The way this song ends is unbelievable. "I don't wanna do it unless you're." And it just ends there, like he can't muster the strength to say it. Love the creativity with this song! I like it when they go out of the box, even if it's risky.
Lyrics-[ Verse 1] There was this time when I was thinkin' bout somthin' inside And you could think they're singing that you want And everything about you, everything's and get this on my mind I'm crazy now You got this some days and out of town to get this step right It still get my heartache, yeah There’s so much give and get and you’ve come and gone And turn it down tonight [Chorus] An empty house Time to get myself back home Nothing but an empty house Living without you An empty house Time to get myself back home Nothing but an empty house Living without you [Verse 2] You got this thing about you Everything I think about you Is gonna go and make me something else You've been a smile on my face For about the two past days You believe it's true And I believe it too And everything's gonna be alright When you say I I've got this thing about you [Chorus] An empty house Time to get myself back home Nothing but an empty house Living without you An empty house Time to get myself back home Nothing but an empty house Living without you An empty house Time to get myself back home Nothing but an empty house Living without you [Verse 2] You got this thing about you Everything I think about you Is gonna go and make me something else You've been a smile on my face For about the two past days You believe it's true And I believe it too And everything's gonna be alright When you say I I've got this thing about you [Chorus] An empty house Time to get myself back home Nothing but an empty house Living without you An empty house Time to get myself back home Nothing but an empty house Nothing but an empty house Nothing but an empty house [Verse 3] There was this time in my life You had this minute But it lasted oh for many days (And I don't know what that is) But everybody knows that I'm about to mumble out some... And that's the last time I could say it with a straight face I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow And baby, I don't wanna do it unless you're...
If you notice in the lyrics, he doesn't complete sentences. Like, its too painful. "...thats the last time I can say it with a straight face, I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow. Baby I don't don't want to do it unless your". The whole song is written with such intent, Matt is a wonderful and Ingenious song writer. Makes me so happy.
I just moved to NY, where I sit in my apartment most days, not having made many friends yet. And it is insane how relevant this song is to me. The autotune just adds an incredibly sad sound to it. Which is how this song should sound. I think it's the closest you can get to singing and yet still weeping at the loneliness you feel when you're alone.
I cant help but wonder if the symbolism in the unfinished autotuning of this song represents the incomplete feeling he has of being in the empty house without her, or Without God, whichever he meant... man that's crazy deep.
"I can't keep a straight face and say this is not the end." "Time to get myself back home... That's the last time I could say it with a straight face..." I feel like their other song, If You Want It, and this song are connected.
Sigh... this is one of my favorite songs. ;-; Matt and Matt, you never cease to touch my heart no matter where it may be, throughout all these years. Keep doing what you do.
This song is so relevant to me in a lot of ways. My house is full of family and friends, an yet, sometimes I feel empty on the inside. When I move out soon, it will represent itself in a more physical way. Matt, you clever bastard. I wasn't completely on board with this album originally, but after seeing RK in concert in Marion, and seeing how passionate they were, i gave it another go, and have been sold since.
I'm nothing but an empty house. Trying to find my way to make myself home again. But I'm still living with you, and I know I will be for years to come..

This song reminds me of the seperation of my ex fiance who fell out of love with me... church doesn't feel the same again... it just feels like an empty house
That's usually how it's used! Matt can sing already. Only people who can sing sound good with it. I know people think T-pain (the prime example) can't sing or whatever, but have you watched his NPR tiny desk concert.. so good and it's only him and that keyboard... (and no auto tune)
At first listen I thought so too, no need for the auto-tune, but then I wondered if there was a deeper reasoning behind why Matt wanted to use it. It definitely does contribute to some diversity within the album, which is a very noticeable aspect as you change from song to song within Air For Free. .
Hey Thiesson/Hoopes,This is a great song, but there are like no good lyrics for it. I was just trying to play this on the ukulele, but A-Z lyrics version is extremely messed up, and so is Genius'. The Auto-Tune sounds great, but it kinda jumbles it. Any chance of you guys clearing this up, possibly by posting the lyrics to the album, possibly on Facebook or something?I don't know how much work that is... if you don't write digitally than that might take too much time, but otherwise, you wouldn't think it's too much work to copy and paste?
Sorry for being a month late, but this song is literally just him rambling gibberish at many points; the lyrics weren't complete at all when he recorded it. But they liked the feel of the song and didn't want to change it.
My thoughts are that it's intentional. The song is about a guy sitting in an empty house kind of going crazy, so maybe the lyrics are supposed to be incoherent? I don't know lol that's the only defense I could think of.
I have a lyrics site and I've posted all the coherent lyrics. I will update them if anyone knows what else should go where - relientklyrics.weebly.com/empty-house.html
Auto-tune is more than a vocal crutch... People don't say negative stuff about guitar effects. It's the same thing. Tools that create different sounds.
@@barbaro267 That's the thing...we know he can sing, so it's obviously an artistic choice. It really puzzled me why he decided to use autotune but the more I listen to it the more I can't even picture the song without it, idk.
....wow. Matt Thiessen has such an amazing voice, but why the auto tune? Due to its inclusion, this song is probably my least favorite Relient K. this whole album is a real letdown to me. I've never been unhappy listening to RK until I heard this album
Wooden Films I own Collapsible Lung as well as all of their other albums. I was not terribly impressed with it either, though, but the songs on there made me happy. I love Relient K, though, so I'm still gonna buy the album.
Before passing judgment, understand how his album ties Forget and Not Slow Down, Collapsible Lung, and Air For Free together into a beautiful trilogy. FANSD was about his heart wrenching breakup with his fiancé and the loneliness but hope he still felt. Collapsible Lung rose to one of my favorites because it's such a brutally honest album about how he turned away from God and the vices he turned to in an attempt to find solace. The final track ties it together because he admits that between the miles of open road, he lost sight of what might matter most and stumbled into the great unknown. The whole album is disorganized and discordant, but becomes a masterpiece when you see why it was made. It's truly beautiful. Air For Free is lyrically impressive and ties together many beautiful themes including recognizing his mortality, his morality, and his turn back to God and finding love. These last three albums have been an amazing journey. Try to listen to each album after each other.
***** You have very good insight on this, but I don't think I was passing judgment on anyone or anything. My words are merely coming from the critical side. Like I said, I'm still gonna buy it.
+grindcoremaniac perhaps considering it "a real letdown" was enough for me to consider you passing judgment on the album. It's no worry, and I apologize if I had approached that incorrectly. I hope you can enjoy the album for what it is!
The way this song ends is unbelievable. "I don't wanna do it unless you're." And it just ends there, like he can't muster the strength to say it. Love the creativity with this song! I like it when they go out of the box, even if it's risky.
Hey Everyone. Great song! FILL IN THE BLANK "Baby, I don't want to do it unless you're _______."
Everything is gonna be alright when you say, "I ___."
I wouldn't change anything at all for this song. Not the auto-tune nor the incomplete lyrics. This is a small gem.
The song is great, but i can't stand auto-tune
Lyrics-[ Verse 1]
There was this time when I was thinkin' bout somthin' inside
And you could think they're singing that you want
And everything about you, everything's and get this on my mind
I'm crazy now
You got this some days and out of town to get this step right
It still get my heartache, yeah
There’s so much give and get and you’ve come and gone
And turn it down tonight
[Chorus]
An empty house
Time to get myself back home
Nothing but an empty house
Living without you
An empty house
Time to get myself back home
Nothing but an empty house
Living without you
[Verse 2]
You got this thing about you
Everything I think about you
Is gonna go and make me something else
You've been a smile on my face
For about the two past days
You believe it's true
And I believe it too
And everything's gonna be alright
When you say I
I've got this thing about you
[Chorus]
An empty house
Time to get myself back home
Nothing but an empty house
Living without you
An empty house
Time to get myself back home
Nothing but an empty house
Living without you
An empty house
Time to get myself back home
Nothing but an empty house
Living without you
[Verse 2]

But everybody knows that I'm about to mumble out some...
And that's the last time I could say it with a straight face

Thanks so much for this, there are parts of this I still can't comprehend and it's great to have it all spelled out!
This is a really cool use of auto tune honestly; this song is criminally underrated 😳
If you notice in the lyrics, he doesn't complete sentences. Like, its too painful.

well said and hang in there
Hey you'll make some friends soon. Wish you the best!
Praying for you.
2 years later.. how are you doing? How's life treating you?
Right here with you brother. Moved to New mexico to wait for my love as it's her duty base. It's lonely as hell without her.

I didn't realize that till I read your comment! :'O I agree!!
Oh WOW, I never made that connection. Man his music is just on another level. Wow.

The "and I don't know what that is..." part lol that's the best 👍🏼👏
One of favs from the album. The autotune adds so much emotion to the song, it's great
I had a dream last night that I really wanted to listen to this song, and I couldn't find it anywhere, like it didn't exist.
I know a lot of people hate the autotune. But I probably wouldn't like this song as much if it didn't have it. One of my favorites from the album.
The autotune in this case helps the song in this one
This song is so beautiful
ohhh i love this one!!!
Why does this song hurt so much?
Maybe it's the lag of complete lyrics?
So good, so right, so Relient K!
I love them. ❤

I love this!
Best song ever!!!!!
this song is good.I love the auto tune on it.love you guys.keep up the good work.you rock
Ooo cool effect/plugin around 1min8sec when vocals go up an octive. Sounds like crazy reverb
Best song on the album!!
love this song bruh
Am I going crazy, or does the sun pulse with brightness?
You're right!!
that is crazy
This song is definitely my favorite on the album! Aside from Air for Free of course!
Lol, just by your username I would've guessed Air For Free would be one of your favorites. It sounds a lot like Owl City to me.
beautiful
Rookie of the Year !
This song reminds me of the seperation of my ex fiance who fell out of love with me... church doesn't feel the same again... it just feels like an empty house
A good song!
💯
perfect use of autotune
That's usually how it's used! Matt can sing already. Only people who can sing sound good with it. I know people think T-pain (the prime example) can't sing or whatever, but have you watched his NPR tiny desk concert.. so good and it's only him and that keyboard... (and no auto tune)

Beautiful 💝
GENIOOOOO TOTALES!!

+Adam Kennedy yea it's cool that it's something different but I'd like to hear an acoustic version too
+Joshua Rose I share your sentiment.
I just don't understand what he's sayin some parts
YES! I hope they put out a raw version. Just Matt T and the piano would be amazing!
this auto-tune fits the song. i think an artist should prove they can sing before they use auto-tune. Matt has totally done that of coarse
very true
So much for my singing career...
this song is good.I like it.
De mis favoritas
wow... sadly love it
Can anyone post the right lyrics? Please!
I miss you but I don’t want to.
no voice tweak would be perfect, but for what it is with it, i still appreciate it, still an incredible song
Parts of this seem like it could be related to the first Chapter of A Grief Observed by CS Lewis to bad the rest is all gibberish

Buy the CD or the LP, I bet they'll be in there. If not I will be sad. I plan on singing these words til the next album comes
Sorry for being a month late, but

@@BrandonBabbitt THANK YOU!! These are the best I've found!!
I would listen to a whole album of Matt being autotuned.
sounds like Kanye
I like it tho
Perfect use of autotune!!
I love classic Relient K, but this sound repulses me.
This song is a miss for sure, but the rest of this album is an absolute masterpiece, the best they've ever put out by ten miles.
Some people don't like that autotune. Some people =/= me
These guys know what they're doing ^^
It's just that we know that Matt Theissen can sing...so there is no reason for autotune.
barbaro267 He definitely can sing, but the autotune is a style choice that works well with the song

The auto tune is kind of a way to show the loss of humanity
