Ooo, NT Wright... I haven't even listened yet but am giving a thumbs up like straight away 😆 Shane Willard got me onto listening to NT. Have not read NT's books yet but they are on the list to get to.
@@thereconstructionistpodcast For sure. Your thought process and questions are fantastic and really make for awesome conversations, in all your vids. Thanks for doing what you do!
Be careful about reading his books. I started this spring and I have read two twice, started a third and I have another (fourth) on order. The books expand my knowledge and retrain my thinking! Buckle up.
I would LOVE to see N.T. Wright and Bart Ehrman have a two hour discussion on the kingdom of God because it seems to be what originally tripped up Ehrman and started moving him away from trusting Jesus.

I enjoy listening to Tom and enjoyed your podcast. Is there a difference between this viewpoint and Christian Nationalism espoused by Joel Webbon, Stephen Wolfe and Doug Wilson ?
The big difference is that they see the Church as needing to become the empire, and Tom's viewpoint is that the Church needs to be a prophetic voice to the empires. Our Kingdom isn't the one we live in, and never will be until Jesus returns to judge the empires of the world and establish his new creation. Until then, we are called to be the prophetic voice, giving applause when it's needed, and giving critique when it's needed.
Thank you for balancing out the volumes of your two mics! Tom Wright is soft spoken, many Podcasters stab me in the ears when trying to listen to an interview with him
Even the best of governments need to have Christians lovingly coming along side them to hold them to account. Every King, even David, had a prophet who applauded them when they needed it, and called them out when they needed it.
With reference to the Spurgeon quotes noted below, I posed this question at the Spurgeon Library Conference this Spring. The response illustrates the difficulty we have in speaking to such current 'political' issues (as opposed to past issues) . I'd like feedback on how others see this response. ua-cam.com/video/yn5klg_IC1E/v-deo.html
It seems to me that John the Baptist, (whom Jesus called the greatest man born among women and likened him to Elijah), set a great example of what a prophetic ministry looks like in politics. Herod was an evil man who did great harm to his enemies and to his nation. John the Baptist did not tell Herod off. He simply told him that having his brother's wife was sin, that it was wrong.
Martin Luther's quote is a great explanation of the popularity of Donald J. Trump. It's not because he's a godly man in his private life or because he's polished. It's because he has the wisdom to see what needs to be done in situations where evil leaders don't care --- or worse, are doing the wrong thing for their own selfish purposes.
Are you confusing Herod the Great (the evil man who did much harm) with Herod Antipas, one of the sons of Herod the great, who married his brother's wife?
In stepping aside Biden has released the power of the Cross into the situation. I am looking with great anticipation to see how this outworks. There is a small group of us praying for you all. You will jot persuade the MAGA folk of their error. They are trapped in a strong delusion. ( See 2 Thess 2. ) We are praying for them that the Lord will have mercy on them and that He will grant them to know the truth that sets them free. I am Australian. It is not my place to intervene politically but the US has so much impact on the world that we are all affected by what the voters of the US choose. 😮
Your political wagon should be hitched to Jesus not Trump. Vote for someone who best supports a Christian worldview however there is no need to support a man of political office and proclaim God chose him. It's unnecessary for Christians to associate with powers of mans political systems as you cannot defend them when they differ from God's law's.
My pop Wright thank you for attending unto our OWN! Love you too! Yes, Who said "IF YE LOVE ME"? Yes, unto all shared ears to HEAR let them hear!

I wish we could have more of such discussions!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic interview! You do an amazing job.
Thank you!

It could be really interesting!
I pray for Ehrman's true salvation and him being filled with the Holy spirit. He is a great speaker but has became a 2 Peter 2 false teacher.

You're welcome!
I feel for you working on two or three projects at a time. The things God calls us scholars to!

That 'powers and principalities' line was added later on.
Plenty of truth to speak to power in Emperor Trudeau's Canada!

And they said unto him, "Do you do children's parties ?"
And the Lord said, "No".
But they did press him and said, "Give us another one !".

What do you do when MAGA Trump is wrongly promoted as God’s anointed ….. how do you have a discussion in Christian charity!

I don’t think it’s correct to say Bonhoeffer participated in the assassination attempt.
