Simple solution to raise the amp up for better air flow (not that it gets real hot) and the rubber grips both the wood surface and the feet of the M500T really well. It's not moving at all.

New to high end audio and really like the M-500t! Do I have to run a preamp with this model or is it good to go as is?

Yes, you need a pre-amp. The M-500 drives the speakers, but you need a pre-amp to plug in your audio sources- CD , tuner, on-line source, etc. to send them to the amp. On the plus side, you have a lot of new and vintage options to choose from.
