My only frustration with this series is that they don't always translate Hearts sign for us, which I get mimics how Li Ming feels but I just want to know all the bits of their conversations and interactions we miss there 🤭 still this couple has my whole heart for their representation and sweet innocent and wholesome story of young love ❤
The director said it was intentional, maybe we would want to learn sign language

Heart’s parents didn’t know the sign language till the end of the series. But after the conflict between Heart and his mother, she gets to know that she should have learn sign language as she couldn’t even apologize to him. I think that’s why they didn’t translate his signs in order to make us aware how he feels.
I have to say this, their relationship is so freaking pure. It got me feel so light heart. Gemini is extremely adorable in this series too.

I seriously watched this series just for Heart and Li Ming !!!!
Their story was very sweet and wholesome, but they were also fearless, brave and challenged boundaries around them. I love how Li Ming encouraged and supported Heart’s wish to go the US for University, and decided to go with him. Their characters showed real transformational growth. The series didn’t name the school, but my guess is that it’s Gallaudet in Washington, DC which a famous uni for deaf people.
I actually saw that in the upper left corner it said RIT. Which would be Rochester Institute of Technology. That area has a very large community of deaf people alongside that school

I hold Heart and Li Ming story very close to my heart, it's so sweet, innocent and beautiful. Is my comfort series and I wish all were able to live a love like theirs

Ahhhh yes! I was literally just rewatching this series because I missed Li Ming and Heart, how much Li Ming treats Heart not only with a comforting sense of normalcy, but also the supportive gestures of learning sign language and taking him out to both notmal teenage activities and deaf mass and all of it just make my heart (pun intended) so happpy 🥹🥹🥰. For Wen and Jim, I thought they would be problematic characters when I first read the synopsis, because I really hate cheating stories but it wasn't like that.
The only thing I wanted was more of Kaipa/ Alan. I hope they make second season with them as main couple, because there was so much potential in both characters. Khaotung and First already have that amazing chemistry, but with those great emotional characters, I can only dream what legend of a series this would be.

_Moonlight Chicken_ is on my watchlist as it was praised by many. however, watching this compilation at least three points of the writing didin't sit well:
#1 Heart looks about the same age as Li Ming (or a bit older) and went deaf because of an illness about 3yrs ago. this means he could hear at least until he turned 15. so why would he struggle to read any text and saying the words out loud? he knows them all from his first 15yrs. only people born deaf have almost no way of knowing how to speak the words they read. it is very difficult for them
#2 13:44 what kind of logic is this? if one is poor, one shouldn't be gay? does he think it is a choice? or should he never act on it because he is poor? isn't Earth's character gay himself?
#3 16:06 lets say Heart is admitted to that US uni and his parents are willing to pay the fees, pay for his accommodation, flights, visa etc - how is poor Li Ming going to get there? who pays for him? one thing is certain, if he gets a visa he is not allowed to work, only to study. it all feels rather like a pipe dream unless perhaps he is admitted as some kind of caregiver to Heart

In revisiting this video, I came across your questions, and I'm sure others have had similar ones. I'll admit, I started to try and write a response to address them, but Question 1 alone came out to around 350 words - far more than most people would be willing to read in a UA-cam comment.
I can just say that, in short summary, Questions 1 and 2 can be answered by exposure to people in the respective communities (the deaf community and the LGBTQ community). Every individual person of those communities has their own unique experiences, and I've had the honor of hearing some of those stories that do reflect the sentiments embodied by Heart and Jim (Earth's character). So, as fictional of a story as Moonlight Chicken is, there are emotions grounded in real experiences.
Question 3 is... well, it's a fictional story that wanted a happy ending, so that's where we are. That being said, a student visa to the USA does not prevent you from working, it just limits what types of jobs you're allowed to have. Also, scholarships and grants are an option, so if Li Ming actually wanted to dedicate the time and effort to apply for every single one he qualifies for, who are we to stop him from chasing the "American dream"? Who knows, maybe Heart can help him too, and we can just have fun imagining them struggle through college like the rest of us.
