The entire project being displayed in 1024 textures on an early 7th gen console game was incredibly aspirational. The Xbox 360 architecture used unified RAM and the game isn't CPU intensive so if there wasn't a Ps3 port I imagine we would have seen far better fidelity. It is incredibly difficult to release ports of significant quality differences. Konami and the platforms wouldn't have approved that in 2008. Remember these games are no longer 4:3. There's far more screen space and several PBR textures going into each object. There's also HDRI lighting and SS reflective surfaces. A lot of games from this era going for realism look muddy because they were trying to push new tools developed around 2-8 GB machines through 500 MB. This is the last era of great game optimization IMO. Afterwards we just watched projects balloon out of control using needlessly complicated geometries and shaders.
this makes way more sense, like....his younger outfit has that default retail (bieber/emo) haircut....and and this his older version, have a military cut...nice.

Thank you for sharing this beta-footage. It's always interesting to see how a game looked in early stages. 😎
Great work! Unfortunately, even the final PS3 build of Homecoming is quite the downgrade compared to the 360 version. At least it's less buggy than the PC version. Also, is it me or some of the costume variations use the hair from the early 2007 builds?
Why does Alex look better design then the Alex we got? Also I feel the story would have been ok with a few rewrites and it was a standalone title without Silent Hill name.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing! 😊 But isn't there also supposed to be an early build of Homecoming where Alex is voiced by Nolan North, and there is supposed to be an Hunter he interacts with or something like that? At least, I remember hearing some audios with Nolan North and the Hunter once, I also remember the tape scene at 7:13 being done with his voice.
Great video!I remember seeing a video narrated in German, and it showed Alex walking to his house during the day( looked like afternoon/early morning) and fighting against Lurkers. The streets were covered in fog and he had the shorter hair. I can't find it anywhere. I just posted a video about my favourite levels in Homecoming, did you like the game when it was released? It's not perfect but I'm quite fond of it ❤
Thanks a lot! I also noticed that the early Heavy Rain build you uploaded contains a prerendered cutscene of Ethan being underwater The underwater part has been mentioned in this video ua-cam.com/video/6Jp2_QB3U08/v-deo.htmlsi=PaHU2r0fKy_yDe1F&t=71 but I've never seen it anywhere else before
i dont know how to do it. But there is a way to walk through a wall using the alien pistol. If its possible to trigger that glitch in this build. you could attempt to go through the bookcase
Alex beta design with the military haircut is much better than the final design which makes him look very generic. I don't know why fans wanted him to look more generic?
Alex looks better in the beta than in the final version. Why did they change him? Also how did they make a PS3 game look worse than a PS2 game that came out 7 years prior?? I played SH2 in High School and was amazed by the graphics. This game looks like it was made on a PS One almost. It's complete garbage.
Im not sure about it looking like a PS1 game lmao but the game does look a bit too smooth, almost like it's missing layers of the rendering. SH2-4 had a way better aesthetic to work within their limitations of the PS2
Ps1 ?! Really I never know ps1 had better level design than ps2 actually this game had graphics better than the older but they get wrong with the text cods in the body plus look do the first dead space 2008 and most of first ps3 games they looks less realistic because they never who to coding it for the skin in the hairstyle if silent hill homecoming was made in 2009-2013 you going to see it with the evil within graphics or dead space 3 but whatever Alex graphics looks good they never did good work with the evil woman only which made you feel she was from older game
@@skybluenerd219 actually the team thos game care about the level design and the monsters more than the human, but I really enjoyed the game , the scariest one is sh2 and sh4
Some of the 3D artists commented on this; they were struggling with the new hardware and use of multiple textures. The engine wasn't optimized at the time for normal, AO, specular and roughness maps. They had to pull back on their initial vision. In particular they were struggling with the Ps3 port because it had much less RAM than the Xbox 360.
It's so nice to know I wasn't seeing things when I noticed short hair Alex during the retail build loading screens.
You can find some old screenshots probably a pre release trailer
Good quality content, good editing and narration , writing.
Never expected this .

Wow!
I think Alex actually looks better in the beta than on release
He looks older and crazy
Whoa, great content. Honestly I think this design of Alex works a little better than the black haired one.

I don't know if you noticed or not, but Judge Holloway also had her beta hairstyle in this gameplay!
Great work!

For sure. The cop one used his beta haircut

wow i didn't know that great content man 👏🏼
Liked and subscribed!!!! I love silent hill and exploring beta builds!!!!

I wasn't a huge fan of this when it released. I just enjoy documenting pre-release material and builds.
Apropos German... The German edition of this game has some hilariously bad censoring.
Thanks a lot!

I did attempt it, but I couldn't get it to work.
Game so underrated and awesome
Have you tried using speedrunning techniques to access the inaccessible areas?
yes, but they didn't work. Either I'm not good at the technique, or they don't work in this build.
Great video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
hey mate, can you pass me the mod that you use to replace elena with chloe in uncharted 4
Hey love your channel you think you can get your hands on a sly 2 or sly 3 build with debug symbols
Hey man I saw your video from 7 years ago about the ps2 tool dev kit. Do you still have it or maybe an update? I’ve just picked one up myself

Better game than Downpour.
both were crap

I found this game looks like silent hill more than RE3.5 aka sh2 ramek

Maybe they were going for Dean’s look in Supernatural at the time for Alex? I see some similarities
