Quick question: do the Bluecoats ever take on summer interns for the sound team? This is exactly the type of stuff I want to do in my career and the Bluecoats are the ones setting the standard in the field it seems.
Honestly this is a really neat video ! Interesting mix of theater-type sound work and live sound. It would be so cool to be a sound intern for the Bluecoats !
Great video! What brand and wattage is the portable battery in the synth cart? And is this battery used as the primary power source for performances or just as backup? Thanks for all the behind the scenes footage! Also, 8:23 was crazy!
just a question: is there any delay between a mic'd instrument playing a note and the speaker outputting the sound? if so, how do you deal with it, do you have them play slightly earlier than normal, or is the delay not significant enough to be noticed?
There’s actually no noticeable delay at all, both on the wireless mics on the field and the wired mics that we have in the bloopit. It all just fits together seamlessly once it’s connected
No ones mic is on the entire time. There is just an input delay on the channel for when we need it, based on the set they are in. It is not a common practice to have performers play early. They just play directly on the hands. - Colten
Also, the front ensemble (pit) has mics that are almost always on. Their signals from the mic move at the speed of light. And delay is added to everything to match it with the front speakers.
At around 2:47 seconds you can see all the antenna just wonder what they all do? Also there is a grey pole with a white end on it just under his left arm. What is that?

Well first, in order to get such a position, one must unload their bowels into the legendary George Hopkins Mouth.
It’s fascinating to see how complex the infrastructure behind these shows is.
This is amazing.
Yeeesss, im always curious what corps use for their audio setups, my type of video
The only audio we had in 1980 was a boom box on the drum bus playing
Gino Vannelli for the entire summer! Ha!

LET'S GO BLOOOOOO!!
I always wonder how it takes for the microphones to connect to the speakers and the synthesizers as well
What kind of wireless mics do you use for the horns?

@@Bluecoats thank you!

The antenna is for the wireless mic systems to communicate with soloists a bit easier since there is less front ensemble interfering with the signal.
What happens when the power go out? Lol
They Carry their own generators and backup batteries.
