    I would love to see how you close the gap between the plastic and the frame. My brother and I are getting ready to build a greenhouse using old windows and your GH is amazing! Don’t have a roundabout figure for how much would you used we are in the planning process now. Thank you for any and all suggestions!

    This is exactly the style of greenhouse I've been thinking about for a year now. All used windows. Watching yours go up so quickly and easily (thanks to the magic of UA-cam!) has inspired me once more to get out there and actively collect used windows! Also, I love your sense of humor and all the fun captions. 😊 (The "emotional table saw music" was happy and mellow, not tense and tragic, so I wasn't worried about an impending accident, thank you very much!) From your name, I wondered if you were located near me in northern California, but once I saw the snow, I knew you were far, far from here! Love your channel -looking forward to watching all your past stuff in the days ahead.

      hah yes we are about as far away from California as we could get! All the way over in CT ! It's too bad we are so far we have actually gathered up enough windows to build another greenhouse (for my mother-in-law) who then changed her mind! Hah. Maybe we will just build ourselves a second one!

    Hey John, Greetings from Down Under in the subtropics. I have been growing my seedlings under the cover of our entertainment area which has light but according to the legginess of my tomato seedlings, not enough. I have been looking for a cheap design and yours looks inspired for four simple reasons. 1. Lots of light. 2. Big Yellow doors (my favorite color). 3. Cheap 4. Some stained glass windows at the front. Cheers!

    Hi John!
    Love the work you did with this and of course the yellow doors!! We just got about 30 new casement windows in our house and would love to use the old ones like you did! We are about 45mins NW of you on a windy mountian! Feels more like a 7 zone and not 6b as claimed! One would think a town like Redding would more flexible and love to see it's residents be more sustainable etc! I have seen a number of folks lining the inside with think plastic to keep it a bit warmer.
    Would you think that would extend the season and allow you to do more with the the greenhouse?
    Stay warm and Enjoy your Holidays!

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  2 роки тому +1

      Hey there that sounds awesome you got so many windows!! And how cool you are so close! I think whether or not you wanted to line with plastic would depend on what you really want to have the main use of your greenhouse to be! We did most of our seed starting in it and having plastic lined would have been helpful in the beginning but as it starts to get warmer it was equally important to be able to cool the greenhouse (by opening windows) as it was to warm it. But if your purpose was to try to grow all winter, then absolutely I think lining it with plastic would be very helpful!

    Hi John, I found your channel from Rob Greenfield's video of you showing your greenhouse. I find it very interesting, since I have seen the idea of making the greenhouses from windows, but also because my maiden name is Redding! That caught my attention. Another idea that I have seen, which is similar, is making a small greenhouse using 4 doors put together in a square shape, with one door being able to be opened. I believe it just had layers of shelves inside. :)

      @OldReddingFarm  4 роки тому

      Hi Pat that is awesome I am so glad you stopped by (and had that connection!) That small rectangular greenhouse sounds awesome! Another thing I have seen people do is just set a window (or a door with windows) on top of a raised bed and put hinges on it so it can be opened and then it gives a little frost cover or heat help to beds in the winter! It is all awesome!

      Ugh yes we sure did ! Zoning but not building because it was under buildings size cut off. And then zoning required us to cut the 4x4s we had converted into the ground off at ground level.

    We are about to start.. About 12 by 14...have been collecting glass for three days and think I there included round and arched windows... What height is yours at waves and centre? And did you use breeze locks at base?

    Awesome!! You guys did a terrific job!
    I been collecting only double pane windows to build one, but I want windows even on the roof, maybe patio doors? Any ideas?

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  3 роки тому

      That sounds awesome! We thought about windows on the roof but decided not to because we were afraid the snow load would break the windows or branches/sticks would blow down and break windows. But if your greenhouse isn't around trees you wouldn't need to worry about that. And newer double pane windows probably would hold up better than older single pane windows! Sounds awesome! Good luck with it!

    Wow -- when you said 5 min. I had to see this. I see it wasn't literally 5 min but a speed version in 5 minutes. Haha. Anyway very talented you are. Thanks for sharing.

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  3 роки тому

      Hah yeah can only do it in 5 minutes on about 100,000x speed. Though if you just had 5 minutes you could put an old window on top of an existing raised bed and BOOM window greenhouse ! :)

    Loved watching this! Just wondering about the corrugated plastic roof: how do you join the panels? Also, aren't there gaps where those panels meet the wood?

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  6 днів тому

      Hey there, the panels can overlap on one or more of the corrugations, and they sell foam or wood fillers that you attach to the strapping of the roof to fill the gaps.

    Did you put the base down on top of the rocks? did you use any cement?
    Looks great.

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  11 місяців тому +2

      The 4*4's were originally sunk into cement and then the town came and said that we couldn't do that so we had to cut the 4*4's off at the case and now it's just sitting on the concrete bases in each of the 4 corners

    Thanks for replying to my question about dimensions, we have some new patio doors that were in storage, would they work? Also is there any need for ventilation? I’m enjoying your videos 🥰

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  3 роки тому

      I think absolutely ! The ventilation question depends a little on what you will use it for. You will need some no matter what but it can be simple like just leaving your patio doors open. If you want to try to grow throughout the summer you'll need a lot to keep it cool. We use it almost exclusively for starting seeds so it's more important to keep them warm.
