The bonus-filled 2-CD/1-Blu-ray Deluxe Edition offers a trove of a/v content, including the newly remastered album, 13 B-sides and rarities, a never-before-released 64-minute outdoor projection film (shown on buildings across five cities in 1996 to promote the album’s original release), and a previously unreleased 30-minute EPK. Additionally, the Blu-ray features New Adventures in Hi-Fi in stunning Hi-Res and 5.1 Surround Sound audio, plus five HD-restored music videos including “Bittersweet Me,” “Electrolite,” and “E-Bow the Letter.”
Housed in a 52-page hardcover book, the collection includes archival photographs-many of which have never been published-plus new liner notes from journalist Mark Blackwell and reflections from Bill, Peter, Mike and Michael, as well as from Patti Smith, Thom Yorke, and producer Scott Litt.
An Expanded Edition is also available as a 2-CD or digital collection, including the remastered album along with B-sides and rarities. The 2-CD offers an exclusive 24” x 24” poster and four collectible postcards, as well as a booklet featuring new liner notes and archival photos. Additionally, the newly remastered album will be available as a 2-LP set, pressed on 180-gram vinyl, with lacquers cut by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. Fans can preview all physical formats via the official unboxing trailer here. A limited-edition pressing on clear and black marbled vinyl is also available exclusively in the Official Store at REMHQ.com (limited to 1,000 worldwide), along with special New Adventures in Hi-Fi merchandise.

Every REM fan has their favorite albums, and it changed with each classic LP released. For me, it went from Reckoning to Document, to Automatic FTP to New Adventures.
With Bill Berry, they saved the best for last.
easily one of my all-time favorite albums ever as it's also one of my all-time favorite albums from r.e.m. i think it's in the top 5 with "automatic for the people", "murmur", "life's rich paegent", and "reckoning".
R.E.M are my new favourite band their music is amazinggggg all im saying is out the way Michael and his band are here.........they are all amazing thanks guys. Paul
Bill Berry's last, and one of REM's best. His departure convinced me that, for groups like Led Zep, The Who, and REM, their drummers were irreplaceable.
I think UP is a great work accentuated by the way they handled the departure of Berry.It is a beautifully flawed gem.
Plus , Bonham and Moon died through misadventure and booze.
Berry had no choice because of health reasons.
So you cannot demote Berry to that graveyard of Rock n Roll excess.

Feels like yesterday I laid on that beach in Italy in September 1996 listening to "E-bow the Letter" nonstop. On a walkman and tape! I recorded the song from the radio right before I went to Italy. :)

Same here. When Monster came out, was somewhat disappointed in REM for the first time as a long time fan. Then New Adventures comes out and blows me away; will never forget that time in my life.

They were on fire from '88-'96'. Four successive masterpieces starting with "Green", then this minor masterpiece to close out the run.
Yep. Their late 80's to mid 90's run was just incredible.
Yes, the Scott Litt Era, Document to New Adventures. I like almost all of their stuff from Chronic Town to Reveal, but that 9 year stretch was their peak. New Adventures could've been their last album, with Electrolite as their last song and it would've been a great ending. Of course I'm happy we got more though. I like most of Up and Reveal, they were just different and more experimental.

As a huge REM fan, particularly of the mid 90's era, i'd been looking forward to this and the Monster reissues the most!
But as a collector (sorry to be *that guy* ) i'm a bit disappointed there isn't anything new in the B-sides and rareities. The 5.1 Bluray and the previously unreleased 30-minute EPK will be awesome.
I think I saw a comment from Mike somewhere where he said they wrote and recorded this on the road and there really wasn’t much in terms of b-sides and rarities.

It's going to be tough resisting picking this one up, but I have a wall of cds, a tiny house, a tiny income, and I had to reign in my spending years ago.
But I love the album. Love the photography, too (New Adventures is framed on a wall with other favourite album covers), and I don't know, I should just borrow a page out of the younger me's book & get it along with my other favourite, the expanded Automatic edition.

The final album with Bill, and the last great album. It was a hell of a run, though.
Absolutely, always thought the same thing concerning Bill. For me, it was the final and most convincing proof that for most of the greatest rock groups (like Led Zep, The Who, and then REM), the drummers such as Bonzo Bonham, Keith Moon, and Bill Berry, are irreplaceable.

Momorandom It's underrated, no doubt, but I still thought "Reveal" was a borderline great album. After that one there was a pronounced quality drop-off though.
UP is my favorite (right after Automatic).

It's funny, that I learned that Bill Berry left R.E.M. at a Radiohead concert. I was sure that R.E.M. would split up as soon as somebody would leave the band, so I was in tears immediately. Thom Yorke then sung "So. Central rain" alone with an accoustic guitar as a tribute to Bill Berry. Such a sweet memory and very comforting in this situation. :)
Great album but automatic for the people, best album, period.
Automatic For the People is REM's masterpiece. I'd rank New Adventures 7th or 8th in their discography which is still high praise given the overall quality of their back catalogue.

I think New Adventures is the best stoner album in the REM catalog. Any others you all like in that regard?
It's a very immersive experience... but then REM specialised in that unique effect on the listener.

This was always a double LP in spirit if not practice in 1996--I will definitely be getting the vinyl of their last album with Bill Berry, ie their last great album. I thought ending their career with Electrolite's "I'm outta here" would have been a perfect career capper but they forged on. Not really a fan of their post-Berry work but a lot of people like it.

The Back Catalogue Grasp. I expected better.
Honestly, was hoping for more. My favorite album, so being an avid collector of all things Hi-Fi, I already have all the bonus cuts and videos. No use for the Blu-ray audio mixes. Disappointed there isn’t something here for me, after the stellar OoT, Automatic and Monster sets that all brought previously unreleased audio. This one…just collects what was already there, during a time when so much more is available. It’s fitting I guess, since Hi-Fi has always felt overlooked.
I was expecting and looking forward to a remix like Monster. Pretty disappointing

A lot of people do see it as their greatest album.But with REM.....once you name one album of theirs...you want to add another...then another...
Well, certainly this album was not as big as "Out of time" or "Automatic for the people" but still, it did quite well in sales and in charts, I checked... R.e.m. is a huge band who sold millions of copies of each album they made... and I don't think "underrated" can apply to anything r.e.m.... If you want to call something "underrated" go find a great album that sold only a few hundred copies... there's lots and lots of stuff like that
For me, "underrated" doesn't just refer to sales but also to the general esteem that an album is held in by critics, fans and general public.
It's REM's white album. I'm really looking forward to owning this on double vinyl.
