you almost got it with the commentary before the song starts but i actually figured out what trey said just today listening to this in my car. Trey: Wanna play a jammier song? Mike: Play a what song? Trey: A jammier song? Just to get a sound on stage? Mike: Yep! I do! Trey: Do you wanna play waves, cuz we haven't played it in a long time? Trey: You guys are awesome!
There were a few handfuls of people around the outside of the venue listening to this. I remember a jammed out Foam as well. Beautiful version, and the one the following night at the show is a winner too
Wow this is really something else man and I've been listening to these guys 96-2004 then a lot this year.......this cut is spectacular.............so is that Fukowkwa Twist by the way
I almost cried as i beheld the realm of light that the spirits were telling me about on my way to get some food. I knew i was in hell. With my body riddled with the poisons and my death drawing near i shuffled my way home in pain to listen to some phish. Phish would be an astronomically mean band in the realm of light. Thousand times the accuracy, mental capabilities, speed and stamina. We could even have a llama there on stage.
why can't they do more of this at shows instead of warm ups? I mean I loved the bethel shows especially the first 2. But why can't we see a glimpse of some more of this extended stuff? confused.
can someone please play this for the band and make them relisten to it? maybe they would play like this at shows if people weren't chatting away like its a high school reunion
Well, to be fair Dick's and MSG both sported a bunch of quality extended jams, but I know what you mean. There's an intimate quality to this jam that is largely absent from shows these days. I feel like they're going to lay down something similar to this at the festival this year. I can feel it.
Summer's coming - you'll be off the wagon and back up to 4 times a day. There is a cure though - but you have to go to a show ;) ~ Wait sorry, no cure available. All you can do is keep satisfying the urges.
It's sad when they play their best music during the soundcheck...fuckers they proved here that they can bring interesting extended jamming to the stage, yet they make a conscious decision not to even though most of us got into phish because of their jamming.
Gonna try: for pure psychedelia, Walls of the Cave, 2/23/03 (I think? Cincinnati, 2nd night) For p-punk AC/DC Bag 12/30/97, For Uber-melodic phish: Gin from The Great Went. Best Jam I Did Not Attend: Houses in Motion/Seen and Not Seen 10/31/96
On second thought Phish has several "jamming styles", in THIS particular style, the DTE Center Dw/D is the only jam that compares. Like this "Waves", it's Mike-Driven, Phunkless, and very psychedelic. No "shredder" Trey (blubadablubadaWHEEEEEEEblubbada) no whale calls, or brown chicken brown cows.
One could argue this has always been the case... the Coventry soundcheck is probably my favorite piece of music they’ve made (though that’s really hard to choose, the Amsterdam stash, Camden 99 CDT, IT waves/46 days, most of 97 are all super close contenders) but they just don’t go THIS deep and loose during shows
not much substance til the last 10mins or so for me, jams are all about tightness - not length a lot of noodling around until 20mins or so in... still enjoyable - seeing this live would have still been great (if it hadnt been a soundcheck...)
And this was practice, man. We talkin' 'bout PRACTICE.
+pharcyd00 Too funny!
They're the MVP!!
NOT THE GAME, practice.
Wow haha thank you for making me realize the ted lasso bit was from this interview!
I have no excuse as to why I never listened to this before.
Last 10 minutes is beautiful
I only listen to this twice a day. I've weaned my way down from four.
I didn’t think things like this were humanly possible
Probably my favorite jam of all time
you almost got it with the commentary before the song starts but i actually figured out what trey said just today listening to this in my car.

The moment I knew they still had it
the best of Phish 3.0 to date
God damn, Phish.
+Kate Culman Hi!
+Adam Hova Hey there :)
+n garrelli Always appreciate recommendations, haven't listened to either.
+Jim Lahey haha, as far as I know :)

There were a few handfuls of people around the outside of the venue listening to this. I remember a jammed out Foam as well. Beautiful version, and the one the following night at the show is a winner too
My fav lyrics from Tom I do think.......one of phish's best tunez
One of the few songs to actually have GOOD lyrics, imo. Others being Waves, Steam, and Nothing
wow. The end is just beautiful
When someone asks my favorite song, I say bethel waves soundcheck
Wow this is really something else man and I've been listening to these guys 96-2004 then a lot this year.......this cut is spectacular.............so is that Fukowkwa Twist by the way
Are you talking about that live phish release pre Hiatus? That show was incredible I gotta dig that one out! This waves is so sick.
Happy birthday Bethel Waves!
Beautiful!
Thank you.
UNBELIEVABLE!
who's here after the vinyl release
Absolutely, just going through my 5th relisten.
When Mikes bass comes in at 22:40 you know they’ve found the magic
And it is indeed magical.

What does this mean? Lmao
Wow. Holy wow. Absolutely beautiful.
Thank you

@cessclothing that's Page on the low end of one of his many keyboards
DigDug! What a legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Majestic Phish
A Waves for the ages!
This is very good.
20 minutes onwards is CAKEEEEE
im only 5 minutes in.. praise icculus
Praise Icculus.
Trey'z got some excellent whole tone or half steps whole step or something 12 in about.......really nice things get round there oh boy oh yeah
can someone please play this for the band and make them relisten to it? maybe they would play like this at shows if people weren't chatting away like its a high school reunion
part of the reason as to why I stopped going to live shows.
@@mbeutel5854here’s your invitation back and it’s fine Nancy
maybe you should listen to leg 2 from this summer... you may change your mind.
A+
12:20 and on. such energy
Would love to see the guitar tab the last 10 minutes or so. Anyone want to take a stab at it?
damn good !!!
this is so sick. gordon is driving this thing. love the effect at 12:00
Waves is like nothing else
What are some other good sound checks with this sound quality?
Here’s another from 2011: ua-cam.com/video/rzpseAli9GQ/v-deo.html
IT festival sound check .. you can hear the" listening " exercise Trey talks about. It's all impromptu. Magic
Anna Krakovski I love you!
Hope they release some soundcheck sbd's as trey mentioned in rs interview
You're in luck now. This is going to vinyl.
Dope
Sadly Phish has never returned to Bethel Woods💔
Guess what?
This is good because of a lack of pressure and because there's no crowd to change the dynamic by their cheering
You think Phish feels pressure. That's adorable.
yep, i do...they're human
Great point, Uncle Ebenezer.
I agree. I wish they'd stop touring and just hit the studio like the Beatles did. Imagine Phish's 'White Album,' if you will...
how about page's effect @ 15:00?
WOAH. This is awesome. Stick around for the second half! I was at DTE for DWD in 2011 and its BARELY better than this. storing to the favorites
I was at the DTE DWD and this sound check is for sure no.#2 to that jam. anyway, how the heck do I get in to these sound checks?!
I miss the whale calls!
oh my god

Nailed it. The intimate quality.
For similar, check out The SPAC 2014 Fuego, as well as the Philly Fuego:

no one told me this existed - what
Should have played this on 12/31/17 instead of Moma Dance. Not complaining, just say'n.
Gorge 11'. Caspian> Sand. That is all.
Awesome
ball square jam
shit's deep!

go ahead link me a better jam by this band. not gonna happen.
You might be right though, this might be their 30 best recorded minutes.

ty for the ideas! all the best
7/4/00 Jiboo if you like the groove based jams
This is filthy
I hate how these guys support and are trolls for the New world order but damn they're great and know exactly what their role is
??????

@@jda1627 Wilson wants the Lizards vd. Not knowing what's in it and just take it, ".....it's doing things smart people don't do".
Let me give you a tip: chill the fuck out it turns out everyone else is just a guy trying like you. So you’re off the hook.
it sucks the best 3.0 jam is a soundcheck

Disagree. They're locked in, hosing us down with psychedelic goodness the whole way through.
