Chase -- thanks for giving more detailed and more critical product reviews. You used to be too nice when comparing items, so it was impossible to catch what's wss important or different.
Philip G you bet. Most of my videos are product spotlights to show the features of a product and I try not to be too opinionated about them. With this type of video, it’s all about what I’ve experienced. Glad you enjoy them 👍 -Chase
I just ordered tech 7 size 9 my foot is exactly 10 inches so I'm praying they fit I would much rather they be small than big because you can get hurt not knowing where your toe is on the pegs
I HAVE BOTH, INSTINCTS HAVE THE BEST BIKE FEEL IN MY OPINION LENGTH WISE THERE TRUE TO SIZE BUT THEY HURT MY FEET WITH THE WIDTH OF THEM FOR LIKE THE FIRST 30 MINUTES OF RIDING. I WAS THINKING OF GOING UP A SIZE BUT I DONT WANT THEM TO FEEL TO BIG. i BOUGHT A PAIR OF TECH 7S AND THEY ARE DEFINETLY MORE COMFORTABLE BUT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A LITTLE HEAL FLOAT AND THE SHIFTING ON THE BIKE HENCE THE REASON IVE ONLY WORE THEM A HAND FUL OF TIMES AND I JUST DEAL WITH THE PAIN ON MY INSTINCTS BECAUSE BIKE FEEL AND SHIFTING IS SECOND TO NONE.
I like the tech 7 but the replaceable sole is useless for me. The part that's replaceable is the mid foot section and I wear out the area at the balls of my feet. I bought the replacement sole, but when I looked at where I had the most wear, it was just in front of the replacement sole. So I have to buy new boots but they do last for 2 years for me.
Sorry to hear that. No boot can prevent every injury and sometimes it's just a freak deal. I tore my patellar tendon off my knee cap on a turn track with knee braces on. - Chase
I have a pair of Tech 7's that the pivot point on the medial side of the boot has ripped out of the boot. Have you seen this before and is it repairable? Considering trying out the Instincts this time around but have loved the overall feel of the Tech 7's
I haven't seen that before! You would need to reach out to Astars to see if it is repairable or not. But if you liked the Tech 7, I'm sure you'd like the Instinct. - Chase
Just got a pair on instincts, my first ever real pair of mx boots...Besides the fact that they're so heavy it feels like there's a dumbell strapped to my leg, OMG that top of the plastic toe box KILLS my toes when I shift them around or scrunch them, it's so hard it rubs a major hot spot. There's no way I would wear these things riding. Are all mx boot toe boxes like this????
The instinct is one of the lightest premium boots out there. It’s much lighter than a tech 10, SG12, crossfire 3 or even the new leatt flexlock. As for the hotspot, I’ve had many instincts and I’ve had a couple hot spots but for the most part have been a great boot. - chase
Both would be fine. Since your standing and shifting a lot in desert, the Tech 7 having more flex might be a little better. But the tech 10's support cant' be beat. - Chase
I owned the fox instincts and in 1 season I broke 6 straps and 2 buckles. I then bought the Alpinestars tech 7's and have not had a single issue with them since. I ride mostly single track and occasionally ride at the track. The Alpinestars are more comfortable and fit my riding better than the instincts. The instincts did not hold up well for me.
I've been wearing the Tech 7's for sometime now and very pleased with this boot. This is my second favorite boot that I have owned and I think I've owned 12 boots so far. Best boot was a Gaerne SG10. I cannot speak for the Fox but I would recommend the Tech 7's for anyone on a budget. I will most likely purchase another pair next time around they are that good.
I love how the fox fit, but after a year they are shredded, straps and levers breaking, the fake leather falling apart. The rubber sole looks like I shot it with a shotgun. Never getting that crap again.
Fox is lost. Really bad experiences with all of their products in the last 3 years. Never again. My Tech 3s are of way better quality than Fox's mid-level crap. Also, the Fox Raptor vest is poorly designed, fragile, and has multiple defects.
The Instinct has incredible feel, but they are not very durable. Im an aggressive woods rider, my boots get smashed off rocks, roots, branches, etc so this is a deal breaker. I usually stick with Gaerne or Sidi, but Alpinestars makes a great boot also. O'Neal makes some decent cheapo boots.
I don't understand Alpinestars sizing these days tech 10 size 10 fits me perfect tech 7 size 10 is too big Tech 7 size 9 fits perfect.. Problem is size 9 seems stubby and the toe Box is pointy creating mis shifts and a strange feeling of my shifter being too long took a little bit of getting used to .. hmm After 40 years of riding I am mystified by such a sizing concept.. Tech 7 size 10 is actually 10.5 Lastly Tech 10 is a very rigid boot and I primarily use them for big bike riding My catch-22 is I am a veteran rider and I find myself riding the YZ125 most which I need a very subtle boot for fanning the shifter and positive action.. Anyway hope my 2 cents helps some knucklehead out there ride hard have fun stay safe...
I have both. The SG12 build quality is second to none. However, I don't like the sole or how high the toe box is on the outside of the boot. Needed to move my shifter up. I dont wear the 12's.
Fox is a track boot only imo, I have both and love the T7's for every place but the track, as far as true to size I take a 12 in everything except Astars, those are 13's and it's not great for feel
The fox boots are smaller size than tech 7. I have tech 7 s13 and they are super comfortable fit. The 2022 fox instinct s13 was to small length wise. We can’t get instincts in s14 white in NZ.
The heel padding in the Fox Instinct is really top notch. I randomly was stepping on quarter sized rocks and noticed how they would sink into the heel. Other than that, I will be trying a different brand, hopefully the Tech 10 soon.
Had the tech 10 awhile ago and didn’t like them. Tech 7 and fox instinct are better imo I have both. Fox are super comfortable and break in fast with the pivot at the ankles.
I have fox instincts and I’ve broke a strap and the toe box has tore from snagging a rock on the trail and I’ve had to glue it back with shoe goo and the inside shin sleeves are shredding - I have the older generation where the sizing is 3 sizes different than my true size so my 9 has to be 11.5 and my toes still cram from a narrow toe box and my left big toenail turns black and blue after rides - I still like the boot and love the style and color ways -just my two cents
Man, sounds like you're really hard on boots haha. But we appreciate the feedback. Fox does have a new Instinct 2.0 that will be out very soon that has many improvements including the sizing.
Hi Chase , i have a question on buying new boots. we are at the begining of 2022 but there are a lot of sites selling bots which show year as all the way back from 2015/16 to 2021. are these manufacturing dates or model launch dates and how far back can you go with these dates/year to get a good deal, does the shoes leather etc quality get affected with time lying in the warehouses ? thanks!

Honestly, all the premium boots have good ankle protection and will be better than your O'neals. If you want the most support possible, I'd check out a Tech 10 and the SG12 as well. - Chase
@@rmatvmc well for summer riding I have troy Lee air gloves and love them. What is your recommendation for fall/winter riding? I like the Troy Lee because they fit tight and give a lot of grip. I don't want anything bulky. Let me know. You guys are awesome!!!!!! I literally buy all my stuff from you guys. Your UA-cam game is on point....
Which boot out of the 2 has a softer toe box? I know gaerne boots have very hard plastic around the toe box area for impact protection. These 2 boots look pretty soft
thing about Fox brand is that i feel like i have to be on a fox apparel as well like UNIFORM brand while alpinestars you can wear any brand any apparel with it or mix and match. in my opinion.
Looks like you need to embrace the sole rider inside of you and not worry about mixing brands haha! But hey, I totally get where you're coming from. I'm the same way in that I don't wear my instincts with anything but Fox or Shift gear. But I see riders do it all the time. I'm lucky enough to have many pairs of boots so it's not something I have to think about too often. But they are still my favorite boot to ride in. They will be releasing a new Instinct later this year! - Chase

I own Tech 7’s and love em. If you are going with any Fox boots, good luck if you ever need replacement parts when they break (which you will).

Do a review on the instinct x boot
We have a spotlight for it already. It's the instinct offroad boot. Fox changed the name to Instinct X but it's the exact same.
Ok thank you.

Buying tech 7 and having 9.5, better to go for 10 or 9?
10

On the 2022 model instincts, not the 2.0. I’m at about 25 hours on the instincts. They are about halfway through their life span.
