Hi Mark what was the settings you put in around 3.14 or 3.15 for the sharpness rain function 0 on the something and I got lost from there really if you could add them in your answer please Thanks.
Complete nube, here. I just picked up one of these as an initial move from using my phone and was immediatkey overwhelmed with all the options to the point I wanted to return it and retreat back into my comfortable phone. Your video has me thinking that maybe I can actually get into the saddle after all. Thanks for the guidance.
no M, Av or Tv, depending if you're looking for field depth or "speed" subject. M is for specific cases, such as night photography or particular composition that need to be set up in a "non natural" way.
Raw is overrated if you're a hobbyist new into photography. Raw means you need to spend time & possibly money on post production to get the best out of your images. If you're just shooting casual & not doing paid shoots, jpeg is perfectly fine to collect memories for sharing digitally &/or even print. 20MP gives you a pretty huge blown up picture. P/S: if you shoot just raw & no jpeg, you won't be able to review after shooting.
Hey! I totally agree with you for the most part! I think it just varies from workflow to workflow. If you have spare time to edit then raw is definitely the way to go but if you want a faster workflow then by all means go JPEG. Also if you aren't able to view your raw files in your camera, You're probably using a super slow SD card that's why it can't read that fast. Thank you again for your input, I appreciate your contribution. Hope this helps other people as well!
I know my mkii is older but I appreciate and will appreciate any content you think will help. There is a lot of newer stuff out there but my mkii is in perfect condition and works well for me. Thank you!
Thank you so much! It's been so hard trying to navigate this thing since I bought it. I had no idea what any of this stuff meant prior to your video. I've been trying to get portraits for a few months and the flash mostly wouldn't go off I had everything on auto and already my few practice shots are so much better and don't come up super wide like a landscape anymore!
Thanks for this video! This did wonders for my photo quality. My pictures looked ok but up close it had a lot of noise. I was so happy to see the photos became so sharp once I changed the settings. 😄
Thanks for the video! I’m a hairstylist and bought the camera for hair photos. I wanted the camera to make my instagram look better quality to showcase my work. What’s the best setting for hair photos? Usually my clients are within a couple feet from me, pretty close in the pics and I’d like it to show the most accurate color, and a nice blurred background. Thanks!
Hey, Peter! I actually shoot jpeg more often than shooting RAW recently, I just love being able to get amazing images from just shooting jpegs, I usually shoot RAW if the scene is of a high dynamic range like a sunset or sunrise etc, or if the moment is super important and I want to play around in the editing room!
Question: When shooting in time lapse mode , landscape at 5.6 , cloudy and all those other sources at play , will these setting from this tutorial work?? Or is time lapse a function that has an auto/default setting other than these particular settings Thanx for this episode , Cheers
I love the G7x but sometimes I really struggle to get a decent photo out of it, for example at christmas with tree lights etc, the focusing was terrible and it always focused on something random. It was only when I used on the of the SCN functions that it took a perfect photo - so frustrating!
hi ,i want to ask you that if i want to take a selfie with my friends and of course i am the one who is closer to the camera, how can i put every one in focus??because the camera keeps putting just me and blur the others,i will be soo gratefull if you answer me, thanks
It would be nice if you can teach us how to do those viral vintage pics using this camera, i was thinking of buying an old cameras just so i could do have that effect but it would be nice if we could also do it here on the g7x 😅
Hi I hope you see this. I tried these settings but when I went to the beach my screen turned white as if the settings were too bright and all my photos came out white. Until I changed the settings back to the standard setting. Any suggestions would be so welcome! I am trying to learn lol Thanks!
Hey there! I totally understand what you're talking about. Just in case you don't know, each lens at each focal length has something called a minimum focus distance. So depending on how far you zoom in with your G7X II, the minimum focus distance changes. So the minimum focus distances on the G7X II throughout its zoom range are 5cm at 24mm and 40cm zoomed out all the way to 200mm. Hope this helps clear things up
Hi thanks for the video. I've just got this camera and have set up as you instructed. I had a practice and downloaded the images to my phone but notice they download as jpegs not raw. Do you know why this would be and how to get the raw photos onto my phone? Many thanks Samantha
I have such a dark screen on my camera when I have those settings and I don't know why😥 maybe it's just that I'm indoors. I'm such a newbie, thanks for the video btw 😊
Hi, a very good video on G7 X II. I've recently bought myself this camera and I know I should have taken into consideration the fact that the photos this camera takes are film like that I don't like much. If you could give some tips and tricks that I could do right off the camera and/or in post-production that would make the photos look less like film, I would really really appreciate the effort. Thank you in advance.
Hey, Gayle! For fireworks, I suggest shooting in 24p or 25p (FPS), shutter speed 1/50, white balance auto (because fireworks have different colors), ISO auto. These should be good enough/safe settings to make sure you capture the moment!
Hi, sold this camera to a friend, it's a canon g7x mark lI, when she first got the camera she put the sd card in the wrong way and had ripped it out to remove it. my guess is that she damaged the sd card slot in the camera because when she would go to take a photo with the sd card in correctly, she'd get a "sd card locked" error message. I had her buy a new sd card and the same thing. again, i'm thinking the inside of sd card slot is broken. i have a photo of the inside for reference. the camera is in pa rn but i can have it shipped back if needed.
Hey, Samantha! Sorry to hear that! Did the SD card crack and leave some parts inside the camera? I suggest putting it under a good lighting and inspect it thoroughly to check if something got left behind.
I'd choose the G7X Mark II! If I wanted an interchangeable version I'd choose the original EOS M or a Canon M6 but if we're talking about point and shoots, I'd still choose the G7X II even over the G7X III! Hope this helps! Please subscribe!
PLEASE HELP! My canon G7X Mark II beeps when I try to take a picture. It beeps like 6 times and won't take a picture. It will record a video though. I don't know what to do or how to fix this. Thanks!!
You didn't tell us a step by step how to go into them settings you used..!!! Been trying to find a step by step video on slowly how to program set my Canon Gx7 m iii so I can take sharp very clear pictures from it ..
After I’ve taken a lot of photos the flash actually doesn’t go off ( the flash is like charging or something lol ) even though it’s on M. Does this happen to anyone else?
I don’t agree with the ”turn off everything auto and always use manual”. Especially in a tutorial that quite clearly is aimed at beginners. There is nothing wrong with shooting in Av or Tv. There is nothing wrong with using JPEG. Collecting raw files on a camera that you will never find time to edit is useless.
@@markfriday When in RAW photo setting, it always leaves dark ring around the edge of photo. and the corners are black. any tips for a wannabe amateur) 🙃
Hey there! If you want to reset all the settings, then you'll have to do a proper factory reset. Turning The camera off and on again will not revert any settings.
Uploaded a new video about the best camera strap for the Canon G7X II!

Nice review, I just got mine used last month and love it. Image quality rivals my interchangeable lens cameras.
Excellent information well delivered (maybe a bit too quickly at times) but I intend to use most if not all of your recommendations. Well done!

Thank you so much for this tutorial.
I have one question: can I use these settings also for video’s?
I love this camera for concerts, do you have any tips for low light/concert shots?
f1.8, Shutter 1/50 to 1/200 (Double Focal Length), Let ISO do its own thing on Auto 👍😁

I’d like to see how the pics come out with those settings tho
On of the reasons I got this camera is that it does good JPEGS so I am not about to negate that by shooting raw.

What kind of camera do you think it is for street photography? Should I buy canon powershot 60hs or this?
Hey, Mera! For photography, definitely the G7X II. Even for video, it's still gonna be this. Sadly, the 60HS is a bit outdated and underpowered.

They're basically identical except the added USBC port, microphone jack and 4K capabilities on the Mark 3! But photo wise, they're the same!
i cant get mine to focus sharp on up close images. i used the setting that you showed in the video. any tips ? thanks !

But when I shoot in raw, my images show up darker and fisheyed when I upload them to my computer. Could you give me advice as to why it does that?
Don't shoot raw.
Good info , needs to slow down had to go back many times. Seen this done in other videos by others
does this setting work on G9X mark II as well?
Pretty much! They're not exactly the same but the menu system and interface are alike!

Having the same issue, any luck?
Canon app transfers files with jpeg format only. You need to use a card reader to manually transfer your images to your device.
Does the settings also apply to G7X Miii?
I have such a dark screen on my camera when I have those settings and I don't know why😥 maybe it's just that I'm indoors. I'm such a newbie, thanks for the video btw 😊
This setting is really for outdoor photography. 1/200 shutter speed is way to fast for indoors. Just stick to Auto when in doubt 😅
Yeah i don't think these settings are good for newbies. My 2cents
Excellent, thank you!
Thanks for the great tips!

Raw puts a black ring around the edge of the photo, when its transferred to computer

Hey, Leonita! That's completely normal. That's called "flash recycle time". It'll take a few seconds for the flash to charge back up to fire again.
