Love your podcast guys. For once I feel like I have something to chime in on: Chris, it's not really about stretching, but about improving your functional range. Strengthen your body IN the deep positions that require you to be more flexible. Similar to how yoga might put you in these positions, but you can add more movement, and more load. This will help your body adapt to the new demands. Also, day of, warm up first, that's much more important and will enhance any stretching or flexibility exercises you do. Keep up the great work. And for the record, my Scorpeus 3 hasn't had issues yet after about 20 hours of playing...
My Hyperion 14mm lasted less than 3 play sessions and has a rattle so pushed on the face and it's starting to crunch. Tried to submit a warranty claim and system was down 😞
You guys are an incredible resource for the pickleball community, keep up the great work! 2 sessions, about 6 hours on a Joola Magnus 14mm, core crush…..the Gearbox power pro elongated lasted a week, what power paddle will last, Proton no stock for months, you mention Paddletek? Any spin numbers on the Paddletek TKO’s?
"Important. Huge Gen 3 USAP Update This morning, all manufacturers received an email inviting us to a meeting for the introduction of an exit velocity test ( coefficient of restitution ) … the meeting is May 20th." Just heard this, do you have any more info??

I think its an important distinction...is it "breaking in" or slowly deteriorating each use until the paddle is no longer useful? To me a break in is the paddle changes over a couple of weeks and settles in and plays consistently for a long while.
Interesting for me to hear all of these recent reviews on Joola. I’ve had all the way from Gen 1-3 and I’ve never experienced any of these issues. Maybe I’m one of the lucky one but I don’t feel that issues are as common as the internet makes them appear.

It's like the 70's all over again, when you bought a new car the dealership would tell you to bring it back in a month or two and they'll fix everything that's broken for free. You knew you were buying a broken car.
Chris, stretching tenses and stresses muscles. Massage gun loosens muscles which is really what you need. Stretching after the gun is ok but the gun is what you need

Even at $100 it shouldn’t be crushing!!! I think we all have a warped sense of a dollar! I mean this shows even more we are becoming immune to us being in a Throwaway Society
I live in Ecuador, but bought a JOOLA - Tyson McGuffin Magnus (yet to be picked up in US). If you think you have issues with returning paddles..... just try it when living in South America! I really hate to hear that US companies have such quality control issues, and have not done proper testing. Anyway, I'm a new retiree who has picked up pickleball as another expensive hobby, but we really have fun in Cuenca, Ecuador! Come visit us some time! We play in Parque Candelas and Parque Pateleria, which are nothing like the fancy places you get to play, but we have a blast!
No. Not at all. Pressing with just your thumbs isn’t going to have nearly the impact that hitting a hard ball that’s going 40+ mph is going to have. If it can’t withstand pressing with your thumbs (even pressing hard) it can’t withstand gameplay. These paddles are all just garbage.
No, because I’ve pounded on Gen 1 paddles trying to break them, cut them open and tried to crush them with my hand and nothing happens. Most people are not applying enough force with their hand to do any damage to the core.
Played against a good player (4.0+) today who had a Joola Gen3 Perseus. I’m happy to support a ban on those things. I’ve never seen a pickleball move like that (spin and power).
Random question but is it mentioned anywhere which episode # this is? Was just thinking about the 10 year and "How many episodes?" question and didnt realize what episode this was. I see under the Explore the podcast section in the description it has 82 episodes total but doesnt help with respect to a random episode and trying to figure out which one in the series it is. Didnt hear it in the intro either.
I enjoyed the podcast. I liked the information on the problems with the new paddles. I would have a problem, if I needed to send back a broken paddle to the manufacturer for warranty. I would not have the paddle to use until I have the replacement. I always do dynamic and static stretching before playing pickleball. Thank you, Chris and Will.
I'm not happy to hear that purchasers have bad paddles, but I would love if this paddle was somehow removed from circulation. Every single user says it makes power and spin way easier that makes the games feel unfair
It's different than what you normally do, but you should do a collab with one of the pickleball Pt's/ fitness instructors. The Dynamic warm up and static cool down are very important. Would love to see some content from you on this. It would be like the backhand lesson episode
The Gearbox is a weird one, because it isn't built with polymer honeycomb. Gearbox claims that it is fine with their paddles since it's just hardened foam. It's not clear to me at this time how good or bad that crunching is for that specific paddles. For polymer paddles it's known as a bad thing.
Thanks for the great episode. Chris, I think I also need a cross court forehand dink lesson because that shot feels very awkward to me. Regarding the Paddletek TKO, ALW Bantam, and Engage Pro1...if these paddles really powerful, but are not thermoformed or have foam edges then what are they doing different that other companies have missed? Is there more innovation that could continue to improve cold pressed paddles (more traditionally made paddles)?
For the PaddleTek, it's probably because of the fiberglass they are using. I'm not positive if Engage does the same, I don't think they've ever publicly stated that they have any fiberglass mixed with the carbon fiber.
@@PickleballStudio That makes sense. My first paddle in 2021 (and I don't buy many) was a Tempest Wave Pro and it had a fiber glass face. The ball seems to have a little more pop and I consider it a very soft paddle
Hoping you guys have the review of the new CRBN paddle on release day or slightly before! Been waiting foreverrrrr for them to release it. I've heard July is the target date. @Pickleballstudio
My old gearbox cx14 still sits in my bag 1.5 years later after hammering it for a year and still works just like it was when new… I’ve moved on to other paddles, but she is still there, old reliable. Don’t think I could break it if I tried.
Basic randomized control trial based stretching, dynamic stretching >45 min before. If you have ROM issues (most of use 40+) start and hour early with ROM (studied and show to inhibit performance but improve ROM). So 40+ pickleball players, ROM static >30-40min. Dynamic stretch up to play. Or just do the “pickleball clock” before 10 times.
So what’s wrong with the “broken” gen 3s that have a crunching sound, what are the effects on performance/durability? What is a core crushing issue? Can anyone explain
Someone at rec play yesterday was using the Engage Pro 1, and I guess he hit the ball in a certain spot that launched the ball. It reminded me of the Joola video. The ball went so fast we didn't see where it landed. Even he said, "What just happened?"
My gearbox crunched like crazy. And it was completely uncontrollable and hit rockets. Much like you described Issac’s. Just with a little less crunch and I warrantied it. But I am ditching these gen 3 for this reason. Thrive azul is enough power without all this breaking
The ONI by Vatic (Sorry Daryl), I think the foam still expands over time (months) and corrupts the polymer core. The amount of foam between the polymer core (that is the honeycomb) doesn’t matter as long as it is static as sale. But a few people I know with the ONI suggested that the home continues the beyond retail sale
I’ve got 2 Anna Bright Joola Gen 3s. I just checked the second one. It’s been played about 5 times. There’s a slight crunch and it rattles. The first one is on loan to a friend. I’ll check it tomorrow.
I don't have much of a full routine yet. It's mostly some hamstring and hip flexor stretches. A great channel you should watch is Movement By David. Lots of UA-cam shorts with great stretches.
The main issue with j7k is that it's 123 swing speed but hurracha is also 100% kevlar face just has 3 additional layers of carbon. I got j2k pro and hurracha kevlar on the way.
55:33 How can you say that Rafael was right about thermoforming being a negative when most companies have got the core crushing largely under control? I can understand if you were to say "maybe he was on to something", or "maybe there was more truth to that than previously thought". But "he was right"? If we're looking at the present day gen 2 landscape - nah, he was wrong. My Volair Mach 1 Forza has been going strong for 10 months and whenever I play with my Gen 1 Electrum Model E I'm reminded how much I prefer Gen 2.
If these paddles are truly getting more and more powerful as time goes by, they are risking a lawsuit. Someone is going to get hurt . concussions are possible. I heard that one person got a concussion on the pro tour. I can see amateurs going crazy with this paddle, not controlling it and hitting people in the head and in the eye and in the nose and doing some serious damage. The question is who is responsible the manufacturer or the user. The user knew his paddle is getting more powerful as time goes byand continued to use iteven after it exhibited core crushing. Howie B
Does anyone know how to contact Joola. I cannot find a customer service number, and the two shops I buy paddles from do not have a phone number for the company. The numbers on the web are not in use.
Don’t let all the haters get in your head. There’s always the 1% who love to complain. Appreciate all your time on helping the other 99% make the best choice on paddles for them.
This video continues to validate why I play with a Ronbus. The only reason Joola is selling paddles is because Ben Johns. The price, quality, and QC is outrageous.
I’ve been using Joola Magnus 16mm paddle for a month now and it is a game-changer in terms of quality and performance. Its construction ensures optimal control and power, making it the best paddle I've ever used. 🙋🏻♂️
I agree - after the "surprises" of the thermoform last year, one would think that this years new tech would have been better tested by the manufacturers. But did we really think foam wouldn't degrade, especially when the foam is part of the propulsion system? It will be interesting to see what Ronbus has come up with when Ripple releases
Guys, I think it would be great if yoiu added to your paddle reviews the play of different paddles in relation to the skill level of the player. I find that some paddles are better suited for different skill levels and playing style. For full disclosure I am a Six Zero guy, and the DBD still is one of (if not the) best paddles for 3.0 - 4.5 (maybe 4.35) player. As someone expressed to me the DBD increases the efficiency of the skill level of the player. Six Zero has proven to be consistent with a pretty uniform quality during the life of the paddle. .....Thoughts?
I do have to say my OG Gen2 Legacy Pro (still not Delaney) took a week or 2 of break in. Paddles have always had a break in. Look at how they are made. Layers. Layers always loosen up. Core crush is a different issue. But most paddles break in even if it’s just one game.
On the plus side the grit on the gen 3's are lasting the lifetime of the paddle.

So does the Joola 12 month warranty cover this issue? Mines crushed after 2 weeks of play and I kind would like either my money back or a new paddle.
I saw a podcast on the J7K from Honolulu paddles with top tear power like 60 mph...
Congrats. Intro was soooo smooth.
Please update us as to their warranty process.
It's called the Gamma Librarian. It's fun to practice with indoors. Feels like a dense Nerf ball.
Can you do a review on J2K vs. Apollo (wide body) . I think these might be 2 best Kevlar paddles for the price. ( under $150)
Chris: can you share or recommend a stretching routine? very informative video.
I don't have much of a full routine yet. It's mostly some hamstring and hip flexor stretches. A great channel you should watch is Movement By David. Lots of UA-cam shorts with great stretches.
J7k all Kevlar is elongated as the Hurache control + but the J7k is the longest and the Hurache is carbon Kevlar
The main issue with j7k is that it's 123 swing speed but hurracha is also 100% kevlar face just has 3 additional layers of carbon. I got j2k pro and hurracha kevlar on the way.
In my opinion any paddle that uses Kevlar or Nomex cores or carbon tubes as core instead of polypropylene is worth considering.
Howie B
It's 100% on the user. There wouldn't be a successful lawsuit there.
Does anyone know how to contact Joola. I cannot find a customer service number, and the two shops I buy paddles from do not have a phone number for the company. The numbers on the web are not in use.
they took the money and ran
Hurache or TKO? Which one you liking more?
Was pretty close to getting a Collin Johns Gen 3 on release day. Guess we'll need to wait for the new round of better quality paddles this generation.
Durability aside, that Collin Gen 3 is amazing. Best I've ever played with.
And your a Joola rep aren't you?
😂🤣😆
Makes me afraid to push on my Joola Gen 3. I will be on a crunch denial mission.
How do you sleep? Got to do that everyday. Feed the dog, kiss your wife, press on your gen 3 to see if it broke yet.
Just got the Perseus3 16, and will check it after playing today. Also, can you review the Bread & Butter Shogun?
Love My Perseus Gen 3. Dont have to use much power easy on the hands and arms
Chris, how was the spin on the Bantam?
So, the foam ball might be the key to playing grass-court pickleball.
I thought TKO stood for "tweener king ____", which is Christian Alshon's tag for all of his socials
BANTAM is a weight class in boxing 🥊🥊🥊🥊 => TKO
