    I attend media studies at the University of Freiburg. In my introductory lectures, I missed the entire idea of what media theorists are trying to say while dealing with popular culture. Thanks to this channel and, in particular, to this video for consistent clarification and content visualization. It's absolutely enthralling!

    I was able to pass my Cold War module by focusing on pop culture instead of news sources. Music, movies adverts Reflect the belief + ideals of the society by what they say and don’t say

    Wisdom teaches to sample very little what the mass media communicates. Mass media reinforces cultural norms.

    • @zapatasghost
      @zapatasghost 6 років тому

      Mass media in the West are corporate dominated - so they reinforce a corporatized set of cultural norms. It's essentially pro-business propaganda. Many on the "cultural right" such as homophobes would attempt to argue that the prevalence of LGBTQ-affirming programming is evidence of a "liberal" bias - which may be the case in that very narrow analysis and in specific cases. But the corporate media will never undermine corporate/business interests even while being more culturally "open-minded." God forbid you give class conscious gays any air time! As such, I appreciate AlJazeera's funding model which, therefore, makes programming like this possible DESPITE the power of corporate dominance.

    The flashy cut-out visuals and frantic jazz music made it very hard to focus on what the narrator was saying. Hopefully this changes in future videos.

    3:00 - " different realities "

    • @Freak_Gamer
      @Freak_Gamer 7 років тому

      Why not? Reality is not something that just exists it changes depending on how you view the world, everyone has a different reality and perception of the world.

    • @Eustace__Bagge
      @Eustace__Bagge 7 років тому

      @freak gamer-> sir. you just described the word "opinion".
      "changes depending on how you view the world" -> that's how opinions work.
      "everyone has a different reality and perception of the world" -> no, this is absolutely a false claim.
      if anything: "everyone has a different perspective from their own view point of the world and hold to their own different opinions *WITHIN THE SAME REALITY* ".
      and if you still think that i'm wrong, try this: in your message - if you replace the word "reality" with the word "opinion" the meaning of the sentence doesn't change - and that's why when you use the word "reality" -> you're really just expressing again the word "opinion".

    • @Freak_Gamer
      @Freak_Gamer 7 років тому +1

      An opinion is something that you have and that you can change at will, the reality on the other hand can only be affected by the world around you.

    • @Eustace__Bagge
      @Eustace__Bagge 7 років тому

      you are not consisted buddy.
      your first message: "Reality is not something that just exists IT CHANGES DEPENDING ON HOW YOU VIEW THE WORLD".
      your second message: "reality on the other hand CAN ONLY BE AFFECTED BY THE WORLD AROUND YOU".
      which is it ?! does it change depending on your view point or by the world around you ?!?!?
      just read what i wrote, it makes sense... please get out of that mindset of "i cant admit i'm wrong at any cost".....

    • @Freak_Gamer
      @Freak_Gamer 7 років тому +1

      And the way that you view the world can only be affected by others.
      Only you can view your reality but only others can affect it.
