Hello, Mindy, thank you for the lecture, I did click on the "thumbs up" but when I did the number moved down from 57 to 56, and so the system does not seem to be properly registering the positive judgments. Thanks, WB

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, YT can be a bit funky sometimes. I've even seen the number of views go down, and I'm pretty sure it's impossible to unsee a video! Anyway, glad you liked the video.

@@allaboutplatonism Hello, Mindy, thanks for the comment. This question, why does the mind judge certain things to be beautiful, is very compelling. I think Plotinus is on the right track to suggest that what we deem to be beautiful becomes a kind of portal revealing the beauty of “the One.” Plotinus speaks of a gasping, a momentary sense of jarring, to encounter beauty; as if to indicate, we’ve inadvertently stepped over a threshold into an enchanted new world of sublimity and ecstasy. Despite the pain and suffering of planet Earth, is this the true nature of what’s real? One’s internal guidance system seems to be calibrated to respond to what we call “beauty,” all of which is triggered by “hidden blueprints,” yes, certain archetypal forms, of an underlying supernal reality; here, we’re reminded of Rupert Sheldrake’s “morphic fields” which shape and mould energy to align with a conceptual undergirding. Plotinus’ insight offers beginning explanation to many important areas; one thing, in the true love and marriage, virtuous romantic mates, each for the other, will provide a glimpse of the beauty of the “hidden face of God.” When this happens, as the Beatles sang, there will be no “nasty habit of love disappearing overnight.” It appears that we might be forever enthralled with, and transformed by, the beauty of “the One.” Wayne
