The summer international tournaments have kicked off, and we are already being treated to some all-time performances by top players. But some of these players are playing under massive pressure, and it is those guys we want to talk about today.
These are 10 players who will be under CRAZY pressure at the Euros.
Let’s start with Kylian Mbappé. The France captain is one of the best players in the world and he is one guy you’ll always expect to score plenty of goals and put up a show, but he is definitely under a lot of pressure at the Euros, and that’s not even hard to tell.
The Real Madrid man recently made a statement in an interview saying that the Euros are more complicated than the World Cup. That alone gives you a little insight into what’s going on in his mind. He probably blames himself for France’s very early exit at Euro 2020, missing a number of chances during the game, and ultimately missing the penalty that sent them home.

What about Harry Kane. The guy is a world class striker who’s in the peak of his powers and he continues scoring goals at an elite rate, but remains the greatest player to have never won a trophy. He has had zero luck when it comes to trophies for club and country and many fans believe that he has a “trophy curse” and his presence alone makes his teams worse. Last summer when he made that move to Bayern Munich we all thought that his trophy drought would end because they’re a team that wins trophies every season.
Yes he had the best season of his career don’t get me wrong where he scored 40+ goals in all competitions, but his presence at Bayern Munich funny enough coincided with them going trophy-less for the first time in 12 years and finally saw their dominance in the Bundesliga come to an end all of that in his debut season. I don’t think it’s his fault especially when the whole team around him was ass and Bayer Leverkusen just couldn’t lose a game, at the end of the day, Kane still hasn’t won a trophy and since Bayern Munich finished 3rd in the Bundesliga and won’t be playing in the German Super Cup at the start of next season, if England don’t win the EUROs this summer, he has to wait another 12 months to win his first ever trophy. With the squad that England has it looks very good on paper and sooner or later, a player of his caliber needs to win a trophy and that alone is so difficult considering the fact that he’s on a talented yet dysfunctional team and he is another player under pressure at the EUROs because no matter how many goals he scores, it doesn’t change the fact that the guy doesn’t have any trophies to his name and we don’t know when the “curse” will end.

Vinicius Junior is one of if not the best player in the world right now and he has been excellent for Real Madrid in recent seasons and he has led them to 2 champions league titles in 3 years where he has gotten a G/A in every knockout stage tie from the RD of 16 to the final itself and he’s seen as a frontrunner for the Ballon Dor this year and while he has been excellent at club level, he needs to step up for Brazil at the Copa America. He’s not an international flop but when he plays for Brazil he’s a different player for the national team than he is for Real Madrid and he’s one of those players who despite being consistently excellent for his club every week doesn’t replicate that at international level. I know he can impact the game beyond scoring, for a world class player who’s seen as a Ballon Dor contender 3 goals in 30 games for your country is very poor and with Neymar out of the Copa America, Brazil needs the best version of Vini. Depending on how he performs for his country, he can go from being seen as the best player in the world to a player who’s a systems merchant who is carried by Ancelotti and Madrid. He’s one bad Copa America away from losing the Ballon Dor as depending on what happens in the EUROs other contenders will be ahead of him in the race for the Ballon Dor and that’s because international football plays a massive role in determining the best player in the world as in an international year, what you do at club level isn’t enough unless you deliver for your country on the biggest stage and that has been the case with players in recent years. Due to the impact of international football and recency bias, what he did for Real Madrid in the champions league could be forgotten if he underperforms at another international tournament for his country. Vini will win the Ballon Dor if Brazil wins the Copa America and he balls out for them by scoring a couple of goals and he plays well.

How can a player be consistently good at club level on a weekly basis yet look like a shadow of their former self when they play for their country especially for someone who’s so talented. This is exactly what Vinicius Junior and Phil Foden have in common both of them are excellent players who show up week in week out when they play for their club, but outside of Real Madrid and Manchester City respectively, we’ve yet to see the best version of them at international level when they play for their country as the often fail to replicate their club form with the national team.
Foden is the only top player who gets the most excuses for ghosting every time he puts on an England shirt. We’re talking about the most talented player in their squad who was the best player in the premier league last season he won them the league a couple of weeks ago yet following a string of poor performances at international level, you wonder why can’t he play the same way he does for Manchester City with England. They don’t know how to use him properly because you cannot keep playing him as a left winger as he’s being asked to play out of position and when he’s trying to get involved in the game he has no fullback overlapping with him meaning that with all of the touches of the ball he has he doesn’t make an impact as he’s either passing the ball backwards or sideways. In order to truly get the best out of him, play a proper left winger and move Foden to the midfield alongside Bellingham because that’s what they need to do in order to get more from him if not, you might have to consider benching him. We have to acknowledge that he’s not being utilized to his strengths as you don’t want to play a player of his caliber out of position but also bring up the fact that as a player who’s very talented you have to adapt for club and country no matter what position you play in and it gets to a point where he’ll be running out of excuses if he keeps underperforming for England especially since at Man City he’s able to have decent output even though most of the time Pep is playing him as a winger. If they change his role, who knows maybe Foden will play better
