D.O. is seriously the most talented yet most humble and authentic kpop idol. He is such an amazing singer and actor. I don't know if you guys know this but D.O. finished his military service last week. He was in the military for 1.5 year. The day of his release he released a live clip of his song That's okay. I really recommend you guys checking that out. The song has a lot of meaning for his fans because the song was first released on the day of his enlistment so after 1.5 years we finally heard him singing it live. Here is some information that might help you to understand the choreography for EXO's "Monster" better. All the pieces of the choreography were designed to help tell a story. So if you know what you are looking for you will see that each move is done for a very specific reason.
If you follow EXO, then you know that the whole concept of the group is that they are supposed to be aliens who are from Planet Exo, and they were sent to Earth on a mission to find and protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force. Each of the members of EXO have a superpower that is unique to them and almost everything that EXO is involved in is part of their storyline and concept.
In "Monster" the choreography has been designed to tell their story and it uses elements of their dance to represent several of the members using their powers. For example, when D.O. makes a gesture with his arms all the members are pulled toward him or pushed away from him because he is using his power of force/strength; When you see Suho in the middle of the group and they have a hold of his arms, he rotates his body around like swirling water because Suho has the power to control water; when Xiumin moves across in front of the rest of the members you will see them all pause as if frozen because he used his power of frost/ice; and when Sehun stands in the middle of the group the other members shuffle around him as if they are creating a windstorm because Sehun controls wind, etc. The part where they sit on the ground is supposed to look like a sundial and it represents the passing of time. As part of EXOs storyline they get their strength and power from an eclipse so they are connected to planetary and solar phenomenon. And, as you noticed, they make an X to represent EXO. This is one of the best examples of how EXO continues their concept and story in everything they do, including in their choreography. Everything, down to the most minute detail, is expertly thought out and planned to always stick to their concept and story.
Also if you notice, at the end when they say "creepin', creepin', creeping," the dance move they are doing is called The Creep, from the iconic 1990s American girl group TLC, which was created for TLC's song "Creep."
Let me explain a little bit of what the song is about. As the English lines in the song say ... They're "Creeping, Creeping Creeping ... Creeping in your heart babe" "You can call me Monster (because) I'm creeping in your heart babe." "She got me goin' crazy." The song's called "Monster," so the words are about acting like a monster: "Don't be afraid, love is the way ... I'm sorry, you make me sooo craaaazzzy, you know you dooooo." LOL You should really watch an MV with subs ua-cam.com/video/CYqoAdWzOms/v-deo.html, or a lyric video if you want to know what the whole song is about.
However, the lyrics of the song really have very little to do with the story in the MV. Because the lyrics in the song tell a different story than the story in the MV. In the song, the members are talking about a girl and they are telling the girl that, "You can call me Monster" because I know I am bad for you and I will ruin you. I know that when we are over that I will have destroyed everything that is good about you, but I don't care because I want you so much that it doesn't matter to me. So ... "Don't be afraid, love is the way ... you can call me Monster ... because I'm creeping in your heart babe." The song is about possessing a girl and using her up and throwing her away in the end, but the MV really is about EXO's origin story and about the fact that they are aliens from Planet Exo who have come to Earth on a mission.
Some say the "girl" that EXO is always singing about and you sometimes see in their MVs is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. And why all their songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl, or how they talk about knowing they are bad news for the girl but they want her anyway and they can't help it, but in the end they know they might destroy her etc. etc. When you think of the girl as the heart of the Tree of Life EXOs story takes on a whole other layer.
Also, "Growl" is not EXO's debut song. "Growl" came out in 2013 and it was the song that shot them into international superstardom, but EXO debuted in 2012 with their song "Mama." If you haven't seen "Mama" you really need to watch both the EXO-K and EXO-M versions in order to understand the group's concept and origin story.
Music award show camera work and audio is notorious for being horrible. The camera people always pan out or focus on the audience during the most iconic or important parts of the choreography and song, so you often miss things. For example, Chen's voice did not crack during his high note, it was a problem with his microphone and the way the audio was produced for the broadcast. But if you see live footage from the show, you will hear that Chen sounds amazing the whole time. Even when Chen is sick with a cold and can barely breath, his vocals sound flawless -- I've seen him pull off amazing performances even with a stuffy nose.

OMG. This is my favorite EXO awards show stage. It shows 3 eras of Exo in the intro.
*Growl:* Korea's Kpop National Anthem. Gave Exo so much popularity.
*Overdose:* Is the finalization of Exo members when they became solid 9. Members finally stopped leaving the group and EXO came back stronger from the tragedy brought by three members who left.
*Call Me Baby:* The song with most awards shows win. Giving EXO a new milestone.

Sadly this is the second to the last attendance of Exo to Music Awards. You see, bts and blackpink was there while Exo is being called "Worldwide Superstar" "No.1 idol group" etc, etc.
The next year, awards show did them dirty. Stole a lot of awards from them.
I guess they(MELON, MNET, AAA) got bored seeing EXO sweeping awards since 2013 and being on top for so long 😂

Chen's voice didn't cracked. It was a technical issue. He is having some problem in his mics. There's a lot of fancam here in yt that you can watch to see that Chen didn't cracked. I mean, it's ok that he cracked since we know it's liveband he's human but the thing is, he didnt.

Chen's voice didn't actually crack. The mic had a problem just as he went for the high note. The fans heard him sing the note perfectly but the audio from the live broadcast sounded like it cracked

@@LaughCryKLife I'm not sure Melon was the one they just arrived for... That was the Mama performance, they had literally landed 4 hours before the Mama performance and only had like an hour to rehearse... There are actually clips of Kai and Sehun discussing and talking over their dance break while the show was going on to finish finalizing their performance ideas.
Yes there's quite technical issues. 1 is when Chen's hit the high note. It wasn't a cracked but mic issue. A lot of fancams can proved it. Chen's really hit it with his powerful belt

Actually they won the best award against the One Direction #1 😭. At that time i was crying my heart out because I am a directioner god 😂 but still I couldn't hate EXO
About Chen's voice, it's a tough thing to dance and sing simultaneously, you need a perfect breath technique, if you messed up by breathing, you can mess up some high notes (not enough breath in, you push the diaphragm too much to pull the high note out and so the note is not accurate)

You seemed a little put off by the crotch grab...you can thank Michael Jackson for that...he made that move the norm in choreography. Asians artists are big fans and his influence shows in their choreos. Lay is an especially big fan of MJ's. Brace yourselves, lol.
