    We had a male duck and female turkey who, after they lost their mates, became a "couple" and did everything together. When Olivia decided to go broody on some chicken eggs in the nesting box, Mr. Duck laid in the box with her (actually on her, since she was a big ole turkey in a chicken-sized nesting box) or stood "on guard" outside the nesting box. It was so sweet. We eventually lost them both, but it is pure joy to raise animals and watch the interactions. Blessings in Christ!

    We just did that to our parking area. We put down driveway fabric first. Then 2 inch and minus. First time in 4 years it’s not a muddy mess there. Going to do a walkway to the chicken coops next. Y’all are so great to watch!

    🦅 HAVE LOVED YOUR CHANNEL SINCE I FIRST FOUND IT.. FIRST BECAUSE OF THE ANIMALS AND HOW Y'ALL INTERACT WITH THEM.. SUPER COOL.. SECOND BECAUSE OF THE COMRODERY BETWEEN EACH OF YOU.. IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPY ALL THE TIME.. I KNOW THERE ARE DOWN MOMENTS AND YOU HAVE SHARED THEM WITH US BUT, IN THE LONG RUN THEY DON'T KEEP Y'ALL DOWN BUT FOR A SPLIT SECOND THEN IT IS BACK ON WITH THE JOY OF THE LORD DOUBLE TIME.... GOD BLESS Y'ALL AT THE "STIVERS HOMESTEAD"!!! 🦅

    Talking about the electric fence which I have and I have my cornish cross in a mobile coop inside it. Last night something (possum) got in and ripped the head off one of the chicks. I guess possum because there is a dead one in the yard that my dog took care of . Good dog. Sad for the chick. I really thought it would keep possums out.

    Browsers. Dry lots are phenomenal for raising goats. That being said, grazing/browsing is huge, especially in dry weather. Rainy, damp weather and conditions really brings on parasites and issues like bottle jaw. Most animals definitely benefit from gravel ... the exception being horses and, on occasion, cattle (stones in hooves/claws). Looks fantastic!

    Goats are Browsers... Sheep are Grazers

  • @Kathyhere00
    @Kathyhere00 3 роки тому

    I think you were referring to animals being browsers or grazers. Browsers feed on leaves, barks, and stems while grazers feed on vegetation at or near the ground level. Goats are browsers and sheep are grazers.
    This does not mean that goats will not eat grasses and other forages but they seem to prefer an array and diverse diet of shrubs, forbs (flowering, herbaceous broadleaf plants) and tree leaves mixed with hay and grasses.

    Curious if you will use the electric fence periodically to “chute” them to greener far away areas so the whole area doesn’t get spent? (Like where your fence line is so green and closer to barn is already pretty brown.). Love the vibe of the zoo. 🥰

    You could always run electric wire around the perimeter of your stationary wood fence. We have that and it works great. This is the box we have. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0079GH4HU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The goats are browsers. ;o) My goats are on pasture I just keep up on their copper and minerals as well as herbal wormer and homeopathic wormers. The gravel looks great too. I used roofing shingles on the ramp to their goat house. It helps keep the hooves clean and filed.
