Nestled in the foothills of the Guadarrama mountains, la Pedriza is just one hour from Madrid. It looks like Joshua Tree on steroids. With roughly 2,000 trad and sport routes as well as another 2,000 boulder problems, the Best Crags crew struggled to fit it all into one episode.
Luckily they had the Pedriza crew to show them around, in particular Talo Martin who, though he describes himself as 'just a fat boy on a slab,' is responsible for developing much of the area. He not only wrote the bouldering guidebook and showed them what an 8b slab looks like, he showed them how to climb an 8b slab as well. For the moment the crag is still pretty quiet but we have a feeling that won't be the case if the rest of the world finds out what Spanish climbers have known for years - this place is world class.

I believe Talo is talking about the solid plastic "horseshoe" in between the shoe and the rubber. For slabs around this area most people choose a very rigid sole to help in the most technical bits of climbing. Most people you in La Pedri see use La Sportiva Miuras or Mythos. But then again Talo is a slab shaman, so maybe there is some more magic to his shoes.
