  • Bike suddenly threw code C28. Secondary valves rotate and get stuck on fast idle lever

    I had C28 for a long time. Jerky at low revs but rideable , flaps moved when revving so not broken, tried all sorts STV. What fixed it was moving the position of the TPS to about centre of the slot it is on. No light now for over 100miles and much smoother at the low revs . Very easy to do and extremely effective give it a go before you rule it out

    Ronald, I had the same issue almost, my secondary blades would close while riding and cause the bike to lurch. So I broke it down same as you. Got c29 code I bought a secondary set of throttle bodies and I'm gonna swap the SVTA and let you know how it goes..If you have any extra info that would be good

      atlantis2821 thanks for the info. so i had two issues:
      1) when turning the ignition on, the secondary butterflies would rotate too far, and would get trapped behind the fast idle lever (as in the video)
      2) another issue (that my video doesnt show) 'if' the bike would start, the secondary butterfly would rotate fully closed then open (as it should on any working gixxer), BUT then instead of remaining open as the bike idles, the secondaries would start irratically rotating slightly forward/closed (like if they were having a seizure, for lack of a better explanation)
      i took the TB's off, didnt find anything. Took the STVA off and dismantled and didnt find anything, tested the STVA and nothing.
      So like you, i threw in the towel and bought a used complete TB assembly last week, waiting for it to arrive so i can install and see how that goes.
      *fingers crossed*

    Has anyone changed the secondary tps? I have a power commander as well and I will be pulling it out to see if that is the problem. Anyone else running a power commander and having this issue?

    • @rr6966
      @rr6966  9 років тому

      Kyle Quinnell i have a PCV on mine but i dont have the TPS error. My error was due to the STVA only (*knock on wood). I think there were some ppl on gixxer.com with the same issue as you. Check there, ther may be more info

      I have power commander 3 and it is not my power commander it either has to be my computer harness or stva slash position sensors

    Today I had a similar problem like this, I went finally at your situation because of the STVA sensor doesn't work properly. You can try to oil the STVA sensor. Maybe it will work for you. My problem is: The engine falls off time 2 time because of the STVA sensor. I also get the c28 error. Problem = They don't sell the STVA sensor apart. You have to buy the full throttle body with the sensor on it.

    • @rr6966
      @rr6966  8 років тому +1

      yes. that's what a few of us said. you can't fix the c28 error, you'll have to replace the whole sensor, but Suzuki doesn't sell the sensor on its own; you have to buy the whole throttle body. +steven Lowry was able to use an identical stva part from Kawasaki, and it worked

      Hey Kyle, so i took my TB's off and took off the STVA motor and dismantled it. The ONLY thing i could see was the plastic gear inside of the STVA motor appeared worn. The circuit board in the STVA had no damage or burn marks or fractures to any of the welds. I cleaned up some of the worn parts of the gear (should have been fine) and re-installed, but the problem is still there. So the only thing i can think of is the STVA itself has 'some kind' of malfunction in it.

    hello mate, did you manage to fix the problem??
    you want to check your STPS adjustment FIRST, before you buy ANY parts or try anything else which will cost you money, have you got a workshop manual for your bike?

    • @rr6966
      @rr6966  10 років тому

      Well i thought it was fixed, but turns out its not. Still throwing the code. Think that wehn i reinstalled the STVA, the TPS got messed up, and now the STVA & TPS are sending conflicting data to the ECU

      on the left hand column select "TPS,STPS,C28,C29"

      LeLoS Pap thanks for the info. BUT the older gixxers (I think everything 06 and back) had a different TPS/STVA motor/circuit board then the newer ones. The STVA on my bike, is a different design than the pre 2006 ones. So the gixxers for the old STVA doesn't really work on mine. Thanks for the info tho!

    I would test the voltages going in and out of your STPS.

    Guys I'm having an issue with this as well. I started out with a bike that ran fine but had the C 46 code. Exhaust Valve Actuator because of the full Yoshi. After watching a few videos on how to fix this I attempted to pull out the SET (Suzuki exhaust timing) vale wire from the ECU. Turned out being the wrong wire & now I have C 28 & 29 at times. I'm still researching this problem but It seems to me that by watching this video, you have the stva on the butterfly shaft in the wrong position. The STPS is spring loaded so it spins when you take it off the shaft.

      friend, what position should be the STVA and the butterflies and the STPS?

  • @108Fishy

    I ended up buying a used complete set of throttle bodies off of eBay and installed them. Problem fixed! The new set of throttle bodies won't open far enough to trip the mechanical latch on the left side of the tb's so I think your right with the stretched hole in the plastic gear.

    • @rr6966
      @rr6966  9 років тому

      Kyle Quinnell i ended up doing the exact same thing. I got the new (well, not 'new' but used and working properly) TB a few weeks ago, but its been too cold to install. I'll p[ost up how it goes once i get them on. I think for any 08+ Gixxer, there isnt a fix for a broken STVA (like there was on 07 and back gixxers) :(

    friend when one should change the stva the butterflies should be placed in some position?

    • @rr6966
      @rr6966  6 років тому

      as far as i know, you cant get the STVA alone from suzuki; you have to buy the whole throttle body assembly. in THEORY, If you manage to get a working STVA 'sensor/motor' - then yes you would have to pull off the old (STVA sensor) one and install the new one. The butterfly's would have to be the in the exact same position on the old and 'new' motor. I believe theres a kawasaki STVA that fits the GSXR1000 (someone actually installed the kawi stva and it worked perfectly)

    ? problem fixed?

  • @rr6966
    @rr6966  10 років тому

    So i figured out waht was wrong with mine. The shaft (that the valves are mounted on) that actually inserts into the STVA, had somehow 'stretched' the plastic gear inside the STVA. When i removed the STVA (and dismantled) i noticed the hole that the shaft inserts into was no longer rectangular, but had become rounded, allowing 'play' and movement, when there should be none. That caused my code. I'm using Plastex to try and fill in the rounded parts of that gear, and will reinstall to see if it works.

    • @rr6966
      @rr6966  8 років тому

      the easiest and quickest solution (and wasn't 'that' expensive) was to buy a used (working) complete throttle body. as far as i know, there is no actual fix for a bad stva (i mean if you were looking to replace the motor/sensor on its own) because the part isn't sold as a single piece (you have to buy the whole throttle body). also there's very few guys with the electronics background to successfully fix a bad stva. so find a working used tb and install.

      My plastic piece is messed up on the inside...... Don't think I can get that either. Sucks

    • @rr6966
      @rr6966  8 років тому

      +Stephen Lowry yeah i dismantled the stva and there was nothing that was obviously wrong. i also looked at the circuit board and the motor controlling the stva, and tested the resistance - and it was OK. unfortunately, there really is no simple fix (ie swapping out the stva on its own) and the root cause of the malfunction is also unknown. it 'just happens'.
