    No amount of idiocy on the Internet will change how I feel about Elizabeth Smart: she is one of my heroes. Her courage, inner beauty, strength and contributions to victims of abuse, advocating for exploited children, and later sharing her story took guts that so few fully understand. She survived because she never gave up, despite how much her spirit was shattered and her dignity was robbed from her. She kept fighting, and eventually broke free, found a wonderful husband, had 2 kids, and I’m so happy for her. I’m proud of her for being able to speak out about everything that happened to her. Her book was incredible.
    Fuck the haters and the people who keep judging her. They’re all jealous, and stupid conspiracy theorists who most likely never had been abused or raped. Their opinions are absolutely worthless.

      When I was a kid I lived in Texas and my parents divorced and untill the age of fifteen I had to legally see him by law because they had joint custody and he neglected my room I never had a clean space I was only allowed food water and a shower and never had the proper hygibw products at his house once he let his wife hold both my hands behind her hands and would physically dragg me around and even In public. My sister's would look at my dad and aay daddy do something and he just watched it and did nothing to do and he once point a gun at me and Stuck a knife threw my bedroom door and he would beat me and my sister with a belt for no reason I was basically a prissonar in his home luckily I lived with my mom full time in Austin and he lived in another town and I told my mom I thought it was gonna get better I was also on anti deppressionts to help my major deppressive disorder he kept those away from me when thoose medicine kept me alive I am a adult know and started fresh in Oregon me my mom sister's and my service dog where able to leave at the age of ninteen and suffer from PTSD I'm doing so much better then when I first moved and never told him are location and want to stop thinking about Texas and I want to forget the abuse but getting treatment and doing well this is Elizabeth smart is one of my idols because she still is strong no matter what happened to her and I still suffer with major ptsd and Elizabeth smart keeps me moving forward

      @Ed Kahler I doubt it. Her story doesn't make any sense. The "crime scene" was staged (no one came in through the window above the sink) and she never got help even though she had hundreds of opportunities to escape. Even when a detective talked to her, she didn't ask for help. She chose to go back with the guy who was allegedly raping her 4x a day.
      She's lying.

      @Ed Kahler Yea, we're on the same page. I was glad when I saw your comment. I've been going through all the Eliz. Smart videos to see if someone else had doubts and they have either deleted all the comments that are suspicious of her story or we're part of an extreme minority of people who have their eyes open..

    Dear Elizabeth
    As many people may not understand how you can put the past in the past and move on with your life, I for one can totally understand.
    Without going into my story I can tell how your strength and courage to move on with your life and not allow this horrific disgusting person to destroy your being, reminds me of the way I look at life.
    It's obvious that your faith and you're strong family bond has brought you through so much. Everyone needs to understand that it takes a lot of strength to go through what you have gone through and be able to walk away from it and get the help you needed to continue on.
    No one has the right to criticize you or judge you.
    You are a wonderful example of someone that has the faith to put what has happened to you behind and continue on in this world.
    God bless you Elizabeth
    I watched your documentary and I applaud you.
    I hope that others can learn from your courage.
    I wish you every Joy that the world can bring you.
    No one deserves it more then you.

    Elizabeth and Jaycee Dugard are two strong women. They did what they had to to survive. Neither of them had Stockholm syndrome. People who judge them clearly have never been in their situation and clearly don't get they both were children when this happened. Outsiders can easily say what they would have done sitting on the outside being a grown adult and have more information these two had at the time they were kidnapped.

    So much respect for Elizabeth. I understand as many young girls who were very idealistic. “Good girls”, like no smoking, etc. Then having something you would never do forced upon you!! Which of course just touches the surface of the terrible things that happened to her. So respect that she just matter of fact can describe some personal atrocities that happened to her! To steal the power and traumatic effect her captors had on her, so she can live, but at same time letting others know how serious it was! How traumatic it really was! And can still be!
    Cannot believe what people said to her too!!! Survival mode!

      really, then why at the party didnt' she whisper "im elizabeth smart" to anyone!!! there were people at the party that said straight out the creepy guy wasnt' always with her. So why?!!! why in the library when the cop said "i think your the girl everyone's looking for, lift your veil" and she didnt. didn't even signal with her eyes!!! Or how about when she was placed in the back of the cop car, she said to the police "i am not the girl you are looking for!!!!!!" explain this shit??! I will help you. Her father was overbearing. Probably didn't let her date boys, go out late, or do anything the girls her age were doing. So here comes this guy, convinces her to leave. She leaves. Now she's having sex, drinking, going to parties. An entirely different life. And no overbearing father. did you see when they first reunited her with her parents. No smile, no rush and hug. It was more like ...meh...hey. im home. Give your head a shake, read the story. And you will see the holes in her story. Did you know she was even upset because the life network didn't want to use her in the life time story of her kidnapping!!!! she loves the attention, she loves the fame.

    I watched the show and cannot believe how stupid the police were with this. Dozens of people were allowed in the house, what were the parents and police thinking? There should have been a search party with bloodhounds immediately as they were close by for six weeks up in the hills. A helicopter was right over their tent but yet didnt spot it. Too much time and resources were spent questioning the family, how could one of them abduct her right in front of the younger sister? Word of advice, don't EVER take a polygraph because just feeling guilty about a situation will make a person look deceptive as did happen to one of her brothers.

      You can't really fault the parents for what happened with the crime scene. When your kid is kidnapped your first thought is probably not going to be "OMG I've got to protect the crime scene!", your first thought is most likely going to be "OMG my kid has been kidnapped we have to find her NOW NOW NOW NOW!!!!!" It was the police who royally screwed up the crime scene. After Ed called the police he & Lois called family members & neighbors to get a search going. But the police were the first on the scene & they didn't block it off to protect the evidence. It was a huge screw-up on the part of the police & they later admitted as much.

      I agree with you totally. The police made several screw ups. And their biggest was not doing anything to locate the culprit when they were given his name and the family took upon themselves to take it public... and good on them. All to often the police are so incompetent . Awesome to see her grow up to be a lovely person who wants to help others as much as she can....amazing lady.

    • @frankdrebin2343
      @frankdrebin2343 4 роки тому

      @@Lizfan2 No, the parents called the 12 people to the house before they even called 911. They staged the crime scene. They pretended that someone came in through the window above the kitchen sink when that is totally impossible.
      The police was right to investigate the parents. In the end they couldn't do anything about it because the dad is a high ranking member of the church of LDS. He's a multi millionaire with more power than the police.
      People blame the detective, but why did Elizabeth not remove her mask and say "I'm here. save me"?? It's because she wasn't really kidnapped.
      That's why she's so upset at people that point it out by asking her why she didn't get help.
      Look at the pictures of her at the party.. she wasn't being restrained, she could have ran away or told someone but she didn't. She went home willingly with her "kidnapper"

Anyone in their right mind should know this young lady did what she had to to survive, and she did survive. That is what's most important, she survived! She had the tools to use against her captures to show them she could be trusted in doing as they asked while knowing eventually she would be rescued ALIVE at some point when the time was right. They should have had a more warming, emotionally connected interviewer, anyways Elizabeth was so wonderful and handled all of the stupid questions with strength and power. As a society we shouldn't blame victims for not running or other things because society simply doesn't prepare people for survival situations. The best thing to do is to fight, and run, and scream for police, and never allow a bad person to take you to that secondary location. Prepare yourself and your family for that possibility and they'll have a better chance of survival.

    I can understand that she was only 14yo and it is easy to be manipulated and being terrified of your captors at that age. I also understand that escape could be a terrifying option for her, but they were together at the party full of people were it was easy to take the veil off and scream “I”m Elizabeth Smart, help me”! Also the police officer asked her multiple times if she was Elizabeth Smart and that she was safe now, but she still kept denying her identity and when she finally confirmed who she was, the first question she asked the officer weren’t about her parents, family, but “what’s gonna happen to them” like she was concerned more about them than her real family. I think spending so much time with her captors 24/7 she regarded them her family. It’s hard for me to comprehend that, but I think she is denying this fact or even denying it in front of herself. I’m not judging her or criticizing her, it’s just hard for me to come to term with certain facts. Although the same happened to Duggard and she was in public too and could easily ask for help, but she didn’t too. The only explanation that comes to my mind was that these two girl got “used” to their captors and regarded them as their “family”.

    I am SO glad she decided to sidestep psychiatry!! There's a time and a place to talk to someone and to work things out and to sort things out mentally and spiritually but psychiatry is basically more of a pseudoscience than a real science and although certain types of holistic and/or nutritional mental aid/help might have their place in certain limited capacities, her route was definitely certainly, for her, the sane route!

      I noticed this too. In my opinion they should have found female psychiatrists. Yes, she was also abused by a woman, but in this type of fragile situation, female doctors tend to make victims feel less threatened. A parent in the room might be difficult thought just because children may not want their parents to hear the deep details of what happened to them all in one swoop so they might shy away from everything that happened.

    now we're evil for pointing out that she is obviously lying about being kidnapped. A detective comes up to you, your parents "have been looking for you" (allegedly) for months, and instead of ending the whole saga, you stayed quiet and you stayed with the "kidnapper".
    Sick.
    You're not a good example for women to follow.

      She was paralyzed by the fear of psychological, physical, and sexual abuse being replayed in her mind. That's not an easy situation to be talkative. She's actually the best example for everyone to follow. She went through hell and survived without a scratch. She's a modern-day Superhero.

    • @frankdrebin2343

      @@nigelsenchez she definitely survived without a scratch but that's because she didn't go through hell. Her story is a lie.
      She even called herself "the girl that ran away" when the police finally stopped her. That's not what a kidnapped victim would ever ever say.
      "i'm not who you think i am, the girl that ran away".
      You can't be both a girl who gets raped 4x a day everyday for 9 months and a girl who survives without a scratch. Pick one.

      Frank Drebin yes you ca. If you are a strong person you can survive any trauma. If you are a numb nut like yourself well then your just a numb nut and maybe you’ll always be a numb nut for the rest of your numb existence.

    • @frankdrebin2343
      @frankdrebin2343 3 роки тому

      @@nigelsenchez no. The only way to survive that kind of trauma is years of work and therapy. She refused to go to therapy because she said she was didn't need it (she wouldn't have been able to keep up the lie when talking about it for hours) and even slept alone in the same bed that she was "kidnapped" from the same night she got back to her parent's house!!
      No real victim would do that.
      Open your eyes and stop being numb to the world.

      Frank Drebin Clearly it isn’t the only way. Maybe some people are that mentally strong They don’t need therapy. That’s why I said she’s a modern day superhero and your just a numb nut.

    • @kristofferjohansen6550
      @kristofferjohansen6550 6 років тому +5

      It’s not egotism you moron. It’s an emotional wall that is a defense mechanism because she never truly processed it all (due to her decision to not have therapy). She talks about her experience as if she were narrating a National Goegraphical film about wildlife- DETACHED. There are a few moments when (if you’re not blind like you) you can tell it gets too close to home, at which point she buttons down, detaches emotionally, and becomes “egotistical.”
      Jesus Christ how are you this divorced from something so obvious? Her “arrogance” is not arrogance. It’s disassociation.
