I think the trio of houses above West Point is the best base. It's a house in a region surrounded on one side by water, which prevents zombies, and on the top there are only trees, which means there are very few zombies since their focus is urban. There are 3 large houses and one with a fireplace, surrounded by high railings and a sea behind the house. You have infinite water, infinite tree and a fireplace. On the other side is a hut with fishing equipment, so endless food too. 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a garage and two floors. It's simply perfect, it breaks the fun of the game. Even playing with settings with a high number of zombies you will hardly find one. The only downside is that there is no gas station nearby and easily accessible.

The easiest base i found is the rich neighborhood in Muldragh, easy to baricade the exits, plenty of space, nearby forest and lakes and a lower population density compared to the rest of the town.
The most rewarding base I had to date is the Food Market in West Point, right across the street of the Mega Mart. There are two apartements upstairs with roof access trough a window in one of them for farming above the post office(also for putting the generator outside in a place zombies can't reach). I baricaded the whole parking lot behind it once, the population density seems lower on that side of the building than the main road.
On another note, I'm currently trying a Rosewood Firestation base for the first time and I get more zombies than I did right in the middle of Westpoint I swear. The building is great, but the hordes are just neverending!

The Louisville train station rail yard is a very cool base.
-It's almost completely fenced with exception to two openings.
-nice buildings for living and storage. may need to steal some furniture, but has a lot of potential.
    - has exactly 20 gas pumps nearby so you should never have a problem running out
    - lots of zombies are in the area sadly
    - not a lot of grass either so digging dirt will be necessary for long term survival.

My favorite base right now is the apartments south west of Louisville Mall, just across the car park. It's got medical supplies, gas station, gun store, storage lot and fire department nearby. Surrounded by parking lots so you're likely to easily find a car. You can turn the entire top level into a penthouse once you find a sledgehammer and can even plant crops on any of the balconies. Very secure because of the way the ground floor carpark is built and it's incredibly rare for a zombie to make it up the first flight of stairs.

On the topic of other locations, while perhaps not the penultimate ideal location, it is definitely a fantastic safe house. That is the radio station north of Muldraugh and east of McCoys logging. Surrounded by woods and high fences, only one access road, and one point of access to the yard of the fenced area. While there being two trailers and a small shed as the only buildings, not much to look at granted, they can be easily built up and even combined once you’ve a sledge and carpentry leveled up. I enjoy conjoining the two trailers and then creating a second level fully walled and roofed just because. Easy access to trapping and foraging for sustenance, as well as a great spot to retreat to if you’re looting in Muldraugh and get overwhelmed or worse, cut off from your escape route/vehicle. A bit of a hike to get to on foot, but danger is easily lost in the woods. Initial barricading can be done easily by hitting McCoys logging, abundant supplies for building right away.
I use a ton of map mods. And the one and only Raven Creek has a crap ton of locations for ideal bases. Granted, half of them are on the furthest corner west, having to get through fences or a checkpoint to get to them. It may be prudent to have multiple locations, as many UA-cam movies show, they leave their bases to set up in another town. Don’t be afraid to leave your first base in favor of changing the scenery.

My most favorite in Riverside is actually the Post - you have the river very close as well as you are in middle of the town, gas station is pretty close as well, and to top it up, you have a forest near as well - what's more to want? Oh, right - you have a large balcony and roof to garden if that's what you want ❤

The Ameriglobe office Building in Louisville is a great place for a base in the city for vanilla play as it is easily reached by new spawn (WestPoint) characters because it is just inside the military blockade. Also having 4 levels, roof access, woodlands and and a nearby water feature it covers every possible requirement for survival.

    Some more good spots:
My personal favorite, which I didn't see here mentioned - *The Rusty Rifle* tavern. It's located in Muldraugh, has a gas station nearby, 2 storage lots and plenty of forests for foraging. I love it, because it is away from the middle of the town of course. Also I just like tavern type places like this or Twiggys!
If you want to reside in West Point, I highly suggest you the place called "West Point Mansions". Basically the three houses on the wery north of city. One of the houses has a big ass gate around it, there is a lake for fishing+water. Plenty of forests for materials and foraging, and low population of zeds. The only con for me is that you MUST have a car to get there, because it's far from city and it would take so much time walking from there to city for resources.
If you want to reside in Louisville, then I suggest you any of the houses near the river. They all have those cool big gates, a fireplace inside.
These are some additional places I usually use! :)

It's not so far of a walk to get into town from the mansions. I've had a character there before without a car. It takes about an in-game hour, maybe an hour and a half, to walk into town.
If your only goal is to survive, it's almost for sure the "best" location. You'll die of boredom, perhaps.
If you can get enough supplies to survive through first winter, you can abuse cooking to get the proteins you need for second winter. The rest of the time it's easy to survive with farming, fishing, and foraging, without ever having to worry about zombies.

For West Point, my favourite is actually the two apartment units right above the grocery store. Just block off of destroy the stairs, and you can use escape rope to get in and out. There's a huge roof top for growing crops, and you can even build staircase to reach other neighbouring rooftops for a massive farm in the sky. Excellent for getting around the highly populated WP downtown area traveling on the rooftop like a super hero.

My most recent playthrough I have set up a base in the gas station to the East of Muldraugh, just next to the trailer park. Took some time to clear out the surrounding area but I had all of the logs I could want from the nearby forests to build log walls. It's very centralized for the entirety of the map. It was, however, a lot of work building the walls. Great video 🤘🤘

some have already said but, i really like the abandoned factory west of riverside, near all the old homes. you have a gas station directly to your northeast and, of course living right next to the river for fish. it has a large parking garage you could easily expand if you like hoarding vehicles (which PZ player isn't a pack rat) also i love accessible rooftops because EZ rain gathering and gardening. it's probably not the most practical because it's pretty isolated and maybe too large, but i just have so many nostalgic memories basing there, especially when i was a new player. i used to always make it my mission to base there. i remember one time i was just sleeping peacefully in that base when i heard the unmistakable sound of a window shattering downstairs. it was a special sort of dread waking up knowing i'd have to go down and say hi to company, lmao. that's one of the disadvantages of larger bases. this run i'm currently doing i'm looking for a smaller base that would more realistically fit one person (although the thought of a gigachad survivor just taking over an entire air base or something is fun). not sure where yet but cool vid :)

  • @SweenyMarc
    @SweenyMarc 8 місяців тому +4

For me, the best base location needs easy access to water, gas, trees. Low local zed pop, or high fences to make it easy to manage the locals. Close enough to shops you don't have to drive to loot. Ideally a prebuilt building with minimum 2 floors and few ground floor windows/doors.
As it's virtually impossible to get all of that...
In March Ridge (not that you want to be in March Ridge) the partially fenced in terraced blocks are okay.
In Rosewood I prefer the gated houses to the NW if I'm not going for the fire station or the northern gas station. Although I always go for the fire station or the northern gas station.
The Rusty Rifle is a favourite if I want to start in Muldraugh.
Twiggy's or the Guns & Ammo in West Point
The factory storage warehouse, west of Riverside is good if you can clear the locals out, but a bit isolated.
For Riverside I prefer the bar on the outskirts, just east of the scrapyard or the Riparian Entertainment bar by the river at the north edge of town if I want to do a big refurb job.
The Riverside Boat Club is surprisingly good. A few too many windows on the river side of the building but you don't get many zeds on that edge and otherwise it is quite easy to secure.
If you're ready to base up in Louisville, it probably doesn't matter much where you pick, but I like the baseball factory.
The Brac Brick Factory is pretty cool if you want a secure spot to build from.
Actually basing at a gas station can be good.
The one at the north of Rosewood takes some work to clear the local zeds but can be easily secured by parking cars around it and other than a lack of water I really like it.
If you're willing to build your own base, the drive-in cinema near the gas station south of Rosewood is a good location. Nearby water, gas and trees. it is isolated though.
The Fallas Lake gas station ticks a lot of boxes. But that town gets used up quite quickly. Maybe a decent starter, which can work as a midway rest stop later in game.
Ruby Gas is pretty great if you are ready for a bit of a challenge. Really solid spot for preparing for a Louisville raid

I always build my first base in the lower left corner gated community of Muldraugh. Ppl say Muldraugh is a harder spawn but I find it pretty easy. Just stay off the main road that goes along the top of town. Only time I go there on foot would be to go to the book store. Rest of town is pretty manageable. Once I have a base established there I branch out and start bases in other towns.

In the far top left corner of the map, left of riverside, there is a general store, fishing store, and restaurant. The general store has two stories and a rather nice living area and storage area on the second floor. The area borders the river and is also surrounded by trees. Very few zombies in the area and a gas station just quick walk away. In the abandoned town just below it are several wood furnaces. Following the road down a long ways there is a pit stop with another gas station, gun store, and restaurant, but loads of zombies. Great place for secluded long term survival.

Muldraugh Motel right next to the gas station. 2 entrances to the courtyard can be gated and forst windows barricaded. You know have a courtyard for crops; stairs that can be knocked away (cheese) and use the entire second floor to live in and utilize individual rooms for different stuff (kitchen, infirmary, workshop, etc...). Rooftop garden is massive. Knock out the corner walls on the second floor for guard posts. Second floor large balcony is perfect for solar panels and, with some work; the second floor of the lobby is open space and floors can be added for a MASSIVE storage room. It has so far been my favorite place and had a blast living there with my friends for months. 3 of us really only used half the building so a large group could easily live there with plenty of space and not even really have to use the first floor.
Also comes with a full kitchen.
Downside is you're right in the middle if Muldraugh so alot of early game clearing has to happen or you'll get overrun real quick.

I'd suggest the Abandoned Factory in abandoned town west from the riverside, pretty much no one mentions it since its so far away from the biggest intrest points that not many people know about it
    - Biggest advantage of it, its that it has barely any zombie nearby (if u play without map mods for example ofc)
    - It has nearby gas station
    - Its huge when it comes to space for vehicles or just overall storage
    - Is pretty close to river itself for some fishing
    - And is good location for a base when new cities west finally will be added
Altough only issue is time to travel anywhere from it really and probably the forgotten and destroyed looks it has

    Some other neat base locations:
Westpoint- the office building between the church and the post office/hardware store. It has external stairs/fire escape and if you can block or destroy the internal stairs you will have an excellent 3 story base with a terrace on the top floor. You can wall off the external stairs for extra security too.
Riverside- the Riparian bar/restaurant next to the river and behind the motel. It’s next to the river for easy fishing and the upstairs has an outdoor dining balcony great for safe farming. You will have to block or destroy the stairs to stop Zeds from getting to you. There is a back stairway through the kitchen that you can block off or use.
Rosewood(just outside of town)- leaving Rosewood heading northeast, the blacktop road will end and you will have to veer right onto a lighter looking gravel road. A short distance on your left is a dirt road/path that leads to 8 houses and a small Army outpost. I think the houses are officer and NCO quarters for the troops there and have food, and weapons sometimes. The Army barracks usually has good loot there too, and you’ll find boots, knives, ammo, pistol magazines, M-16 magazines, and other military gear, even a military backpack! In one of my games, my character even found a “guard Zed” in an Army uniform with an M-16, 1911 pistol, and military backpack. I only ever found him there, and only once. The Zed count is pretty low right there, and there is a farm warehouse a short distance down the road.
Louisville- the Mounted Police Training building in the bottom left corner of Louisville park. Honestly it’s the best base in Louisville! I’ve survived longer there than any other place on the map! The building has an open courtyard in the center, which is perfect for farming and mechanic work. The building has only 4 windows and an archway on one side which fits a double gate perfectly! The building has a small armory, an office with a radio, a small bathroom and 2 storage rooms with nice crates and shelves. The area surrounding the building has a small white picket fence, 3 large water barrels, stacks of logs, and a small pond for fishing. The park perimeter has a lot of high fences, so huge hordes won’t wonder in once you’ve cleared it. There is also an antique oven in the park’s visitor’s center in the upper right corner of the park, but clear the park before you try to bring it back.
Within walking distance of the Mounted building you will find: a pawnshop(with upstairs apartment), a medical center, an animal vet office, a police station, a big garden center(with growing plants), a tire center, a small mall, a big Gigamart, a small bookstore, various restaurants, 2 gas stations, and lots of houses with garages! I’ve never survived to the winter anywhere else!

The gated community in Muldraugh, between the church and a grove, is a good place to set up. All houses are two-stories and very rich. There are about 4 tool sheds and always at least one generator. Cars also common. Lots of barbecues with propane. It's not too hard to clear or drive the zombies outside, larger groups near the exits towards the town center. But the woods are usually clear. I set up in a house that has pink flowers outside and a tool shed. It only needs blocking of two entrances and has a lot of space, also it's closer to the woods so noise will rarely attract anything. Also it's located where I can make more layers of defenses until outside the community. Ain't that hard to get there from usual spawn points, and even then you can use the tall fences to escape from the horde you attracted while getting there. Ah and there's a lake in the grove, a bit far.

  • @DruidGoblin
    @DruidGoblin 28 днів тому

The apartments above the food market in Westpoint, you demolish the floor after the stairs or the staris themselves, clear the apartments, and you got one apartment to live the other for storage and you have access to the roof next door where you can put water collectors and plant food and put a generator.
You basically become inaccessible to the hordes and if you find enough materials, weapons and food you can lay low there for weeks and use an escape rope to get in and out, just make sure you have enough sheets and nails in surplus cause Zomboids can eat a few here and there.
That's my main setup when playing in that section of the map.

I built a Motte on top of the center two storage units of riverside. The entire length of the buildings, 4 stories high. It took a lot of time as it was on a multiplayer server as a base build competition. Luckily to save on time the host was spawning planks and nails, so even with that it took a long time to build. The entrance was a double door gate, with 6 stairs to get into it. Th first floor (on top of the two storage units) I built a porch, and surrounded the foundation with log wall just for the aesthetics, make it look more like a wooden keep. As well as the first floor was a sort of feast hall, a hearth hall. I did not finish it, but I finished the barebones of it. As in I did not build out rooms on the other levels, but it was completely built otherwise, including cool looking parapets at the top. The plan was to utilize the other two storage sections to be the Bailey (Motte and Bailey). As well as build a wall on the outside of the metal fencing and connect them with flooring, to then build the small fence to act as parapets. It was a lot for one person, and a lot of material required. I cannot wait for functional NPCs and factions, a true colony builder at that point. Other than to say you did and could, there’s no point in building a base like that in single player, and I’ve no friends willing to play this game with me on multiplayer. Thanks for reading if you did!

In Louisville if you head past the art gallery, past the awesome pawnshop and butcher shop and then there are some warehouses and a church evacuation site? in there are two residential buildings. one tends to have high spawn the other has a wonderful garbage can and televisions for blocking the stairwell and a little outdoor balcony. don't even need carpentry just block off the staircase with what's there. it even sometimes has a generator. loved that cute little base.

I've enjoyed basing a the Auto Shop just east of West Point (cell 40x23), big building, large garage, just outside of town so it's relatively easy to defend, easy access to both forest and river areas. Takes a little bit of work, but is a nice location.
In Louisville there are a couple of good locations. The small gated community (cell 47x8) is really really easy to defend and even has a small pond.
More of a challenging area, or suited better for multiplayer is the townhouses in cell 44x5. Lots of houses to clear out, but once done you've got a bunch of protection with only one entrance that needs to be protected. Great little garden area in the center as well, and somewhat central to Louisville for looting.

Favorite spot so far is the small Fire Station on the South end of Louisville. It has a back yard that is completely fenced in with high chain-link fences, and upstairs area with beds, bathroom and kitchen, as well as immediate rooftop access for rain collectors. There's also a gas station just down the street, and a whole forest worth of trees nearby.

I've used the fenced up house next to the "house by the lake" along the river by West Point. If you have a car it's not too far from West Point, very few zombies to clear out, fireplace in the house, lots of foraging space in the immediate area, and fishing and water is easily available. Over time hordes of zombies do tend to follow your car back to the base, but I enjoy the occasional base attack. 10/10 base location for me.

Me and my friends settled at the Warehouse outside of Riverside, the one thats nearby the forest, trailer park and Storage Unit.
We have a massive log wallnfortified with aged wrecked, and stripped cars, dumpsters etc, a Garden on the roof and numerous water collectors.
My friend utilises the warehouse first floor for his numerous cars, we have a custom made kitchen, its our pride and joy. 3 months later we are still going strong!

The apartment above the hairdressers in West Point. Yeah I know, it's a hard one to secure but its so well located and if you can lock down the whole building(the small office, the clothing shop, hair dressers, insurance and dentist) its safe. I also build stairs in the apartment across the way(above the insurance) at a point where i can sledge my way through the wall onto the roof of the dentist and have a roof garden.

I tend to prefer one and maybe two story houses. I don't want to carry supplies up many flights and want all the important rooms to be easily accessible. Furthermore I like to stay low to the ground to build and customize on my own terms.
This is why I enjoy the used car/car repair shop near the Louisville Mall. There are always Zombies around, to keep up the danger and threat, its close to everything you could ever want. Has one entrance to worry about, there are a lot of old cars to use for levling mechanics or to move away for farming/construction. Two small buildings, where you can keep everything you need, with the potentail to expand.

I really like the farm houses in Riverside, near the warehouses. Isolated enough that you don't get too much trouble besides the odd stray, plenty of trees around for building and close to the storage lot and gas station while also being reasonably close to riverside for loot runs.

I like the gas station/liqour store in Valley Station. Two two-story buildings with plenty of gas right out the front.
In the same vein is the tiny gas station on the far western edge of the map, past the Riverside farms... there's only one nearby loot point (unless you've modded your map) but you'll have the gas to drive anywhere and there's almost no threats out there.

  • @WakoDoodle

With mods like "workable ladders" and "climb roof" my favourite places are Louisville : Secure Storage (as long as you have enough wood for a fence and a sheet rope) and Louisville : Large Warehouse (which is south-west of the first one). Generally living on the roof.
Granted I picked them when I was in dire need of a base but in the plus side it's in the city and zombies will struggle to climb up to you; you can also have space to build an entire house if you want. The only negative of the Large Warehouse is that zombies can walk up the stairs and drop down; however to get up there takes a lot of pathing itself and by the time they're up there, they always forget where you are and walk back down.
These aren't perfect since helicopters and rain are now your biggest enemy. But if you need a sudden base without any other options; it's a good choice imo.

I'm waiting for the next build to hopefully rope some friends into playing, found a really nice spot that I think will be great for us to take over in Louisville. Cell 44x5, very large, surrounded by houses, all of the houses have a large fenced in backyard that makes up an entire square with only one way in and out of it, the interior of this square is also boxed in with several houses that has a large spacious center that'd be great for doing huge amounts of gardening.

there is a great location in muldraugh that is very easy to clear and only difficult to fortify, but it compensates for being the most peaceful spot ive found at muldraugh.
there is a Tavern southwest most in the corner of muldraugh, ive always made my solo bases there and its excelent for people that have the clausthrobia trait because its really open inside and you dont feel panicked, specific i know but i like the free points. its two stories tall and close to the gas station, you can make lots of noise and it wont atract any zombies, ive only had 1 wandering walker show up at my base and ive been there for half a year in game

The best bases I’d say are the west and east Louisville mansions, they’re 99% fortified and just need to fortify 1% a bit just to secure them. Both have a good source of water and you have Louisville loot outside your doorstep. Specifically the mansions I’m talking about the one next to the brewery and gas station (west) and the one next to the large gated community, fire station and shops (east)

Call me crazy but these days I find it more interesting basing up right in the heart of any given town. Theres a few options I considered like the Muldraugh bank. Basing somewhere along the Muldraugh highway in one of those shops or a gas-station would be a neat challenge too. People often complain about a lack of things to do after the end-game hits and well, part of their problem is basing in the outskirts and rural areas of the game where its too safe. With this that isn't much of a concern as it encourages you to keep active looking for incoming zeds, using your supplies and then finding more to loot.
