Blockbuster/video stores were cool. Something about trolling around for those movie you'd never heard of, reading about em, asking the store employees about em. It was nice. You ran into some out-there stuff. You can still get more-or-less the same result today with the right threads and torrents, but going out irl and physically doing it with your buddies was pretty fun. It was like foreplay before the movie. It set the stage, got you in the mood.
Ken thats called being overwhelmed by choices lol. Theres too many. Theres an actual named phenomena where people are incapable of choosing so just choose nothing
12:18 What Ken is describing is actually called decision fatigue. When presented with a huge variety of choices to make, your brain spends a lot of mental energy trying to pick one, and when you finally make that decision, you feel like you regret your choice, because there were so many other options you missed out on. Less really is more.
I didn’t get my first smartphone until 5 years ago. I remember being told go play outside with a snack and drink and told not to come back in for 3 hours. Kids today and in the future are never gonna want to be outside: they’ll see it as punishment, and that’s unfortunate
I never had Blockbuster, but I did have this old store that my family went to back in like, 2008 or something, that closed down during the rise of digital movies. I'm almost 15, enjoying myself some 90s Spider-Man cartoons on Disney+, and still miss going to that store. The old building is still there, closed down and abandoned, and I just have a brief rush of nostalgia every time I see it.
The gaming opinion is so correct. People don't get to sit in the same room and game together anymore. You are just a disembodied voice in a headset, which can be fine at times, but not all the time. My ex-boyfriend literally played his ps4 constantly, you could not get him to do anything else. He is 26. No job. Lives with his parents. I miss Blockbuster because it was a single payment for specific movies/games you choose that day, and you could keep for up to a week. If you were lucky, you could rent a new release and play the full game for a fraction of the cost of buying it outright, or at least play enough to know if you want to fully purchase it to play at your leisure. Nowadays you gotta subscribe to something and pay monthly no matter how many movies you watch or games you play. You have to either look up reviews or playthroughs to determine if you want to buy a $40 to $80 game, or just bite the bullet and risk wasting that money because you didn't want to see spoilers.
