- Gymnasts have unique fueling needs. From long training days to busy competition days, properly fueling to meet short- and long-term energy needs requires planning. In this webinar for young gymnasts, Taylor Morrison, M.S., R.D.N., CSSD, L.D., offers practical tips for preparation and good daily habits that make fueling on the important days easier to navigate. As a certified sports dietitian, she has worked with young athletes throughout her career sharing her professional expertise and wisdom as a former figure skater.
After a presentation by Morrison, sports medicine physician Jane S. Chung, M.D., joined to answer questions from attendees. Participants submitted questions like these which were used to guide the presentation:
Are there foods or drinks that appear healthy but should actually be avoided?
What should gymnasts be eating after training?
Do you recommend any diets?
How should the girls be fueling / eating on meet days? How does that differ if meet is in the AM, afternoon or PM?
How much protein should my athlete eat in a meal? Or day?
