I was at the event and unfortunately your analysis was hard to hear, by no fault of your own. I’m not sure how that could have been improved, but what I can tell you is that of what I could hear and see on your face before each set, you were a completely different analyst, in the best way possible. Someone else said “incisive” and I totally agree. I would also add convicted and studied. It was just clear as day that you had done your homework overall and going into each set and individual match. Truly well done and I hope you feel better soon!
PBM basically said on stream he knew Athena didnt fit the style of support Genetics wanted to play and they knew it would go jungle if they let it through and they counter picked the Aphro for it basically. He would just link to Dardez and frontline and everyone else would stand out of taunt range and then Aphro ult any follow up to the taunt and then kiss and turn on the athena and kill her
If you're personally interested in Dragon's draft choices PBM did a pretty deep dive during his worlds vod review earlier this week :). He definitely talked specifically about that Athena jng pick.
@donsimon3754 My apologies just checked and his (Twitch) Vods are sub only. But I'm pretty sure he said he'd upload to yt later. I just so happened to catch most of it live.
Iirc he said that in scrims Onis were playing lots of tank jngs (including Athena) and that they weren't worried about it, despite the Dragons not doing the best in said scrims. He emphasized multiple times in the reviews that in matchups vs tank jngs (eg Screammmmmm's Surtr, the Athena jng) they were focused on playing the long game and winning trades and that those characters didn't have any real threat to poke backline, so they weren't generally very bothered by them. They were often much more concerned with the enemy mid's pick if they expected tank jng.
I don't recall if he said anything about whether or not they practiced the Athena.
I feel bad for Myflin not getting to speak after game 5 finals because of the nose bleed. Sucks that he missed the final desk segment of smite 1 and the interviews on the stage
Also, hearing you talk about game 5 of the finals gave me chills all over again. I think there might be an opportunity for HiRez to put some of that audio out for public consumption and bring PBM and the dragons in for additional commentary. It could be something called “A Master Class on Leadership in ESports” or something. Like an ESPN 30 for 30 or 60 minutes.
Hearing you on the desk was the best part of worlds for me
The effort you put in showed! Been watching since launch and this was genuinely my favorite worlds ever and the commentary + analysis was a large part of that
I personally think your effort this year was noticed! Deskwork from the whole group was INCREDIBLE!
I thought the extra prep really showed. You were still your usual self but it felt like a much more polished shift you put in. Glad my first worlds in person was a banger.
I really hope you continue to make content even with the absence of the SPL, even if it is just a duel/CS stream here and there. Thanks for all you do Pol and I hope you feel better soon.
I loved your analysis this year, great job :) looking forward for the future of this community
IIRC PBM said that Cherryo had recorded some (maybe all) of their comms at SWC and Mike was playing some of them over his review of the SWC games. You could ask if he would share them for a demo review or some such
Thanks for the effort! Hope you feel better!
You were great at SWC! Everyone had such a blast in chat :)
Ronny had the ability to play yemo like every game and never did lmfao. A known Genetics picks, a top tier Ronny pick, just... not played...
Solo lane has been largely auto attack trading, Bellona and Osiris seemed to make HUGE impacts, and then countered and annoyed by a Nike (which Fineo played the day before in quarters) and then we just see Cu Chullain, the Ama game 3 was actually a pretty sick pivot to give them some late game again, but they let Genetics play yemo and picked Aphro, Vulcan, Nemesis, hell even Ullr who CAN get over the wall isn't great at dealing dives lmfao LIKE WHAT ARE YOU DOIIIIING MAN YOU CANT PICK ALL THIS INTO A WALL.
So, SO frustrating to see as I really wanted to see Fineokay get his first and the other levis bois match Jarc in rings... but instead they got draft diffed, unlucky.
@@gutierrezsolisemmanuelalej1314 yea really not sure what the thought process really was. Maybe they just wanted to play what they practiced and hoped it threw someone off guard? They literally played the Onis in a 5 game set to get to worlds, how they thought it would ever work I have no idea lmfaoooo. Feelsbadman. I don't dislike the Onis or the ferryman, but Dragons vs Levi's final would have been the better storyline as the first year the core PBM, PCat, and Fineo split up, and somehow they still all reunite in the finals. Unfortunate though.
Those drafts were so bad. Like watching the set between Dragons and Ferrymen before theirs, it was so obvious how strong osiris and bellona were on solo side and game 1 they locked in Cerb.
@@BosSoxFan15 yep. I love those guys but idk how they looked at their drafts and noticed how none of the gods really aligned with the other games, both the other games at the main worlds stage, and other games for worlds quals since the game didn't change THAT much for which warriors were played, and changed NOTHING. It's kinda wild man. At least play the stuff you've always been the best at then, why is Ronny not forcing yemo bans? He was so good on it it was basically perma banned FOR YEARS from him 😂
Love you Paul, get well ❤️🩹
2:10 season 7 PK had 5 game sets against Radiance in the semis and against Ghost in the finals
Thanks for putting this out here while dying Paul. It was a nice listen with my breakfast
I caught Hayzer's worlds flu thru this video
You popped off. Just so much more insightful than the normie casters
Feel bettor pol, was great to meet you again this year ❤
I'm glad I got to see you!
Honestly for Ferrymen I think the side lane picks let them down. I wasn't impressed with Ishtar the entire tournament and Ama was fine until she was getting ran down by Bellona. Some support changes too, I don't rate Sobek for the late game. I was very excited to see the Freya, I even called it once they locked in Rat and Set, but Cyclone kinda inted a fight near pyro and it lost them all the momentum they had at the time, he ran right up to 3 of them to hit them with his Freya melee autos lol.
For Warriors, I wanted to know how you felt about the Gilga priority. I think the only game where Pani looked like the monster he is was on the Susano in game 4, he did good on Gilga in game 3 too but I think that was facilitated by the Khepri who saved him in a couple of important fights and let him just do what he wanted.
There are those who keep blaming the Ymir pick and that one wall, that's troll as hell. That wall was 1 CM from saving a guy that was already dead, it was a play he had to go for. Fine line between best play of the tournament and getting reddit posts about how bad your wall was fr.
I actually meant to talk about Panitom - I thought he was far more impressive on the Susano and the Thor, would have much rather seen more of those
Is this the most one-sided a crowd has ever been at Worlds? I feel like 99.9% pf the arena was rooting for the Dragons. There was cheering whenever the Dragons did any tiny thing but when the Warriors were on top the crowd seemed to be absolutely quiet. When the crowd woke up between games 4 and 5 it just felt like the set was over.
Get well soon pol!
Great job on the desk, but the way you kept passing that pen back and forth was driving me crazy😅
Heh, I did wonder if the fiddling was annoying, but because no one ever said anything I just kept doing it! I'll keep that in mind for next time :D
Was fun watching you on the desk. How about that Pele though!
Feel better Paul
The dragons beat those I can’t ending and sieging allegations what a time to show up! ❤ nice send off for smite until hopefully smite 2
Pandacat's ullr was so useless its insane
We noticed you didn't have a laptop the whole time, we were making jokes every desk segment 😂
Thanks for making this even tho u sound you’re on your death bed. Awesome job at worlds
Feel better
Thought u were great on the desk
S7 worlds has Game 5 finals and semis, PK vs Radiance and PK vs Ghost
Is it Peanut Butter and Mayo?
Dardez = reigning World's MVP Smite champion for the rest of time. 🎉
I remember saying game 5 in the finals that if the dragons dont prio coast they lose. Big L for the warriors letting coast get his #1 pick.
Feel better Hayzer!
Mouse over the different tabs in the end match lobby and scroll up and down
coast winning worlds his rookie year! have anyone else won their rookie year?
I'm pretty sure when epsilon won season 2 that was some of their rookie years, adapting, dimi, and yammyn were rookies while raffer and emil weren't, but coast is I think the first player since to rookie win swc, and the last
pol
Joel
Honestly i think everyone drafted poorly including the dragons. You can purely look at drafts (outside erlang mid) and predict who wins. Some real bad reads on the meta like anhur ban/pick prio. Also the best jg being thor/susano yet saw very little susano.
Great job at worlds Pol! Really enjoyed watching
Playback speed x1.75
If dardez would have choked on erlang mid, that man would have been the con artist of the century.
Fortunately, he didn't
Season 7 I think PK went 5 against ssg and ghost
And PK went 5 against Radiance AND against SSG. They literally played 10 games just to get to finals and go to 5 again. Absolutely ridiculous
Paul cannot win without Zapman. But Zapman can and Has won without Paul.
The Coast Hachiman was the ScaryD Achilles this year. Bro just kept going back to it and it shmacked.
pol
Thought your analysis was really punchy and incisive this year, i was looking forward to desk segments for once with you and bobby there
