    Just a personal note: This will be the most listened-to episode of Daily Shots since the program began five years ago. I get that there are reasons for that beyond the show itself, but I'd be remiss if I didn't express very real gratitude here. -

    I'm tired of fans comparing this team to the 2005 Steelers team that sneaked in as the 6th seed and won 3 straight road games on the way to the Super Bowl. The main difference is that team had a real coaching staff with Bill Cowher as HC, Ken Whisenhunt as OC, Russ Grimm as OL Coach and Dick Lebeau as DC. Coaching matters and this 2024 Steelers team is coached by a group of clowns. This team is a direct result of having a Head Coach that will NEVER be held accountable for his mediocrity.

      There are actually people making that claim? That’s crazy. This team is even worse than the past prime Big Ben team who went 11-0, and then proceeded to go 1-5, giving up 48 to the Browns in the playoffs

I don’t believe Art is this blind and stupid. I believe Art just doesn’t care! And why should he? The sucker fans will just keep lining his pockets with money and they will just keep the BS slogans of Steel Curtain which died many years ago and Tomlin’s BS the Standard is the Standard ( he forgets to mention the Standard is Mediocrity)! This reminds me of the 1983 season where we started 9-2 and then proceeded to lose 4 out of our next 5 games and then got destroyed by the Raiders on the road in the playoffs. Jack Lambert, who had been hurt and missed most of the first half, tried to gut it out in the 2nd half to no avail. The next year, we would make it to the AFC championship game against the great Dan Marino. We didn't have as good of a record in 1984 as 83, but we won 3 out of the last four games to end the regular season. You have to be playing well at the end of the season.

  • @Square1production
    @Square1production День тому +4

    The problem with Tomlin is that he genuinely does believe all of his players are physically and mentally capable of executing the plan so well that with a solid fundamental plan, nothing can stop them. He's spent his entire career with the Steelers until the last few years with that being the case. He's had Ben Roethlisberger for almost all of that. He had Troy Polamalu for a lot of it. He had Brown and Bell. He's never had a line up where it's been anything but a detriment to try to shake up the formula and try to catch the opponent off guard. He has no learned intuition for a style of game that doesn't rely on your players simply outexecuting the other side on skill, talent and ability alone.
    To him, doing anything other than what he's been doing is "getting clever" and opening up risks when execution alone should be sufficient to win. And for the most part that does work, on average, about half the time.
    But once the opponent knows what to expect. It stops working, which is why the Steelers have been so prone to second half of the season collapses and first round playoff exits. A lot of the reason any given play works in football is that the other team has to be prepared for all the things you could possibly be planning to do as well as whichever thing you actually choose to do, and they can't be equally prepared for all of them on every play. Mike Tomlin and the kind of people he chooses to work under him, take that out of the equation for themselves, to a large degree.
    Not all your players can be the very best in the world. And even if you do have the best players like TJ Watt and Cam Heyward, they can't always win just because they should on paper. You have to give them an edge. All of the teams that succeed, even the Patriots with Brady and Chiefs with Mahomes, have always been willing to keep their opponents guessing. Especially with the state of the game today, you can't win unless you do, because you can't account for the natural and induced fluctuations in the abilities of your players from game to game, and even down to down. You just have to count on the right players all playing so well they're going to be difference makers, all at the same time. And you can't count on that for a whole season, and you can't expect it in the playoffs. Sometimes you need to make the other side make mistakes instead of just getting outplayed, and there's no way around that.
    I don't think you could win much above .500 playing like this even if you had the best player at every position all on the same team.

    I'm pretty much done with this team until Tomlin is gone. He should have been five years ago, but his defenders and apologists somehow keep touting his hall-of-fame qualities while overlooking his hall-of-shame realities. There's no reason to watch the draft anymore. It doesn't matter. There's no reason to speculate on trades. It doesn't matter. There's no reason to ponder free agents. It doesn't matter. Tomlin can call his team a bunch of Junior Varsity players, but it doesn't matter when they're being coached by the same, or worse. It doesn't matter if they get a new offensive coordinator. It doesn't matter worrying about who will be the QB next season if you're going to run the ball on first and second downs 80% of the time. It doesn't matter if the defense is led by T. J. Watt if it's just going to run the same stuff over and over. None of it matters if you're going to keep extending Tomlin. And I'm beginning to doubt any of these matter if your name is Art Rooney, II. And as a lifelong Steeler fan who has watched teams have losing seasons before, none of this matters anymore to me until Tomlin is gone. Period.

Running on first and second down, and then trying to pass on third, when the defense knows what you are doing, just doesn't cut it. The opposing defense usually blitzes them on third down and Russ has no chance to make a play. The other part of that scenario is they don't anticipate this happening and call a quick hitting pass when they need 5 or 6 yards. All the routes being run are slow developing. Whatever happened to those quick slant passes they used to do with Ben. I also can't believe they don't know how to utilize a 6' 8" tight end in those situations. Just maddening!!

    Tomlin must be the greatest friend you could ever have. His loyalty and belief in those within his inner circle of players is incredible, and a fatal flaw. The NFL is a brutal workplace. You can’t have unwavering loyalty to any player. Or, even more importantly, coaches. He knows he’s never getting fired so there is nothing stopping him from mercilessly swapping out coaches for underperforming.
    That said, the Bengals are a good team and were desperate. The Steelers wanted to win this game, the Bengals HAD to win the game. Always bet on a decent team with a great QB who absolutely have to win.
    I’ve said this for years, but the Steelers are only as good as their OL plays. The left side of our OL was blown up last night. And that was the “experienced” side of our OL. And in short yardage none are capable of getting much push. Myers has been a poor OL coach but normally he gets them to gel as the season progresses. Not this year.

    I really appreciate this title. I wasn’t going to go to UA-cam today cause I didn’t want to deal with the negativity after that game, but I seen this title and lol. It’s not alllll gloom & doom

    Trice only moved off of Chase because Higgins got injured and wasn't out there so someone FINALLY decided in the 4th quarter to move JPJ over to Chase. On the flip side, defense only gave up 19 points to Burrow and company and yes I'm trying to console myself knowing this team is most definitely still going to be seeking it's first playoff win since 2016 come February.
