BONUS VIDEO - My LAST SKYDIVE Ever!!

- I spent a massive part of my life as a tandem master working for Skydive Taupo in New Zealand. This is what brought here and I spent some of my best years here and made some of my best friends whilst working here with them.
It is a sad week as I tell you that they are having to close their doors for good this week, due to Covid and the fact that the borders are closed and that the majority of their business is from overseas tourists, so they just can't ride it out.
It has been ten years (next month) since I did my last skydive, where I ripped my shoulder apart and had to call it quits and I thought it would be a great idea to do one last jump on their final week and close out that chapter of my life once and for all.
Here's how it went down....

Great times dropping you fellas out of those planes. Like you said, some of the best days
Chur bro. 👊
Awesome Alex, those were some fun days all those years ago with Cream Puff and then the first pinky! You and I defiantly had those exit shots down pat! Take care mate Apples
Hey brutha!! Yep we had some good fun with those exits aye!!! Really enjoyed doing that with you🤙
Thanks for sharing. Nice to see apart of your other universe. How time flys. Best Regards
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it 👍
I used to curse the skydivers flying over when fishing the Waitahanui. So sad to see another niche business going because of Covid,so much talent and enthusiasm but being Kiwis watch out in 6 or 12 months pretty hard to stop good men. Thanks for the video Alex we need to see this to make us stop whinging about how hard things are.Neil Ryan.
I’ll miss hearing the planes during the day. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment 🤙
Super cool video. A bit more of an insight into “you”. Not just a fishing junkie but extreme to the core. Sad, tough times for a lot of people during Covid, and a nice tribute to your past. Stay safe and keep fishing.
Glad you enjoyed it bro. Was my life for so long and so sad to see it close down..
Awesome video Alex. Those days at Skydive Taupo were awesome!
Some of the best days of my life bro👊
Stoked you were a big part of them!
Man I have been enjoying sifting through all your fishing vids over the last month, had guessed you were EX army but after seeing this makes sense. Really cool to see you close this out on appropriate terms. (Young Aussie native lived Motutere Point 1995-1999)
All of my air time was military fifty plus years ago but I can appreciate your last jump being a very special journey. Ya gotta love the fall with such a view.
COOL STUFF! Hopefully things will turn around there for your friends....
Thanks man but unfortunately they are done for good. 😠
That was freakin insane!! Super cool video and definitely a good message to go with it! Haha I was checking out my fishing videos on UA-cam couple of days ago and skipped right past this one, had some guy in a parachute? Didn't realize till today that it was your Channel lol! Very entertaining brother!
Thanks bro. Yeah not very fishy this vid but something I wanted to do👊
Hugely enjoy your fishing videos but a big thumbs up for doing this one!! Love that you did this out of respect for a company and people you loved working with. Well done!! And yes - covid sucks!
Thanks Steve, glad you liked it man. Big part of my life👊
Hard times for many mate. Hope you are keeping busy and have enough work.
Thanks man. Strange times alright
Awesome vid dude. Thanks for giving me the chance to have one last virtual jump at SDT. Can believe whilst I was at SDT I lost loved ones, Married loved ones and brought new loved ones into the world. SO many memories inside and out big love to you all.
Cheers bro, glad we got to spend some of the good years together there 🤙
Ive been following you for a while now Alex, learning a lot along the way, loving all your vids, keep it up bro! I did several AFF jumps years ago with Commando Skydiving in Victoria (absolutely loved it), I'm not surprised at all to learn you're an experienced jumper and Tandem Master , it explains a lot and makes perfect sense. All those skills and experiences learnt at the drop zone defiantly aid and help you as a fisherman and professional guide! it shines through in the way you go about your fishing.
Thanks for the kind words there bro. Appreciate that. I learnt with AFF in the states - best way to go for sure.
Something everyone should do once -
You learn a lot about yourself in the process.
that was great video bro and cool to see what you used to get up to. waiting for covid to finish so we can go fishing again!
Same bro. Gotta get you back here
This is so sad and a consequence of removing job support. I worry that this is the leak in the dam of employment losses. People come to NZ for great experiences. That is what NZ is at its core and its being lost now. How will it ever come back once gone? No one is immune to this kind of thing happening either.
Great treatment of a sad day mate. Well done. Best wishes from Brisbane
Thanks for the kind words there bro and I don’t know how it can come back once it’s gone for good. Sad indeed.
very nice :) great job :)
Thanks man🤙
I asked my instructor why my harness had to be so tight, he replied," It's the difference between feeling like you've been gelded if they're tight, and actually being gelded if they're loose!" Fair point thought I and tightened my straps.
Yeah you don’t need em that tight!
Sweet video bro, congratulations!!!!! A big 10 years!!!
Thanks man, cool vibes🤙
Awesome video man! Always wanted to skydive. Looks amazing
Do it once at least!
Awesome. I have a few jumps to my name too. That was back in the day though. Sorry to see this cool business closing doors.
Good on you man. It’s a cool thing to do aye.
Made my hands sweat just watching that! Fishing is good 🤣
All the way!
Very sad for their business, but a nice way to close a chapter in your life and on your terms👍🏻
Thanks bro, my thoughts exactly!
Hi Alex. As we say “Once a Para, always a Para!”. Jumping from a plane has always been the easy bit, it’s the landing thats the tricky part. Don’t believe me? Try a HALO with full kit! Just watch those show off quick turns close to the ground, killed my mate in Rotorua. Back to fishing, that can be done even by us old men. Harera
It’s only the last few feet that kills you aye!
Trippin On Trout, Gravity is a killer! Who knew? Harera...
Wow...no Cyprus fire or shattering of bolts......nice work 😃
I get it right sometimes brutha👊
Trippin On Trout it’s awesome dude, good to see you happy....although sometimes I miss my bro 😉
@@groovefunk69 Miss you too bro. I'll be back at some point to say hey..
Jumping out of airplanes...vs. crossing a raging river-both scary but I'll take the river! thanks for sharing!
Yeah I’m good with rivers these days too!
Wow what a job you used to have..a fantasy for many people to get paid to skydive. Its a whole new playground up there and if you understand you understand, which obviously you would. A feeling like nothing else 🤙🤙
A part of my life I look back on fondly bro👊
Is there anything that you can't do like a boss ... Haha seemed to competent given it's been 10 years
Oh there’s plenty I can’t do well😆😆
Mind the fence!
Tee hee...I stayed well clear 😆
The Aussie Nomad in its most commonly found position, growing mold in a paddock! Google Barry Dawson dropzone.com for a sobering tale. Good to see you enjoy the people and atmosphere in spite of the state of the industry.
That damn Nomad...
Okay, I was pretty sure already that you were a little nuts and now you have confirmed it. Who jumps out of a perfectly good airplane? Actually I almost did a tandem jump about 30 years ago until my wife pointed out to me that my life insurance wouldn't cover me face-planting in the ground. That woman's always looking out for my best interest. Please just stick with fishing bro. CHEERS
Actually a pretty safe thing to do! I’m good with fishing these days!!
To each their own, however, jumping out of a perfectly good airplane seems like insanity. I do understand that there is a terrific "rush" in doing that, but I will take a pass on it. Covid has closed a lot of businesses.
