    One thing I didn't want to mention in the video, because it was kind of off-topic: The release of the Remarkable Paper Pro with an E-Ink Gallery 3 screen makes it much more likely we'll see a Kindle Color with that same tech soon. I suspect they have fixed the issues they had last year and in the E-Ink Holdings investors report they mentioned an 8 inch screen/device with an improved Gallery 3 screen. So that might be the Kindle Oasis successor with colors.

      Selling point of the Remarkable has always been the, "real paper" feel. Writing on a Remarkable is almost like writing on real paper. It is amazing. The experience on Kindle, Samsung and Microsoft doesn't even come close. In fact, the Microsoft pen experience is so bad it is a joke. That is too bad because Microsoft OneNote is the best note taking software on the market. I would spend $1,000 on a Remarkable Paper Pro in a second if they could make it work with OneNote.

    The Specs, and Voija's hands-on experience at the Remarkable headquarters in Oslo, look incredible and make the device very appealing. BUT: will users be able to work offline and save their work to a USB-C flash drive? THOSE are the make-or-break questions. Many people work with highly confidential files that cannot be offloaded into the cloud, hence the concerns with working offline completely. In terms of the hardware, this new Remarkable Paper Pro is unbeatable.

      When the remarkable 2 came out and the software was lacking a ton of writing and gesture features I downloaded a jailbroken version of the OS on GitHub and and uploaded it to the device via ssh.
      It’s just a Linux based device so anything is technically possible for offloading files other than through WiFi or the cloud.

      Looking at the specs, its underpowered and does very little. Would have been better if it was at least android. Seen a review, while the colours are great, but let down by not much use for everyday use, as it has no web browser, clock, and limited apps. And for what you get expensive. They should have made it an e reader

    $929 AUD for a note-taking tablet...what were reMarkable smoking!? 229 PPI as well... wow. The new iPad air is $999 AUD. What absolute clowns!

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  9 днів тому +2

      I think the 229 ppi isn't a huge deal, but obviously higher would have been better.
      But yes, the price is kinda crazy. I paid 850 Euros for the tablet, with the marker plus and the cover. Even though I got it for reviewing it here on the channel, it wasn't an easy buy with that price ...

    • @Krade289
      @Krade289 8 днів тому

      @@ChalidRaqami Don't get me wrong, I can see where they are going with the new colour screen. It's very interesting and exciting tech, but 850 Euros is $1415 AUD. For me that's a new 2024 iPad Air, an after-market keyboard case (a good one), and the new Apple pencil. I'm by no means an apple fan-boy, they have their own many flaws, but when you look at this product in it's most basic form, it is just a 'note taker.' The price is so absolutely ludicrous for what it actually does. Here's hoping they eventually lower the price, even $600 AUD I could swallow reluctantly, but nothing higher than that.

    • @Tanax13
      @Tanax13 5 днів тому

      @@Krade289 If you're just taking notes, an iPad Air is probably better since it's also a media consumption device. That's however also its downside. If you're into writing, you will want to prioritize things that add to that experience, as well as prioritize removing things that detracts from that experience. Both of which the reMarkable is leaps better than any iPad. So it depends on what you want. I say the price is quite justifiable, but it's also a niche'd product.

    I am unlikely to purchase this. It would not meet my particular needs, and the price is definitly a hurdle. • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  11 днів тому +5

      It's possible, but I doubt it tbh. Remarkable moved so many units in the past 4 years, that they most likely have some exclusive arrangement with E-Ink. Same as Amazon had with the 300 ppi E-Ink Carta screens.
      I suspect we'll see some 8 inch E-Ink Gallery 3 devices in 2024/2025 (Kindle Color), but no other 10 or 11 inch devices with that screen technology for at least a year. That's my guess at least ... ;)

    • @bzone237

      @@MarcelloBrancaIn terms of screen there are pros and cons to both. The Kaleido 3 screens on Boox devices have half the resolution for colour images and the colours are more washed out but the Gallery 3 on the Remarkable has a much slower full screen refresh and is more expensive. In terms of features, obviously Android wins hands down.

    Game changing would be price point of $299 basic RM Pro and $399 Pro with upgraded pen and folio. The feature & performance to price ratio is not on par with a used Ipad with a paper-like cover.

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  11 днів тому +11

      An LCD will always be cheaper, but IF the Remarkable Paper Pro's display is as paperlike and as responsive as regular B&W E-Ink, it'll change the landscape of the E-Ink market within a few years. So in my book (hehe) that's a game-changer - even if value for money might not be the best.

  • @matthias6933
    @matthias6933 11 днів тому +1

    I'm kind of glad that I picked up the RM2 for 350 euro back then, since they increased the pricing straight up to 450 euros just because they include their own Marker by default now, even though it was priced separately around 70 euros. That and the sudden change to the active pen of the Paper Pro feel like desperate attempts to force their own pens on the user while trying to undermine third party pens, which is a problem because all they offer is just these ergonomically very basic and thin markers. Completely unappealing to me.

    • @Tyraendiel
      @Tyraendiel 9 днів тому

      Changing to active pen is because of the colors on the screen. The screen is a custom stack of layers to achive they standards about suberb whriting experience. You can try any cheap active pen from third party. If it is not working, that is not because they desperately want you to buy thier own, but because they are simply not compatible with thier custom screen. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @matthias6933
      @matthias6933 7 днів тому

      @@Tyraendiel okay but who cares what their intentions are (it's clearly $$$ by being utterly lazy). My main problems are that there's huge feature disparity to third party pens now (if they can even work at all), since those don't have the same charging capabilities and they don't have a freaking selection of pens even though they just cannibalized the choice of those who don't like their basic ass markers.

      Jokes aside, I've looked at the documentation now. There is a developer mode. It's a Linux OS. If one puts in the time, one can do things. So it's not "closed" as such. You guys are right, my wording was incorrect.

      I don't use that word lightly, but E-Ink Gallery 3 with colored particles, in a device that will most likely sell in the hundreds of thousands, is definitely a game-changer for the E-Ink market. It's a game-changer because for the first time it brings colored E-Ink particles to the mainstream end-consumer market (I don't count the Bigme Galy, as it was a nice product that had a few issues).

They seem to be creeping closer and closer to being like an iPad or a Surface Pro but they are miles behind the latter two in terms of screen quality, vibrancy, contrast and use of wireless stylus pens If someone wants a better and more colourful screen, they should get an iPad. If they want a great pure-reading experience, get a Kindle or Kobo, which focus on the reading experience.
