Certainly artists don't sell records as much but they make up for it in other ways like shows, endorsements, appearances, product placement, etc. We all know labels are the management now via "360 deals" & they can't easily be fired even when they have clout (see: Ke$-ha vs Dr Luke's label). So if you have a music artist signed to your entity who scores a national hit song, even if they're just a one hit wonder, I think that translates into much more money now than it did back when records were actually selling, provided the paperwork is tight.
