We are continuously developing new cities just next to older ones. But is this actually feasible in the long term? I mean, is the government ensuring that local flora and fauna aren't being affected? Are we making sure that these new cities are better planned and don’t face issues like water scarcity in the near future, similar to Bangalore? Are we developing these cities just for the sake of expansion, or are we ensuring that it is sustainable development? Maharashtra is building a third Mumbai, but what about the first Mumbai? Its infrastructure is crumbling, pollution is approaching Delhi’s levels, and plastic waste is a major problem. Even though we are developing new cities like GIFT, Mumbai 3.0, etc., what about the root causes that are destroying our older cities? Delhi is now unlivable, most Indian cities have an AQI index above 170, roads are in poor condition, and industries are engaging in unplanned construction. Pollution is increasing day by day due to unchecked industrial emissions, massive deforestation, and the failure to implement strict environmental laws. Law and order are in shambles-corruption is rampant at every level, from politicians to local authorities, making it nearly impossible to bring real change. Illegal constructions flourish, traffic laws are ignored, and crime rates in many cities are soaring due to weak law enforcement. At the same time, our education system is stuck in the past. Even prestigious institutions like IITs and NITs are still teaching outdated curricula, failing to equip students with the latest technological and industrial advancements. Instead of fostering innovation, our national universities produce graduates who struggle to compete on a global level. Meanwhile, Western countries are moving forward with AI, quantum computing, and cutting-edge research, while India lags behind, burdened by bureaucracy and inefficiency in its education policies. We are not addressing the root of the problem in this nation, and the world is mocking us because of it. What’s the point of building new cities if we can’t even manage the ones we already have? Instead of blindly expanding, we should focus on solving pollution, fixing local infrastructure, and enforcing law and order in our existing cities. Until then, development is nothing but a facade, hiding the real issues India refuses to face.
Real issue is population, all the challenges you listed are directly related to over-population in tier 1 cities and new cities are created to distribute the population of existing overburdened cities. It is as simple as that.
