I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and we used to breakdance all the time in and around the hood. Never thought in my wildest dreams that something like this from our neighborhoods would be such a global phenomenon to the point that it's now an Olympic Sport. This is so freaking cool!!! I just wish I was back in my younger days again, I'd be right out there with them, not just competing but doing it for the love of it, while representing my country......I did that part in the U.S. Army (1995-2004), combat veteran (Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, 2003)!!!

@@thomasgrayson4609 same, I had a crew in the 80s and we used to walk and take the bus to perform and battle and carry our linoleum with us. We had a guy, Benny, who was every bit as good with the windmill as anyone today. It's really cool to see that break dancing has flourished.
I tried to get back out in my mid 30s and my body said nope.

I love how they just look like they’re having fun, and just happen to be at the olympic qualifiers.
I also love that they’re battling each other, those one on one events always add sportsmanship I don’t see in other sports, because you have to put all your attention on the other and respect their effort.

Usually it isn't completely scripted (while they have some sequences they do script) and is more of a freestyle to whatever the DJ plays. Ofc, some bboys are more scripted while others are much more dynamic and free. Additionally you have the whole battle element which one of the fundamental roots of breaking. Responding to the opponent and having a convo while dancing.

@@The_Reality_Filter yeah plenty have no idea about it dude skateboarding had a massive uprise in people skateboarding after it was on at the Olympic that’s shit inspires kids who watch it so yeah expect loads of 11 years old boys to be sat at home watching it and thinking wow this is amazing and wanting to do it … 11 year old boys are not really into synchronised swimming but sure enough a lot of the women who do it will have first watched on TV at the Olympics as it’s the same with every single athlete there

Break dance is really a natural,
    self-releassation, freedom dancing.
    No any cumbersome and affectation.

Whoa!!! 🤩 Growing up in the 80's, breaking on the playground on a piece of cardboard (with my little boom box playing a casette of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five), this sure does make my heart soar over the moon!!! ~But France's Junior 🇨🇵 might give us 🇺🇸 a run for it 😯!!! (Rooting for my B-girl, Logistix tho! 💯❤)

People dont realize the athleticism in break dance.... can they recognize the gymnastics in it....

  • @_Mr.D
    @_Mr.D 4 місяці тому +2

I dont know anything about the competition, so some of my thoughts may already be covered.
But I hope that like ice skating and gymnastics, they have certain moves that they have to incorporate to be comparatively judged on. Otherwise, it is way too subjective.
And they need men and women separate, cause obviously there are strength moves they can't probably perform.

Thank you to the founders of the 5 Elements.
That created this culture. Everyone is mix, no one is pure. Every human on this planet is mixed. It doesn't come down to a Specific race, religion, or color in the world of breaking. Breaking became what it has from biting other styles from Cultures around the world to making it its own. I am credibly thankful that I am alive today to witness break dancing in the olympics. I've been breaking since 1990 In queens, New York and 40 years old now, currently still break dancing. Let's continue to spread the love And show the world that this is only the beginning for us in the Olympics, so please be respectful.
And show them that we belong here

With the music playing , it feels cool. But when I look at the faces around me, I’d rather not know how it looks. 😂 I don't know what I'm doing. But i'm doing it!
