  • Sogyal Rinpoche has resigned from Rigpa
Sogyal Rinpoche steps down as head of Rigpa after allegations
In this Sogyal Rinpoche UA-cam video I will explain why he resigned from Rigpa and I will also show the full resignation letter he wrote.
Sogyal Rinpoche known from the Sogyal Rinpoche Scandal or Sogyal Rinpoche Controversy
Sogyal Rinpoche is a Tibetan lama (Dzogchen lama) of the Nyingma tradition. The Nyingma tradition is the oldest of the four major schools of Tibetan Religious Studies (the other three being the Kagyu,
Sakya and Gelug). "Nyingma" literally means "ancient," and is often referred to as Ngangyur, because it is founded on the first translations of Ancient scriptures from Sanskrit into Old Tibetan in the eighth century. He has been teaching for over 30 years and continues to travel widely in Europe, America, Australia and Asia.
Rigpa is the name of an international Religious organization,
Sogyal is the founder and spiritual director of Rigpa-an international network of over 100 centres and groups in 23 countries around the world-and the author of the best-selling book The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, which has been printed in 30 languages and 56 countries. He is known for his ability to present his understanding of Tibetan Religion using the language of contemporary Western thought.
A manual for life and death and a source of inspiration from the heart of the Tibetan tradition, The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying provides a lucid and inspiring introduction to meditation techniques, to the nature of mind, to karma and rebirth, to compassionate love and care for the dying, and to the trials and rewards of the spiritual path.
Also written as: Sogal Rinpoche, Sogial Rinpoche or Sogyal Rinpoch in the Sogyal Rinpoch Scandal

He will suffer the karmic repercussions according to nature. So sad, his book led to my life of Buddhism.
But I will not let what happens to him shake my strong beliefs and practice.

There's nothing in his letter that expresses regret for his actions, as evidenced on video, nor sexual abuse of a child and his adult students.
Also, if he truly cared about Rigpa he would not have left it to HIS "most trusted" but rather request totally objective lamas be sent to take it over and ensure no one who thought as he does, in relation to students, would remain in Rigpa either.

I attended the retreat in November of '93 when his book came out. I was very impressed but sad to say he later succumbed to his long term self indulgent tendencies justifying it as something necessary for the students' enlightenment. What nonsense that was though I don't hate him in spite of it.

remember the buddha says not to follow any teachers including him..but to use as guides to find your own truths. if it means changing from these beliefs..then that is the path one must take. This teacher should be reminding of that fact.

Well the ego and our understanding of it is so limited really.. for us all raised to celebrate the ego and be the ego.. caught up in various forms and identities like the 'victim' or the 'abused person or persons', the hard done by, the hurt, the rejected... whatever.. the good samaritan, the guru, the teacher.. In the west we are not schooled in any kind of spiritual or mind/thoughts/exploration in childhood unless it is via organised religion i.e.stories of Jesus or Muhammad or whoever.. unlike the Tibetan lamas who grow up in environment of learning Buddhist teachings from very small toddlers in temples or holy places and let's not forget, they are removed as children from their parents .. in order to be raised away from them to become a monk or a llama . They learn at a young age about the manifestations of ego and to view emotions and thoughts as all part of the ego development and to learn not to identify with that but to try and grow the higher self. We in the west read a few books on Buddhism or meditation, do a bit of yoga and think we understand what they are trying to teach us.!! . We in our ego states so hungry for liberation from our pain and suffering... come to these teachers in the guise of students, seekers, friends, lovers, victims, losers, stuck in anger , depression, grasping desperate to be 'led' down the path of liberation with all our neediness or perhaps in hippy dippy fairy cuckoo land world. The master or teacher is rarely truly understood really by us westerners. Rinpoche was skilled in translating teachings that could help us to reach a rudimentary level of understanding.. But we live in a world of the ego.. where it reigns supreme in every one of us no matter how highly evolved we think we are.. and that includes higher evolved people like the master or teacher! Those of us less enlightened and more identified with our thoughts and ideas will always see abuse if we feel abused..be a victim if we believe we are the victim.. where someone else with a different perception may notice that in themselves and seek to liberate themselves from that idea.about who they believe they are.. . or another may see it as a teaching, perhaps to reveal how strong the ego self is.. Is it still there? The victim, the abused, the accuser, the critic, the person who is love with their teacher? Yes. There and very strong.. even after 30 years It is very present. Sogyal Rinpoche has had cancer..growing inside for years.. Cancer and illness changes people's behaviours sometimes.. and they cannot sense it or see it ... He is responsible to notice that but his so called devoted students and friends or maybe anyone close to him could have spotted something was changing for him.. and drawn his attention to it ..OR if all these people around him for over 30 years felt systematically abused I'm left wondering why they didn't say something to him privately at the get go, at their first perception of it or at very least sooner than 30 years later! or just simply left him to go find another teacher. That was an option.. I know If I had stood in a room with anyone , robes or not and they told me to do something , such as he is accused of like show them my genitals..or perform a sexual act.. I would simply walk out of the room. Punching in the stomach sounds like violent attack.. but a sudden directing of energy to the solar plexus by a master is sometimes seen as a transmission of energy, a teaching often reportedly used in martial arts training .. right or wrong depending on your perception or view and where you are at with yourself. If the nun felt violated she had a choice to take it up with him directly or carry on being a student.Similarly if he was abusing his perceived position of power, then surely this could have been managed by addressing it directly with him. The manner in which this has been handled by Rigpa is awful in my opinion and leads me to believe there is nothing but intended malice towards Sogyal Rinpoche, a person who bought so much to the world with his writings and teachings and to them personally. He was world renowned and raising great awareness for Tibetan Buddhism, peace and compassion .. maybe he was becoming too powerful? Maybe the fact that Rigpa put him on a pedestal and bowed and scraped and ran around doing everything for him did go to his head. did make him believe he was a kind of king? Who knows? He is a person and Rigpa staff treated him like a god! I sense something is behind this 'intentional malice' of publishing of an open letter on the internet of all places, of all methods one could employ to challenge him about his behaviour. I am not defending abuse of power but power can only be yielded if you submit to it and encourage it by your own actions. . But to me more than anything it reveals that to really get a grip on these teachings and what your ego is...well here it all is laid out in a letter to the master! Rigpa the organisation I always found obstructively hierarchical and a bit aloof. The people running it would not recognise anyone as even slightly spiritually aware or evolved unless you had gone through their hoops and followed their structure of courses all of which cost! ... The organisation I felt was the problem, not the teacher. For those who felt abused and victimised I would say ... here it is . the work you need to do in this life. So best get on with it.

    • @louisemariec3608
      @louisemariec3608 6 років тому

It's true what you say about the organization but ultimately he was responsible for that and he abused people.

    • @PhoenixProdLLC

Kbax Bax Enough with your convaluted rationalizations about his abusing his position and the trust of his students, both male and female. He wasn't just sexually abusive, he was also physically and emotionally abusive AND, before all this broke, he HAD BEEN WARNED by fellow lamas privately that they wanted his erratic and abusive teachings to stop.
HE CHOSE to ignore them all. ONLY HE is responsible for his actions and there are repurcussions to them, as in all things. His mind is polluted.
