Just had our roof replaced and they replaced the attic roof fan. (old one had a seized motor). Hooked up power it today and it's a rockin' and a rollin'. Saw this video and went back up and checked the blades - yep - 2 were "bent" out of place, it's a 6 blade fan. Tweaked them a bit and got it 50% better. Will go back when it's not 100+ up there. Appreciate you passing on your knowledge Gary.
Just tweaked one blade on the 5 blade stamped aluminum 'air drive' fan for my natural gas garage heater. It's way quieter now. Hopefully the imbalance didn't mess up the motor bearings already. This is the 2nd time in 2 years I've had a blade warp on its own. I've replaced the motor once and fan once. 11 year old heater. Thanks for sharing your experience
You gave me an idea how to find a bent brass blade on an antique (1914) desk fan I am working on. It was not out by much but you could see some back and forth motion when the fan was running. I put a pencil in a vise length wise with the eraser sticking out. With the blade mounted on the motor I backed up the fan until the edge of the blade just barely cleared the eraser. I turned the blade by hand and one of the blades did not clear the eraser. On the first try bending it forward (those old brass blades are tough) I got it over 90% corrected and the difference is very noticeable. I know better than to press my luck so at that point I left it alone and unless you look very closely you can't tell the blade isn't 100% perfect. It is so close I'll bet that no one but me will be able to tell. Thanks very much.
Ah memories. I used to work on helicopters. Out of track or wrong pitch angle will cause the same vibration. Enstrom Helicopter was chasing after a vibration problem, they even recommended using the same manufacturer for each blade (Alcoa/Reynolds) because they thought the spars might have different flexibility even tho the material spec was the same.
your giving me hope LOL ,,,,,its going to t ake time i can see that ,,,,it can be done to where you can run a unit without too much chacking i beleive ,,,,thanks
I don't recommend specific brands, so I can't help there. Replacement of the blade is probably the only option here. Window shakers are sold on price in most cases, so cheap is what you get. GFM
You can bend all the blade down very aggressive (not a little) and it will almost double the cfm. Did it to my 15" solar fan rpm still the same. And quiet no sound at all.
What about a Window A/c unit. I have a 2013 LG- I have gone through 3 of these models and they all have had fan issues.Warrently? Well it's only as good as the service guy who NEVER shows up so figured I was on my own. Mine has a broken blade, so I mesured it and got 23.20 grams. Added that weight in in quarters attached with expoxy and fiberglass. Still vibs and noticed I still have one blade almost directly opposite that is heavy. Still trying . If I fail what is good 8k unit that is realible
Question in one of the apartments I work at the Ptac fan wobbles a lot but it looks like an adhesive came undone between the fan and the motor I’ve put jb weld and epoxy in between to feel but the fan shakes terribly still any other ways I should try?
If you were building up ice on the indoor coil, you still have the problem. There are several reasons for this. low air flow from plugged filter, coil or ductwork problem. Low refrigerant charge in the A/C. Temp setting too low (below 70F). GFM
Thanks for the video. I just replaced my motor and unit is wobbling pretty hard. Didn't exactly run buttery smooth before changing the motor but seems noticeably worse now. Have you ever seen anyone bend a shaft by overtightening a set-screw? Is an aftermarket fan ok for replacement?

Yeah, these 100+ days are a monster.

that screwdriver trick was very clever, fixed it for me. Thanks!
Remove the blade and lay on flat surface its even easier...
Who'd have thought a 9 year old video would be the answer to me stopping my AC unit from flying apart.

This works with household fans; great video!
Thanks for the support.

Not going to do that.

Thanks for postin. You got a like and subscriber.
I live at my dads house in Mountainbrook Alabama and it does that
Awesome amazing impressive great job
My A/C is missing that black thing on top of the fan motor - what is that called ?
I've looking everywhere online.
It's probably a rain shield. Available all over the internet.

Great video. Thanks.

Unfortunately, fan blade replacement is about all you can do.

You didn’t show how you fixed it you put a screw in and then you said you’re gonna do some another trick and then you didn’t do it
In my case I just had to shut the unit off for a couple hours, let it drain. Guess it was working to hard and built ice up inside?

Hi there:
Where dis you get that fan holder. I may have the same problem. I would lime a way to inspect without loosing a digit.
Thanks
That's actually the mount from the A/C unit.

Thankyoum I fixed my fan blade myself
I have a Lasko three blade standup fan with PLASTIC blades. One of the blades is bent. Is there any special trick to straightening out plastic blades?
Replace the fan.

Koi bata sakta h bluestar 8.5 ton ki fan motor kese khole gi
mine is bent pretty bad. should i jst relace it
I would.
GFM
nvm my dad got it fix.
So would I. Once that motor shaft is bent out of alignment by warped blades, it can eventually lead to overheating, and subsequently a fire.
Thanks man, its helpful

Is an aftermarket fan ok for replacement?
Pretty hard to bend that shaft. I am not a fan of aftermarket fan blades. I would use an OEM if it is available.
