@@MrSanserif give a good reason for it colonizer 😂. In 18th century France entered this island and started exploiting its natives for its own benifits , made them slaves and sold them . Addition to that it was french colonizers who introduced new deadly diseases like plague and small pox to this island which killed 40% of its native population. You people used this island for atomic test without the consent of its people. I always support France due to my nation's intrest but as a citizen of former British colony I know the pain of colonialism. So, I support freedom of New Caledonia 🇳🇨

@@TDW16 41% for independence during the 1st referendum, 47% the 2nd time, and the 3rd time in 2021 the separatists boycotted because France held the referendum during Covid-19. Had the separatists decided to show up it would been over 50%. Same as Niger, France doesn't want to leave because of the resources and strategic position. 25% of the world's nickel comes from New Caledonia.

I don't see any problem with overseas territory, if the people in those territories are happy with the situation I don't see the problem. In fact French Guyana and the Falklands are some of the richest places per capita in South America. Polling shows the people living there are pro the status quo. Maybe it´s referendum time and a deep reflection involving both the Natives and the French in order to work out the best solution for that region.

its so interesting to see that Europeans think that colonies benefited from Europe. at the same time they ignore the millions of natives killed in these colonies. why do Europeans forget what they looted from he colonies? just ask yourself, why did you create so many colonies?? was it to help the natives or was it to plunder the resources by killing and enslaving

I've been to Noumea two times. Unlike other places in the South Pacific, Noumea is the only place that is like a first world city. Good, modern public transport, nice roads and infrastructure , clean streets and beautiful parks, and one of the best healthcare systems in the pacific. If a native Kanak needs a very specialised surgery or treatment the French government pays for them to fly to Australia or New Zealand where they receive the treatment for free. They can also go to France and study there for free. But many of these Kanak natives are lazy and they prefer to sit all day and drink and collect social benefits. Then they feel angry when they see people from France who move to New Caledonia and establish businesses and work hard and are successful. A lot of the French that have lived there for 25 years have built businesses and created jobs for Kanaks, they have paid taxes that provide health and education for Kanaks, they have invested in the local community. So they should also have a right to vote and decide how their tax money is spent. Of course if the French handed New Caledonia over to the Kanaks the society would collapse, the infrastructure would be destroyed and New Caledonia would become a third world country instantly, everybody knows this.
