Manfred by Rudolf Noureev (Mathias Heymann)

Directeur du Ballet de l’Opéra national de Paris de 1983 à 1989, Rudolf Noureev a marqué l’histoire de la danse par son style et ses chorégraphies. Les Étoiles et Premiers Danseurs du Ballet de l’Opéra lui rendent hommage en interprétant une série de solos et pas de deux extraits de ses plus grands ballets : La Belle au bois dormant, Roméo et Juliette, Casse-Noisette, Le Lac des cygnes, Cendrillon, Manfred et Don Quichotte.

In my experience, this is one of the greatest of the one-act narrative ballets, far too rarely performed. In this extract, I can just about see the 'shadow' of Rudolf's original performance as Manfred, but to really work it needs the original exotic, Byronic costumes by Nico Georgiadis and the supporting corps de ballet. Please revive the full, original production and bring it out on DVD so we can all enjoy it and marvel at Rudolf's interpretive genius.
