Building a stone and wood survival bushcraft shelter in the woods

- This video features my construction of a stone-cum-wood shelter in a beautiful far-off forest. The biggest challenge in building this shelter was to collect stones from a seasonal creek a short distance away. It took me a great deal of time; it was time consuming and labour-intensive.
What’s more, there was a tree-dwelling squirrel which not only walked away with my food-stuffs from time to time but also disturbed my sleep in the night. Typically feeding on nuts and seeds, it had sensed edibles down in my camp and couldn't resist. Whenever I would go to collect stones or bring logs, I would have been apprehensive about the squirrel.
Once the walls were completed, I cut logs from fallen trees and then put the roof on the shelter. I used pebbles to cover the small gaps between logs; mortared, and then spread dried leaves of pine on it. Next, I put a tarpaulin and covered it with leaves of spruce tree. After that, I put mud on the leaves and gave the shelter a flat surface.
Meanwhile, the weather turned bad and it began to snow. I made a door for the shelter in haste; it wasn't perfect and substantial, I think. While I was putting a door bolt, a snowstorm hit out of nowhere. A seemingly unending stream of snowfalls started and disrupted my work. I was not only to make some necessary works inside the shelter but to build a second roof on it as well.
Moreover, I was running low on food because some of it had been stolen by squirrels. So I reached a decision to leave for now. Once the snow clears, I will go back and carry out the remaining work.

yes, Scientists sent that squirrel there for a very important experiment.
Finally, a great video of constructing a shelter without showing how to cook a meal. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Seriously. You’re so right. Why do they think we want to watch them eat?
I always fast forward the cooking part as it's just filler.
Rather sparky there. Don't let travail matters bother you. It's really not personal❤
So, design more widgets?
I love buildings made of stone. I love this.
Seeing this, everything I want. great house.
I love the stone work!
👍
Best shelter build I’ve seen online.
What a solidly constructed shelter, may you enjoy it's protection for all the years of your life !!
A true woodsman!
Thanks for watching my friend.
Wow...just wow! That has got to be the best use of natural resources that's in the area and it looks amazing! And it looks different, more solid. And no cooking!! Thank you. Can hardly wait to see what you do next.😊
Thanks for watching. Next I plan to put a second roof on it and live there for some time. Still there’s heavy snow and all the logs I had cut off are buried. Once the snow clears, I will go back to complete the remaining work.
This is sheer genius.
Thanks for watching.
Now this is a totally Well Built Shelter! A Work of Archteucture!😊😊😊😊
Glad you think so!
Nice job with the stone shelter. 🙂
Thank you! Cheers!
This is a masterpiece!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I like to see where you placed your wood heater for harsh weather. Good job building such a difficult project.
Very beautifull build in a nice place...
Bravo . J'ai hâte de voir la suite 👍👍👍
Amazing work!!
Thanks a lot!
...and without a companion dog!😅
công việc tuyệt vời hãy tiếp tục nhé
Perfect done
I grew up in California and hiked and camped throughout the Sierra Nevadas. The sugar pine (Pinus lambertiana) is unique to the Sierras and into parts of Oregon. It is lovingly embraced within your cabin! ❤
Thanks for watching.
Wow.. amazing 🤩
❤ THANKS FOR SHARING ❤️
Interesting.
Looking forward to seeing more.
amazing--and clever
What an underground wonder, hopefully one day I will also build such a beautiful house
Het ziet er sterk en solide uit. Veel werk maar met resultaat.👍
Great job. ❤
Thank you! 😊
An incredible cabin made with stones in the middle of the forest! I believe that, due to the thickness of the walls, it should be well heated in winter and quite cool in summer. Greetings from Brazil
Yeah, I agree.
That lookslike an extremely solid structure! I like the fact you use stones.
Glad you like it!
Legal! Boas vibrações
Awesome work!
Thank you! Cheers!
I love stone work.. Amazing shelter for any type of weather.. Because stones automatically change them self according to weather and mud stop overhearing in shelter ...Excellent, amazing shelter.. Thanks for the video but you didn't show inside of the shelter after completion.. I'm from india Namaste🙏🙏🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Yes, you are right.
Love the overall design. Making me think of dwarves; "rock and stone" and all that . . .
BTW, I am a bit concerned about the slope of your roof; it may be too shallow. Would hate for all that stone and wood to collapse on your head during a heavy snowstorm.
Thanks for your concern, I appreciate it. However, the walls and roof are solid enough to withstand heavy snowfalls and storms. The slopes are that way because I plan to put a second roof on the shelter in coming days.
I would love to see this in person
Thanks
Nice video ♥️👍👍
Hey Brother. When are you going to finish it. I'm really anxious to see how it turns out. Love it so far.
Is this cement that you make as connection between rocks? Everything looks very natural, beautiful; job very nicely done 🎉
Nature gives man at free of cost
Muy hermoso parece de pelicula ,gracias
Think Wilderness- sounds like a survivalist, learning bushcraft skills. 22:38
Tremendous structure
Great job
Thanks for watching.
@@thinkwilderness Un trabajo enorme. En todos los sentidos. Salud !!
my friend, you built a good shelter, and where are you from?
?😊💪🤝
Thank you 👍
Whats the wooden blocks for? And why did you make a flat roof?
Maybe make door double thickness for insulation - it’s the weak point.
👍🤝
stone house
In winter,warmer
In summer,cooler
wow...
Bro we need a second floor, heating, and finishing off the inside as well as the front.
Should have taken the bark of the trees, now they will rot very quickly
That soil flat roof.. design flaw
What was the reasoning behind leaving the bark on all the logs?
Nice stone work, but you should have stripped all the logs
Thanks for your suggestion. I will remove the barks once I go back to finish the project.
Why didn't you build a fireplace and chimney, while building the walls to your shelter? It would have been far more comfortable, with some warmth. A fireplace is no more difficult to build, than a rock wall... Probably easier.
What country is this ? Enjoyed it
How do you plan to heat it? I wish you had shown that.
I had installed a fireplace temporarily but unfortunately, I missed filming it. Hope I can show it in the next video!!
What tribe does your heritage come from?
What tribe does YOUR heritage come from.....nòt a very polite one thats for sure...
He tries so hard to build such a good and strong object and in the end he gets a mud roof that only brings moisture and rots the supporting wood !!!
You are legend masterpiece how long it take;
Almost a month and a half.
@@thinkwilderness great congratulations again you must have very patience as a person
@@ellas88 yeah, one has to be patient while building a shelter in the forest. It’s not easy and takes a great deal of time and effort.
@ Building a stone and wood survival shelter
So much wasted talent. You guys of the „I built a fortress in the wilderness, without an axe, without a tent, without clothes, without food, in heavy rainstorm and deadly blizzards“ type, you should build cities in civilization. That would be much more interesting. Bushcraft videos? OMG.
Very bad video.
Super unnecessary and excessive expenditure of wood!! This is called wasting resources, and having very little respect for nature.
possibly to stand there for a very long time. 🏚
