would potentially spark change if portrayed well. It's a shame we are getting less and less flawed characters in media.
The pronunciation of the admiral from the fire nation bugs me. I understand he's doing it probably based off of spelling as opposed to trying to do it based off the show, but it still bothers me. lol
Eh I say animation is entering another dark age at least in terms of western animation, everyrhng seems made for the lowest common denominator and if something new doesnt have success in 0.8 seconds it gets cancelled or tossed aside as a tax write off. The action cartoon is all but dead now and anything that is still running has devolved into the bare basics.
eh twin, id argue da only filler episode/ in avatar da desert library one and imprisoned (s1e6). meetn king bumi had a purpose in da story n served as a a catalyst fo aang to connect w/his past.
I had never seen avatar before and girlfriend made me watch the entire thing with her. I have to say it was pretty good but I do have to say I do think it’s very overrated. It’s a really good show but I don’t think it’s a masterpiece or anything. I’m also not really a fan of the series finale. Aang not wanting to kill The fire lord is so stupid and it was something that was never mentioned throughout the entire show and neither was energy bending. I also don’t believe that Aang didn’t kill at least one person throughout the entire show. Also, the lion turtle makes me uncomfortable. I don’t why but I really don’t like it

nostalgia of a childhood!!
omg the maplestory soundtrack
as an avid avatar watcher, there are two filler episodes:
S1 E11: The Great Divide
S3 E3: The Painted Lady
I really wish Ty Lee and Mai had actually done something in the series finale instead of just appearing after all of the conflict was already over
Love the creepy botw music used in book 3
And then Lurelin Village theme?! V good v good
I think its bad to redeem Jet, like zuko can be redeemed cause he was a victim of his own nation, but to expect Jet to look past the flag, well if he had an Uncle Iroh we can expect that of him, but really, they turned jet into too much of a hero. He was a leader for all those kids though so, it couldve been the plan all along. I think thats a nickelodeon decision though
Very well written
The Headband is one way that the 22 minute cartoon format fucked them. The rest of the developments didnt have to be so rushed, they couldve got to the fire nation to hide with the intention of geurilla warfare, but none of them would wanna disrupt it, just like they all realized with the colony in the comics. Aang would enter the Avatar state, proclaim the plan, and Sokka would say "yeah and then we'll do this!" and claim the prophecy as his plan
i blame this show for my spiritualism i grew up on this show n now that i'm an adult i talk a lot about how we can achieve peace and how we need to fight with kindness and compaction
fantastic video.
Its hard sometime reconciling sokka is actually one of the more competent people in the verse 😂😂😂😅
Love this so much!
Great video 😍
1:03:50 There is no live action movie in Ba Sing Se
thank you for this... I loved every minute of it
With the live action what do you think about them removing sokkas treatment of women. I think it eliminates his character growth.

I had a feeling youd use that image for the thumbnail lol
FINE. I’ll watch avatar.
👌
The pronunciation of the admiral from the fire nation bugs me. I understand he's doing it probably based off of spelling as opposed to trying to do it based off the show, but it still bothers me. lol
This is not brief
cool
bro playing the skyrim beats
this vid ain’t brief mf… you just gave me content to watch for my next 8 days worth of shits
brief
yes
Brief
Is it me or is youtube not sending post notifications, and content recommendations and not showing your channel's name in the search results?
youtube is finicky like that
'Brief' checks time uhh...
Who's "MY" ?
…Brief?
"Brief"
Title: "brief retrospective"
Video: 3 hours
Opens a video title with the word BRIEF in it and proceed to watch a feature length video that makes the LOTR extended cuts say “bruh you gotta chill”
I always skip "Appa's lost days", that episode makes me sick to my stomach and I don't understand how anyone could watch it :(
The sadness makes his reunion that much sweeter.
Sorry man, 3 hours and 10 minutes is too brief for a show like ATLA. 6-8 hours wouldve been long enough, but still be brief and too the point.
eh twin, id argue da only filler episode/ in avatar da desert library one and imprisoned (s1e6). meetn king bumi had a purpose in da story n served as a a catalyst fo aang to connect w/his past.
Doesn't The Library set up The Day Of Black Sun though? It's also where Appa gets captured
I don’t why but I really don’t like it
@eh3630thank you for reminding me of my boi Zhan Wei Fu. May he get his revenge..
I have to say your opinion is the worst I've ever seen :p except yes the not killing the firelord and energy bending sucked.
mispronouncing names show u dont watch the show
i reviewed the entire show without watching a single episode
