what a rolling pile of crap is what i know you will say
Fun Fact: 63% of pickup truck owners report never towing a god damn thing ever
I'mma be honest you shouldn't have an electric car if you don't have a house or somewhere to charge it at home that just sounds like a bad idea lol
Yep nobody wants this electric sh*t in the Hood, ask how I know...
You shouldn’t have one in general
its a scam..liberal one
Always thought that back in the day when I'd see a trailer with a couple jetskis or a Ski boat parked at a apartment complex.
In major cities there are car charging stations, so it can be viable. Especially if your work has one in its parking garage or something.
Still a valid point. 3 days to charge at his apartment. That’s crazy. Good thing this guy is just leasing it.
I love my lightning. I've owned mine for over a year. Now 20k miles later and I have jave no regrets. I charge at home with a level 2 charger mostly. From 0-100% costs about 10 bucks. It really is an awesome ride.
I agree completely. I am not sure where all these people that come out of the wood work that tow loads hundreds of miles every day. If you do, Scotty is right, this truck is not for you. But for the rest of us that go no further than 50 miles a day, need to pick up things from Home Depot here and there, and tow once in a blue moon, you won't find a better truck. For a work truck, storing and charging tools in the frunk is a game changer. Having no maintenance, never go to a gas station, and gain 300 miles of charge for $10. I don't get the needless hate. Like I can say about any car, it's not for everyone. But for those that fit its use case (which is a lot of people) this thing is awesome.
I’ve got one coming as well speak I’m excited to have one
@@TheAntiqueFarmeri like em. In platinum form
@@moth450 I’m sure I would too lol but with my brother being the sales man and there still being 23 models on lots my lease payments gonna be $400 or less. Can’t beat that for a brand new pickup
Hello fellow lightning user. Same here brother. However, charging to 100% always is bad for the battery on the long run. 90% is usually always fine. Stay strong soilder.
When Scotty said, "It fell off" reminds me of Ron White's act when he was talking about how Sears Automotive Center did the same thing and forgot to tighten one of his wheels. He said the same thing but added an expletive to his sentence.
I’ll be honest. When you live in a place like California, where it is not uncommon to see gas nearing $7 to $8 Per gallon during Summer and fall months, even the inflated electricity we pay, it still saves driving this thing. I do have one, but also have a Duramax Diesel 3.0, which is excellent on fuel. But for distances with 100-150 miles, the Lightning can be a great option.
So basically it's just a gigantic golf cart.
If you do the math with California gas prices and electricity rate, and driving a Lightning 15,000 miles per year would save $5,000 per year in energy costs.
The fact that they have the ability to shut the truck off on you should make everyone uneasy, and if you believe that the only time they would do that is if you didn't make a payment, you've got another thing coming with the way our government is going. Creepy. People better wake up and start pushing back against this stuff.
Yep
Tesla can do that too
If you look into it this is actually going to be a government mandated thing on all new vehicles...
@@curtiswhite7880 Not my vehicle lol.
Exactly!
I work on a ford lot myself. We got one in July of this year and in November, it’s still here! We at one point had 2 of them on the used lot that were trade ins (one was a 22 and the other was a 23). We sell the regular f150s like hotcakes but not the lightning.
The type of people that get excited for trucks, and the type of people that get excited for electric vehicles are not the same. I can see why Ford made it, but it should have been obvious from the begining that they were going to sit on lots.
@@fluxcap4630 yep. I completely agree. And the fact that Consumer Reports rated it as the most unreliable new vehicle you can buy is crazy because the thing has about 5 moving parts. How you mess that up so bad is actually impressive
@@jordanseay216 🤣
The only thing I actually like about these trucks are their lockable storage space and torquey acceleration. Aside from that I’ll stick with gas for as long as I can. The hybrids are okay.
If Ford was smart, they would use an actual engine as a generator that would charge the batteries which would allow the electric motor go for much, much longer. Something like RAM will be doing. Good concept but I prefer a gas powered truck. Also Jim Farley took a road trip in the F150 EV and he didn't like it lol
My mother once drove home 10 miles from the garage with loose lug nuts. “My car is shaking!” Gee, I wonder why! I tightened them up for her and I don’t think she ever went back there.
At least the Ford dealerships are consistent... I took my 2015 F-250 in for its oil change and tire rotation. When I got home, just for giggles, I put my torque wrench on a wheel and all the lug nuts were torqued to 80 ft-lbs. Spec is 160 ft-lbs for my vehicle. When I brought this to the service manager's attention, I got no apology, only the explanation that they must have used an F-150 torque tube instead of the F-250 one. He said if I brought it in he'd be glad to re-torque all the lug nuts. Duh???? Why would I do that if I'm checking my vehicle with my own torque wrench? I've never been back.
Apparently, they (the Ford dealership) don't care that their Tech didn't do what he was supposed to do. Sad!
The Ford dealership lied to you. Just put my winter tires on my 2015 F 150. Tire torque is 150 lbs.
But im curious, why dont you do your own oil changes? You save money, and you csn use better oil and a better filter ,and you know its done right
had one mechanic leave fluid hose loose and pump bolts lose all in one day, another mechanic left a spark plug pinched in between a head gasket, can't win
@@richsweeney1115 sucker is born everyday) it applies to you with better oil crap.. all oil in USA is the same, as long as it has that seal stamp it meats oil quality, and there is no such thing as better oil. I use cheap Walmart oil centerthech in my ford vans and bothe of them crossed 500K miles mark on original engines.. but if you want to be a sucker go buy most expensive oil such as a Mobil 1 or racing crap.. looll.
I love my 2023 Maverick Basic (LX) Hybrid. Inexpensive and 40+ MPG so far in mixed driving.
I agree. I like the Mav so much I bought 2 that I show on my videos. Both for a lot less than 1 Lightning.
Why all the hate for EV in the comments? The folks I know with them absolutely love them, but their driving habits match the EV. If you’re towing heavy loads, or constant long distance trips, an EV isn’t likely for you. Short haul commutes, odd long trip, short towing or plan before you go then why not an EV? Scotty makes it sound like everyone uses trucks for work and towing, if you do don’t buy a lightening if it’s going to interrupt your workflow. For others it’s great. FWIW ICE is not sustainable, we need to move to cleaner sources of energy (not just in cars) and we’ll eventually run out of oil anyway. For all you UA-cam climate change experts, worst case is we get cleaner air to breath.
You have asked the right question.
I have three cars. 15 years old, 21 years old, and 25 years old. All well maintained and run fine. Buy and hold as long as you can probably does more for the environment by not getting new cars every 6 or 7 years than all the crackpot electrification nuts. If you look at the life cycle of electrics from mining of lithium through disposal of dead batteries, probably not much of a friendly environmental impact overall.
Have you noticed that every time Scotty drives an EV he always remarks about how fun it is to drive? There's nothing nutty or crackpot about owning a vehicle that's fun to drive.
Oh I'm sure they are a blast to drive. But how much cost and inconvenience is that fun worth to you? Especially when fun gas options still exist. @@dansanger5340
@@dansanger5340 A GT250 is fun to drive but I wouldn't own one.
Ev are a big joke I don't believe they would last 206000 miles plus and be on 12 years
Environmentally speaking it doesn't matter how long you personally own an EV because it will still be on the road with the next owner.
EVs "pay off" the higher carbon production cost of the battery, ICEVs never do, the more ICEVs are driven the worse they are for the environment. Environmentally speaking the best thing to do for an ICEV is to crush it and recycle it into an EV. Of course that's not the best thing for the owner economically.
Battery disposal is not an issue, batteries are first repurposed for stationary storage, and ultimately recycled at the end of their second life. Battery recycling companies are able to recycle >90% of a battery. So everything that is being mined (once) can be used again and again in future generations of batteries. Thus the environmental cost of these future generations of batteries is also much much less.
Many people own pickup trucks and tow once or twice a year. If they can charge at home, buy it. Or wait until it has a NACS port and 250kW speed so that it can be charged at any Tesla Supercharger, which is very very reliable and fast.
I find it funny that most people that actually own and drive an EV daily say pretty much the exact opposite of everything you say in your review...
these people don't drive very far, so that's the reason. It's not ideal to have to own one car for long trips and another for local.
@@gregf1299 That claim is obvious fiction. I have driven my EV 600 miles in a single day, and take it on 600 mile road trips regularly. People that think EV's can't be driven 1000 miles in a single day have never actually owned one.
The current EV record is driving from NY to Los Angeles in 42 hours, which is 2800 miles.
@@redbaron6805 how long was the charge stop(s)?
True. You get different answers when you try to make things work then when you try to trash things
@@gregf1299 Well my wife has a PHEV car for trips and my truck stays local for my business. Perfect setup for us.
If you have a Tesla Model 3 and charge it at home in your garage during off-peak hours, it costs $9 to go 300 miles.
Millions of Americans don't have the privilege of a personal garage
25% of vehicles the require charging will collapse the electric grid
@@Argedis Stop with this absurd Garage nonsense. My Level 2 Charger is outside just like Public Chargers. You just need a private place to permanently park.
@@Neojhun It's not nonsense and most people without a garage can't even park right next to their home even if they have one.
Do you want them to to run an extension cord to the street through sidewalks? To the parking lot?
You're the one being absurd. Since you have your own private place to charge you don't really care about other's problems.
How many miles in northeast in February?
🎵 You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel... 🎵
OMG now that song wil be stuck in my head THANKS
Eh nice...nice 🤠
You start out the video saying the truck normally gets 300 miles on a charge, but now that it's cold it only gets 210 miles.
That truck is a standard range truck. It has a 230 mile range. The other complaint is the guy is spending too much money charging. He probably shouldn't own an EV. It's not practical for people that can't charge at home. The other complaint is towing range sucks. That's true... if you tow you probably shouldn't buy one.
The Maverick hybrid you recommend only has a 2,000lb tow rating - so that's probably not ideal either.
Scotty, you have just reinforced my feelings of electric vehicles. No thanks! Thanks to your channel I bought a 2018 Avalon used in 2020. A 28,000 mile vehicle for 60% of it’s original price. I have had to buy tires, oil and filters. That’s it! Runs perfectly!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! We appreciate you!
I bought my dad an Avalon recently. They're great cars. I also got my son a new Rav4 XLE Hybrid for graduating college. It gets 41 mpg,, has all-wheel-drive, and rides really nice.
@@zzanatos2001 Can't go wrong with a Toyota....my wife and I have been married for 33 years and that is all we have owned and she and her family owned all Toyota's before she met me. The one exception is my F-250 Super Duty (gasser) that we use to pull our 5th wheel. If Toyota had made a 3/4 ton truck when I bought this Super Duty in '17, I would have bought it. Toyota could have named it the Grand Tundra HD or something like that.
If you have two vehicles (yes a luxury), or just need a car that does 90% commuting EVs are awesome. They are quite on the road and will save you money in the longterm. But that is only for smaller sedans. Large Evs are worthless. So if you are someone who needs a truck. Stay far away.

@@kckettridgeNO COMPLAINTS WITH MY SUBARU FORESTER AND MY CROSSTECK 💪🏼😎🥳 EITHER 🎉
A handyman buys an expensive fully electric pickup truck for business and is incapable of installing a cheap level 2 charger at his house. Now I’ve seen it all. 😂
Maybe he rents, right?
Scotty says right at the start ... he doesn't have a house.
He didn't buy the truck, he is leasing it. Also, he probably lives in an apartment complex.
And if you own a house and don't have a garage, often a 220VAC 50amp pigtail out in the open lawn or driveway violated city or county electrical codes.
My daughter lived in a quaint turn of the century traditional village with few garages. However they are wealthy, trendy yuppies...so they buy EVs. I have seen orange extention cords or romex staked with wire stakes out the side windows and onto the driveway or parking pad...with a charger cobbled onto a wooden post. Sometimes a quick trench to bury it raw. Also just loose extentions strewn out.
I also see the city utility meter readers and electrical inspector red tagging the plug and taping citations to the front door.
Many jurisdictions don't allow cowboy setups for 40 or 50 amp boat plugs in yards.
for a lease?
Scotty is trying so hard to not like the Lightning.
He's got both sides covered he does Pro Evie videos and anri-EV videos
@@rp9674 He overemphasizes the towing and long trip shortcomings. It's perfect if you need a truck and drive 95% of your driving within 50-75 miles of your home and are willing to install a dedicated 220V oultet in your garage to charge overnight. Not much to maintain and save tons on fuel.
Wise up America, you're being played. Thanks Scottie.
Reminds me of the period when Obama ordered that all those older than late model cars off the road, in a way it was sort of a bail out for the big 3, I don't feel like a lot of those newer cars were much of an upgrade, not seeing how much more unreliable a lot of the "more modern" cars are becoming, what's the term, ________ obsolescence, my memory really sucks!
@@andrewphillips8790 Obama didn't "order" any vehicles off the road. There was a program where older vehicles were being taken off the road and scrapped and you got a credit towards a new one. No one forced anyone to give up anything.
People forget that there are massive improvements to cars over time. Besides better fuel economy, there are massive structural and safety upgrades making the car far safer in a crash.
In fact, data is showing that a large portion of serious injuries and deaths in traffic accidents is due to people driving older cars with obsolete crash safety standards and lacking modern safety upgrades.
love people that choose to lose there freedom by needing to be told by their supreme leader what should power the vehicle they drive. How about for those people that don't drive long distances and want to pay $10 to fill up their truck, want amazing performance and comfort, they buy a lightning. For those people that need to tow long distances, they go out and buy a big diesel. Imagine...the freedom to choose what you want or need... Hopefully your political parties don't start telling you what underwear you should wear too.
Scottie has his ICE bias. Don't forget that.
@@alraguc Its one thing to have bias, and something completely else to spread ignorance. It's like bashing people that buy diesel semi trucks because all you need is a car. guess what, the world doesn't revolve around you and people have different use cases for their vehicles. Then you have the political crazy's that ironically lose their freedom by not being able to buy something that may work better for them. It must be exhausting living this way. I would love to watch these people grocery shop. (No we can't buy those beans, they are republican... Put those peas back, they're grown by democrats). just silly stuff. I have a fleet of vehicles from gas to diesel to electric. They are tools. No different than using a hammer when you need a screw driver. Each tool excels at its own thing. They have a place. I think they are a great alternative for city workers.
Most “real truck guys” don’t even use their truck for truck things!😂 there are more mall crawlers than hunting rigs. Sure there are work trucks, but most of these trucks never see a dirt road let alone a trail. My escape has done more off roading than all the trucks at my work’s parking lot combined 😂
Guilty
I am one of those, but I bought my truck not for going off road. I bought it because it goes with my personality. I feel no guilty.
I ordered the Lightning PRO (work truck model) back in August for our landscaping business. Vinyl seats and floor is what we need. We get dirty! Only options: bed liner and 240V power in the bed. Cost: $53,785 including options and shipping. $46,285 after the Federal tax credit.
Don't need to pay $10,000 for a bigger battery since the standard battery has plenty of range for our work. Charge it at night. Never a problem. Great fleet solution. I added a 240V circuit since this isn't our first EV rodeo...
We bought the 240V option as a silent generator for when the power goes out. We set up a generator transfer switch and added another 240V circuit that will feed power from the truck to the main panel in a blackout. The frunk is great additional locked, waterproof storage. No need for tonneau cover or WeatherGuard box taking up bed space.
The water is fine over here on the EV side, come give it a try!
@@davidhiles8823 I knew someone was going to love their lightning! Right on man, I’d buy a smaller cheaper ranger model if they made them.
@@davidhiles8823 So I helped you buy your truck through that federal tax credit. You're welcome.
I don't blame you for taking advantage of it, but I feel the industry should stand on its own. I never got a rebate for anything I ever bought to drive.
" ... recall their mechanic too"
Friend has had one for just over a year here in Ontario, Canada. He has the extended battery, 130 KW. We have tiered pricing here, with reduced overnight rates. He pays 8 cents/KWH. That makes a full charge 10$. He never has to use a public charger. He is even able to use it in winter to go over 160 km to his cottage and never use a Supoercharger. He has a charger there too. His range is 500 km. In winter he loses about 1/3 of the range, leaving him with over 300km.
These things work great and are very convenient and affordable to operate if you have a 240V charger at home and can avoid using the Supercharger networks. We even have an option for ultra low overnight rates for electricty as low as 2 cents/KWH...That would make a fill-up $2.60 to go 500km..
80k truck and no house.
And that says a lot
There is a paradigm shift one needs to wrap one's head around on this. You, if like us, and you have the room, CAN HAVE A GAS STATION IN YOUR BACKYARD! Six months after we got ours, we installed an offgrid 3.6kw solar array with 10kW of batteries, with a 48v 6kW hybrid inverter/charger, which we use to charge the Lightning through the Charge Station Pro. That, after rebates, will have cost around $4k. We also installed a 12k Btu Mini-split in the garage two weekends ago, that also runs off the 3.6kW of Solar. What we didn't expect was, when we run the mini-split, which is pretty much all the time, and open the door to the garage to the house, it cuts our House electric use by around 20kW per day in May so far...helping out the house AC. Long story short, I get 400 sq/ft of man cave that is cooled, AND, the mini-split is likely going to cut our electric bill by $500/yr. All told, this system will likely pay for itself in 3-4 years, and then we'll be getting essentially free fuel, and be paying $13 electric bills for the next 20 years, until the panels and batteries may be down to 80% efficiency. Obviously, you need the room in your backyard to install 10 x 360 watt panels, and the $5500 upfront cost on the solar array/batteries. Per the Towing, you'd have to define "you can't tow" We have an autocross course we run 65miles away, and the lightning can tow a 3000lb car on a 2500lb trailer round trip without an additional charge, so works for my towing use case. We've had the Lighting for a year and half, put 10k miles on it, and haven't ever used a fast charger where we have to pay.
Nice!
Lot's of room in the front trunk for a gas generator lmao
And you’re gonna need it!
That's what Ram is thinking with their Ramcharger model...
I'm a mobile auto detailer. The "frunk" holds my chemicals, powerwasher, shampooer, etc. And it has Power Pro Onboard which means I can use the outlets in the "frunk"to power everything. I was able to ditch my noisy gas generator.
@@Deke1 Sounds stupid. A battery truck with a dedicated 6 cylinder to charge the battery? Constantly charging the smaller battery will shorten the battery's life because there is a limited number of charge cycles in the life of a battery. Whats the benefit in that? And you still have to maintian the engine, which can breakdown. All to increase range? I'll stick with the simplicity of electric and deal with stopping to charge 4 or 5 times a year on a trip. With the Ramcharger, you are still going to use gas, resulting in gas station fillups multiple times per year, which takes time, probably many hours per year.
The vast majority of full size trucks hardly ever get used for towing. People who tow buy 3/4 ton or higher. If you're daily commute is less than 50 miles, you could level 1 charge the majority of the time, then DC fast charge as needed. You plug it in everyday, you don't run the battery down low then fill up like you would in a gas truck. Yes, these are not for everyone but don't buy something you don't understand.
If you can only charge overnight then I think it's closer to 30 miles a day, but otherwise I agree with your sentiment. We lived with 2 EVs charging off of one Level 1 connection for years (since we work at home). (2 because we got a short-range one first to test the water then decided to go all EV, and it worked out great.)
I love my ‘23 Lariat Extended Range. Mine came with a fantastic home charger that can charge mine from 5%-90% in 6hrs or less, and costs me about 7-8$ in electricity. Very cheap to operate if you don’t use public chargers $$$. It’s fun to drive and 0-60 in 4 seconds flat is great! It’s definitely not for everyone but for me it’s great! Had it for 3 months and never had to use a public charger! It tows my small boat like it’s not even there. Definitely not the vehicle to make road trips with tho. It can be done, but plan at least extra hour to charge for every 5 hours of driving vs ICE vehicles in best case DCFast Charging scenarios.
Hardest part about driving this truck is everyone thinks you’re a lib.
Not everyone, most people don't notice. Oh, wait, you've got the lightbar across the front, that might lead to a different experience for you.
It's amazing what you can do with a little brain power
Today for the first time I've riden in a EV the F150 lightning on a test track I was highly impressed. The acceleration 0 to 60 in 4 sec is sick especially for a pick up. The handling while aggressive driving equally impressive. Its been a true opener and my skepticism almost all gone for the exception of the battery life and charging networks. Other than that performance was great and so was comfort it literally felt I could live in there thats how comfortable and spacious it was
If you own a home and can install a charging plug (220V) to handle level 2 charger, then go ahead. If not, its not suited for you.
"short and curly's" I have not heard that in many years. love it!
I think a electric F150 makes a lot of sense for most people. Its not great at towing long distances, but most people who drive F150s don't tow much. The range isn't exceptional, but most people don't drive that much in a day.
I test drove one….very nice and quiet and smooth ride. If they were around $40k I’d get one.
I was able to get mine for 40k but it was a hard one to find
when buying a truck, its the get the right tool for the job philosophy. For most use cases, EV F150 would be good.. but if you do a many long travels a month or tow , then it wouldnt be good
"and tow" - if towing less than 100-150 miles it's actually great at towing
I don't blame this guy for not liking electric cars and trucks. It basically puts mechanics out of business. With way fewer moving parts and friction, there isn't much to maintain. Just rotate the tires and top off fluids and you're good to go!

Pretty stinky too. But it allows salting to be done early and not wash away. Very bad for car metal and easy of cleaning.

Recalls don’t mean you have an unreliable vehicle ffs. Ignoring issues is worse than issuing recalls. Even precious Toyota has many recalls on their vehicles.

As a Ford mechanic. It has a great deal to do with the overall afterthought engineering that went into the vehicle, most of the Myriad of recalls are software related because Ford did not do enough testing on the vehicle before it was rushed to Market, they come off the carrier with 10 modules already ready for updates, and then there are safety recalls that are not dictated by Ford but by Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, which are just because of poor design. The Lightning's latest foible is the tail light which probably cost 1500 in parts and labor

So I see this truck is registered in Pennsylvania with two inspection stickers. One is for the inspection and the other, being an electric vehicle, is an "emissions exempt" sticker, for which the driver had to pay $19 to get. Only in Pennsylvania, do we have to pay for emission exempt stickers on electric vehicles, or any vehicle driven less than 5K annually... what a state.
Or you can just buy an ICE vehicle :) and live in a county that doesn't require emissions haha :D They get you one way or another tho.

The thing with electric vehicles is that most people only drive short trips. To and from work, to and from the grocery store, etc. For people who spend the vast majority of their time only driving 30 miles or less per day, and electric vehicle is a great option. Have a gas vehicle or a hybrid if you wanna make long trips, or to tow. I'm sure that if someone who owns this truck was towing short distances, it'd be fine. Certainly not for trips while towing. An electric F-150 only makes sense if you like trucks and if you plan on doing any towing, it's only for very short distances. Otherwise, an electric car or a hybrid would be a better option. Thanks for this great (and fun) review!
Yes, exactly. The majority of people I talk to don't understand what a hybrid vehicle is. Weird

I was in Reno this summer and saw a Tesla sitting at the gas pump. Wish I could post a pic here. I assume it was because that's where there was shade but c'mon, man...
But when he's home, he pulls into a garage and plugs it in. You, on the other hand, have to stop at a gas station probably 20 to 30 times a year. What does that total? 5 to 8 hours a year just standing in a gas station? Sometimes, in the cold?
A ford dealer in Orlando FL didn’t tighten my mom’s lugs on her escape either, thankfully she noticed it before making it off the lot! Ridiculous
Not my thing but it has its place. You have to have an at home fast charger and most people with nice trucks doesn’t use them as trucks. And they make a hybrid f150 too.
My brother has a 2017 Ford F-150 four door, 4X4 with 33” tires on it. It has a 800 mile range with a 5.0 and about 22mpg on the highway. Sweet truck. About 13 mpg in town. Massive gas tanks too.

ICE trucks lose range while towing too. May not be 1/3, but close.
More like someone sold you gas and over half off and then someone else stole a third of it
Okay. So your cost per mile goes from 60 cebts per 15 miles to 90 cents. Still miniscule compared to the cost of driving a gas truck 15 miles, which, depending on the area of the country, is between $3.00 and $7.00.
Bonus, you're not shiting up the air for everyone else
Why would you lease or buy if you cant install a level 2 charger at home ?That is where the savings is and in general its fairly substantial. Now leasing for a year is a good idea to see if it works for you. Now 5 years from now these vehichles will be allot better along with charging . Now even today what they can do with a battery is impressive.
I'd never touch a electric truck. Total Junk.
It's just not ready for the hard work truckers demand out of their vehicles. Ev suck.
@@oreally8605I agree.
They just aren't ready for prime time. A hybrid might be a different story especially if the engine is only a power plant like in a diesel electric train.
Hi! Can you please check out the Rivian too?
I would love to see you get one of those first year mavericks now. I’m hearing rumblings about shifting/transmission issues on them
It'd only cost $50 to charge if he ran the battery to 0% and waited to 100 which is rare. DC charging is expensive but example traveling 1k miles in the lightning is about $30 cheaper than gas at $2.90 a gal the whole way
I remember you (Scotty) not being able to connect to the Mustang Mach E with any OBDII scan tool yet this newer F150 Lighting connects just fine 🤔🤔. Did Ford get sued and forced to make their electric vehicles compatible with those scan tools?
If you live in a city and do a lot of stop and go I don't see a problem. Charge it at the house is a must. Few things to consider though: you won't be traveling far, especially in the winter so be advised. The battery has a limited life span and will need to be rebuilt or replaced. The harder you drive it and the more the abs, stereo, heat, ac ect are used the less range you have- everything runs off of electricity so when it's cold outside and raining the car has to use more juice, which is less range.
When you looked at the data, that reminds me when the Ford ceo said they could have 150 modules by 150 different suppliers written with 150 languages that don’t always talk to each other, and even Ford doesn’t understand it all.
Love my Tesla. I have a 240 charger in the garage
I considered getting a Maverick, but with all the construction and some areas "not done yet" but full of dirt and gravel.
I chose to get a Ranger, great truck when the road hasn't been plowed yet.
You should have asked the guy about the wear on the tires. I have a Nissan leaf that I’m leasing and the Japanese Bridgestones are pretty much trash at 13,000 miles. That truck is very heavy. I’d like to learn about tire wear.
I have a lightning pro with the same michellins in the video. I’m at 30k miles now, they’ll make 40k no problem but I think 50 might be pushing it
I love my lightning!… but they definitely aren’t for everybody. Mine charges 20-90% overnight with a 50A level 2 charger for $6 in electricity(extended range battery). It will tow a 7000 lb trailer 100 miles.
Scotty... you can drive it hard like that all day for hundreds of miles. If you charge at home, which every electric owner should do, its full everyday with more range than anybody typically drives in a day and costs a fraction of gas. This truck came with two different 240v chargers, there's no reason this guy should be charging off 120v... Mine half pays for itself with gas savings, I drive over 100 miles daily. Its practically free for the first year of ownership when you factor in the $7500 tax credit+gas savings. The required maintenance is almost non existent on this truck, only tire rotations, cabin air filters, wiper blades and wiper fluid, which can all be done diy. If you look at the maintenance schedule its only visual inspections, tire rotations, and cabin filters until the 1st oil change is due at 150K miles then a coolant change at 200K miles and that's literally all that's in the maintenance schedule.
Oil change at 150K? What oil? Coolant can understand. Transmission oil maybe.
@@frederickbooth7970 in the service schedule Ford calls it the electric drive assembly fluid and filter. There's one in the front and one in the rear with screw on type oil filters. It's the oil for the electric motor and single speed reduction gearbox so it's probably a transmission or gear oil.
You can thank others here for your $7500 tax credit. You're welcome. Now where's mine?

When the battery housing starts corroding the batteries will catch on fire when they get wet. It’s impossible to put out a battery fire because they spark right back up. Happens all the time to electric cars.

Everyone always hits on the towing when this truck comes up. Ok yes, EV trucks are horrible at towing because of the range loss, sure we get that. First off all, 90% of the people that own an F-150 might tow with it one or two times in the entire time they own it and it won't be very far. If you are one of those people that tows often with your truck, I would recommend a diesel truck. You CAN tow with this truck as it's more than capable, just not very far due to the rather low battery capacity. But if you're like the rest of us, this truck isn't really that bad provided you have somewhere to charge it. Don't buy this thing if you plan on plugging it into a 110 outlet because it wasn't meant for that and this goes for ALL EVs. If you don't have a home or a 220V outlet to plug into, you will have to rely on the charging stations which isn't a good idea. I'm sick of hearing all the same talking points about why EVs in general are bad when 90% of you have never driven one let alone educated yourselves on the actual capabilities of EVs. Don't form an opinion on something you've only heard about from other people, usually on the internet, that makes you an ignorant douche.
Well put.
Every real ev's driver know a level 1 charger will take days to charge
Except the reports of the Hummer EV LOSING range while plugged in to Level 1.
Apparently it was using power to keep the batteries warm LOL
@@Argedis LOL!
It all comes down to average miles driven per day. If you drive less than 20 miles per day a level 1 charger can actually work for you, it'll take a few days, but it will trend towards full. You can then drive a bunch like for a weekend trip or something, and then start over. If you ever need to go somewhere quick you can always stop by a fast charger on the way. Obviously not for everyone, but for those who work at home or are retired it can be workable.
Charge a little here charge a little there, anyone that can charge at work has a huge advantage
Scotty, on Jan. 4, 2024, Ford announced that the base price for the F150 Lightning was raise to $54,495. from $49,995. For me (who doesn't give a hoot about this vehicle), I find this announcement stunning and surprising. This ought to drive sales to a much lower level.
My low mileage, 1995 4WD Suburban suits me just fine. I can get 400 miles on a tank of gas, and a fill-up only takes 5-6 minutes. When I get the urge, I have the freedom to get off the beaten path and not have to worry about where the next charging station may be. My time is valuable...don't want to take twice as long to get somewhere. I also don't have to worry about my house burning down overnight either.
5 to 6 minutes to fill a 25+ gallon tank? I doubt that.
… just do NOT expect to do a road trip with a Ford Lightning + a trailer … that would be a really horrible trip. The Tesla super charger at Monteagle, TN is the only charge station I noticed that has any pull-thru stalls. More typical charging stalls are meant to accommodate a single solitary, backed-in vehicle. Having to unhook a trailer on a road trip (and park it somewhere) in order to charge the Ford E-truck is a definite super negative!

I am not a fan of these full electric vehicles. However, we did own a Ford C-Max from 2016-2021. It was a hybrid and was very reliable. We traded it with 80k on it and only replaced the tires and small 12 volt battery.

Literally any car made in the last few years does this.
Instead of F150, Ford should have started their electrical vehicle development based on the Expedition Max, which is less towing oriented than a pick-up truck, plus the Expedition Max has more interior space as a family/passenger vehicle.

This is nothing new. While I enjoy his videos he hasn’t actually lived and used the lightning. Can’t take some of his thoughts seriously when they actually don’t use the thing. I’ve road tripped, done my day to day drives, etc and I love it. Only downfalls compared to gas is longer road trips (this doesn’t bother me), yes cold weather really hurts range (do you not know how batteries work?) I don’t tow, but if you tow locally this is still a better option.
When the battery is run down, it weighs the same 2000 pounds, but as gas goes lower, truck gets LIGHTER.
E = mc^2. It's actually a few micrograms lighter when the battery is empty.
Good point. A gallon of gas is about 6 lbs. 20ga would be 120lbs
Yet, and EV is more efficient per mile for every single mile it drives, and it isn't even close. The equivalent MPG on the Lightning is 68 MPG. Show me a gas truck with 462 to 580 HP like the Lightning that can even get 20 Mpg.
And as the gas goes lower the already uneven weight distribution gets even worse. 😆
Reardless, you still pay $3.00 to $7.00 per gallon for gas depending on where you live. You will save $2500 to $5000 per year on energy costs with a Lightning vs. a gas truck.
