The many years of experience you find in PDT crews is testament to the quality of their operations. The Dash was a fantastic airplane. I'm sad to see it go but it's great to see it get such a fitting tribute. Keep up the great work, Piedmont. Clear skies and smooth landings!
I remember going to my local airport in the late 90s/early 2000's before they got rid of the observation deck (room with windows after 9/11) to watch all the planes, and the Dash 8 was the king at that airport (pretty much all regional flights). I specifically remember Northwest Airlink that operated the most out of that airport (KCAK), and they were my favorites to watch. Sad to see it go but glad to see Piedmont gave it a proper send off!
Damn. I can’t believe how lucky I am for flying the American Q200 last year and the United Express Q200 twice the year before. My favorite plane! Best sound!!!
These always gave me a bumpy ride, and I'm no fan of turbulence. That said, there was nothing like that moment when you're looking out the window and you can see the landing gear deploying. Very unique and sad to see it go!
harry mccc - Was just gonna say the same! WestJet Encore has a brand new fleet of 45 strong, Air Canada Express also has 80+ Dash 8's and Porter Airlines flies 29 Q400's.
Soon the Dash 8 legacy will be passed to Viking Air Ltd. of Victoria, B.C. Viking currently builds all previous de Havilland Canada aircraft from the DHC-2 Beaver to the Dash 7, while its parent company owns the plant in Downsview, Ontario where the Q400 is built.
AWC The Q400 was a great turboprop aircraft, but I don't think Eagle won't want to order the prop planes because they think the slower than regional jets.
Preston Snowbird they’re still slower - certain shorter routes make up for it due to better routing and approach performance. I think customer perception is a big factor, most hate the noise and the prop “image” of these things. I love it though :)
They are leaving Piedmont and American Eagle - the venerable Dash 8, most assuredly, is NOT leaving operations in the world! As a matter of fact the early model Dash 8s have never been in more demand worldwide - with an increasing price tag to match for used models! I guarantee due to the extreme versatility; the Dash 8 series will still be flying strong in 2050...
Never had a bad flight on a Dash. I hated how hot the cabin got on the tarmac during the summer and overall prefer the CRJ for regional flights. But to know that I'll never have the engines of the Dash lull me to sleep again... I'm actually gonna miss the ole girl.
This company was founded as Henson Airlines in 1962. It was acquired by the original Piedmont Airlines in 1983. Ten years later, US Airways changed its name to Piedmont Airlines to protect the Piedmont brand name.
Yes and no. Piedmont was bought out by US Airways in '89. Piedmont had a regional subsidiary called Henson Air that US Airways rebranded to Piedmont to protect the trademarks.
Good riddance. As a passenger I avoided US Airways whenever possible because the Dash8 was such a miserable experience, and you couldn't fly US anywhere on the East Coast without most or all of your trip being on this wretched airplane. The E145 was a big improvement in the passenger experience.
Ha - the interior of the Dash 8, most assuredly, is wider than the interior of the comparable Embraer - AND any CRJ! Same diameter fuselage (actually the SAME ) fuselage - but a thicker interior makes for a narrower airplane inside... places like Jazz in Canada who fly the CRJ and the Dash 8, jokingly refer to the Dash 8 as the "widebody"...
The Dash8 is an awesome plane. You folks were very lucky to have had the chance to work with them.
Steven Miller propeller planes are a rare thu I need to fly on porter of O’Hara or horizon air

The dash was such a wonderful airplane! Sad to see it leave! We love you dash 8!
Worked on them in ORF from 92 to 99 great company great airplane great people
Flew with Malcolm...Great guy and Captain...
Was there a video on the E145 Delivery? Would have been nice to see and hear how the folks at Piedmont are adjusting to the jets
Sad to see them go they looked great maybe not the biggest plane but certainly the best prop
and a great aircraft for piedmont

Evan S Thanks I’ve never flown on the dash-8 but as I’m typing this I’m at the airport waiting to get on an American 787
Evan S maybe in the us but in Canada they are flying strong
D.C.A 91 I would like to know how was it? The smallest plane I ever flew on was a erj-145 and the biggest plane I ever flew on was the 787
D.C.A 91 only a 737-200! They were retired decades ago!

its very sad its going away
I flew from Fresno to Vegas on this
No! Not the dash 8! 😭 I’ve seen too many planes leave.
such a neat video and airplane what are yall replacing them with?
Matthew Neathery the E145
It's sad to see a dash 8 aircraft leave
There's Q400 go get it
D.C.A 91 for sure
Fly the Q ....yqt to yyz...way more than I should....... great plane!
Why didn't you guys get the Q400?
AWC The Q400 was a great turboprop aircraft, but I don't think Eagle won't want to order the prop planes because they think the slower than regional jets.
AWC but the Q400 have a jet-like speed.
Preston Snowbird they’re still slower - certain shorter routes make up for it due to better routing and approach performance. I think customer perception is a big factor, most hate the noise and the prop “image” of these things. I love it though :)

Not only that, the Dash 8's legacy lives on in the Bombardier Q400.

CAn you play the last flight between CLT and ROA?
How come the plane doesn’t say piedmont on the side?
Dirtman707 Piedmont flies as American Eagle
I'm confused... as growing up I remember flying Piedmont with my family. I thought it ceased operations in the 80's.
This company was founded as Henson Airlines in 1962. It was acquired by the original Piedmont Airlines in 1983. Ten years later, US Airways changed its name to Piedmont Airlines to protect the Piedmont brand name.
do wonder if American will order new ATR 72-600 series? I Remember traveling to military bases on ATR from Dallas to Sill or Hood.
Why dd they replace them with the CS100 or the CRJ 900?
Erj145's they can't fly the CS100 cause of scope and the CRJ 900 is to much plane
Didn't piedmont disappear in 1989?
Yes and no. Piedmont was bought out by US Airways in '89. Piedmont had a regional subsidiary called Henson Air that US Airways rebranded to Piedmont to protect the trademarks.
algorithm Thanks for the info!
Feels bad man
Is that a Q400? Don't bombardier still make these?
D.C.A 91 oh
And isn't Piedmont American eagle?
D.C.A 91 oh what about American Airlines. And is Piedmont still operating plane with their own livery?
Piedmont airlines Doing business as American Eagle
I miss Alaskan q400 and American
That B one Big Hot-Dog with a couple of Big O" Tractor's Pulli'n "U along !By-By Old Friend: YYZ-Planker.
Rip turbo props
But Dash 8 is cramped. Embraer has more space.
Which Emb?
Dad:
Why you crying so dang loud?
bye dash 8 :(
F to pay respects

I doubt passengers will miss them
Passengers love them as they are more comfy than the crap from Embraer! Pilots love them as they are easy and smart to fly😊
Sean Latimer passengers also hate them cause they’re loud as hell and are tiny to a point where you feel squeezed for the whole flight.
I'm 6'4" and I'd rather fly in a Dash 8 any day over most other planes. including heavy's.
Sean Latimer isn’t that why there CRJs?
Ha - the interior of the Dash 8, most assuredly, is wider than the interior of the comparable Embraer - AND any CRJ!
